Our team produces articles, podcasts, video explainers, reports, analysis, and books about Ukraine in English and other languages.
We focus on explaining Ukraine and its culture, covering the most important developments in and around the country, as well as counteracting anti-Western propaganda and disinformation.
The UkraineWorld project emerged from a volunteer initiative helping international journalists during the Euromaidan Revolution of 2013-2014.
It's kind of interesting to see how softly Americans speak about Russians, clearly wanting to see them as human beings, turning a blind eye to the fact, no human or animal could kill children just for their own pleasure. And these are not some exceptional incidents, this is a common practice of these creatures. It is obvious and clear that such an understanding of the issue is not yet available among Americans. Just like it was with Nazi Germany in 1940
These people who allow this on their platform should be jailed. Governments need to put rules in place. This is not free speech but hate speech creating more division.

I do hope that the EU will listen to voices like yours, in order to legislate wisely and execute on the legislation instead of sticking our heads into the sand. "Kazarin moved from Crimea to Ukraine..." - really?! I somehow have thought that Crimea is Ukraine. An unfortunate mistake by Iryna. Especially given the current context... Otherwise, thank you for the episode and the podcast in general. It is helpful for raising awareness about Ukraine and our culture in particular.
Let's be honest here, the AFD is a "cypto" (i.e. hidden) nazi party. For ten years the anti-Ukrainian online media and also most mass media called the Azov heroes "nazis" (why not just call them far-right or nationalist)? But when it came to AFD or even Lepen's National rally, they call them "far-right" or just "nationalist". Well, it turned out after Feb 2022 that the Azov "nazi"s never committed any atrocities, their hands are clean, BUT.... but the Wagner nazi's committed many war crimes. The largest article, by far, on neo-Fascism, in Encyclopaedia Britannica is the ruzzian article, no mention of Ukraine, This is why the AFD and Lepen are pro-Russia, the chickens always come home to roost!
Thank you so much for this episode, it brought me back to a seminar at the London Book Fair in April 2023, where I had the pleasure of meeting Ms Baturevych after a panel discussion that included Victoria Amelina and Oleksander Mykhed. Later that week I was lucky to meet Victoria at a separate event, and I listened to that part of your podcast through tears - I have a vivid memory of her telling me that after finding Volodymyr Vakulenko's diary, she had taken all the necessary precautions to make sure her book would survive, if she did not. I'm so grateful to her family and colleagues for the immensely painful labour it must have taken to bring the uncompleted manuscript to publication. I will buy it as soon as I can... but it will never have her autograph. I do however have Mr Mykhed's autograph on my copy of The Language of War, which I'm reading at the moment after attending the London launch. It is indeed an amazing book, and I urge everyone to read it. I feel immensely lucky to have made these connections, to be reading these books, and to have the opportunity to learn about and support Ukraine, while Ukraine is keeping all of us safe - whether we understand it or not. I stopped listening when the man says that Russia is the most fascistic state since WWII? What about Chile and many other extreme right wing regimes. And Russia is fascist but Ukraine isnt? Dont make me laugh!
What he's really describing is POPULISM - both Left and Right it's a strategy for political fraud - a scam to win followers (votes) seducing them with demagogic discourse and emotional manipulation just to get into Power and carry out their own agenda. Both Left and Right Populism use the same basic recipe of selling the image of a hero coming to the People's rescue and that THEY HAVE THE SOLUTION - and they want you to know who is the enemy reasonable for the People's suffering. Any appearance of political ideology is mostly superficial. .. both L/R create cults of personality around their leader considered infallible and will resort to violence to defend their hero's honor - and it it usually is headed by authoritarian leaders who really want ALL THE POWER. The only real difference between between an fascist dictatorship and a State Socialist dictatorship is the former is centered on private Capitalism and the latter has Capitalism of the State...

Slight self-correction: Narva is not larger than Sevastopol, but has a larger percentage of ethnic Russians and Russian-speakers in its population than Sevastopol. Canada is still with you Ukraine. It's a national embarrassment that Can govt has kicked out the Russian embassies from our country. They are Russian spies, that puts Canadians directly in danger. As well as the large Ukranians population we have here. Slava Ukraine

Zero appetite of the West agree 💯. Nice exchange of thoughts. Again this is a pearl! To my opinion this nerve wracking waiting for action from the West is indeed all based on interdependency and what is at stake concerning all kinds of interests, based on inmensely complex human build social, political and economic systems or structures and also their past. If some ‘puppet’ like “huhummm” will get a chance to get power over a country and the power will be supported or acknowledged somehow by the ‘people’ around this (self) created leader (entourage) and ‘other countries’, it will be because there is something to gain or there is a lot to gain. The leader and entourage will do everything to gain more power as time goes by. How can those kind of ‘people’ do that? By making others dependent or making them think that they are dependent even by force! During this time we all had ‘cheap’ gas and oil and other stuff from Russia and vice versa. We all lived our luxury lives till war broke out. The same goes for the ‘puppet’s’ entourage, they support the puppet for as long the puppet provides in their luxury and their sick hunger for power over others. Propaganda, lies, keeping up appearences with the so called stakeholders, spreading hatred and above all fear are key elements for those huhummm ‘people’. If one can find ways to break this circle, a circle which most of the time turns out into a cycle of ‘darkness’ for ordinary people who live in those kind of societies without direct links to the so called leader or self proclaimed leader, then the created system of power, hatred, fear, lies and extreme suppression, which only serves the ‘upper class’ of this kind of society, will hopefully collapse after some successful interventions and only if the stakeholders agree : those are the other countries (The West) who also benefited from this system . It still goes on and the world is really sick. What about weapon industry? Pfffffffffff. So it is good that Nordstream has been blown up, it is good that military airfields, some industrial targets and gas and oil stations are being constantly targeted by Ukraine and that they now create chaos in this evil ‘main system of Darkness’ called Kremlin. It will be even better if Ukraine gets the green light to use long distance missiles to help this center of evil crumble down ‘a bit faster’. I already have seen happy people in Russia with Ukrainian soldiers. That is a very good sign, but their lives are at stake, not ours. 🫶🏻🇺🇦😉That’s my humble opinion.
What if it's not possible to get a united strategy from Ukraine's partners? Is it impossible for Ukraine to win if support continues in the same drip and half hearted way it's been to date? I see absolutely no reason to believe Ukraine's allies are going to become more stalwart and supportive. If anything, there are a lot of reasons to think support from the West will decrease over time. Most of the East stuff has already been done, and very little action has been taken to ramp up armaments production.

Пан Плохій, як і вся наша академічна історіографія, в теорії винекня середньовічної держави Русь, стоїть на одних позиціях з Путіним. Конформізм нашої історичної наукової спільноти, що до Норманської теорії, леґітимізує право Залісся на теріторію України в очах Світової спільноти. Дехотомія пана професора виглядає дивною: з одного боку -- пгодження з ,,хатєлкамі'' Путіна, а з іншого -- бажання незалежності і суб'єктності своєї малої Батьківщини.
