All good things come to an end a made even more so being made on your bikes. I was envious of you all but the videos made up for that. Many thanks Rob for your efforts in recording your trip along with all the editing involved. Much appreciated. NJ 😊👍🏍
Thank you for this series of videos, Rob. It's always sobering to visit war graves, no matter whose they are; war is the complete negation of rational behaviour. My uncle was Royal Artillery, my mate's dad was Afrika Korps and they spent their time chasing each other backwards and forwards across North Africa and up through Italy. Fortunately, both survived the war. So many of their mates didn't.
Thanks Rob and the rest of your Chapter ! Enjoyed the scenery, etc, also a sobering reminder of what should never be forgotten. Some atmospheric footage there. Makes you appreciate your lot much more. Keep up the vids please.
Another enjoyable video. How right you are about quiet reflection at the Cemetries, shame about those in the background at the German site who didn't appear to understand. We witnessed a similar situation at Oradeur Sur Glane, and the noise was coming from occupants of a German coach, so dissapointing. A pity you were not able to incorporate the Merville Battery in your trip. Can I end by thanking you for the time & effort you put into this trip, not least to avoid becoming Large Bo Peep !! you kept your sheep with you. P.S. If you do go to the Alps, the Grossglochner is a must, so I am told.
Yes Graham the highest pass would be on my list!! Mostly we found people were being respectful - in fact almost everywhere while not doleful. And yes it was a bit of a game keeping everyone together and I mostly succeeded!! Hope to meet up soon.
01:46 My father took me to the English war cemetery and read through the names, birthdays and death dates. Then he said to me, look, there are a lot of boys there who are only 5 years older than you are now. I told him that they were the dead of the enemy at the time. He replied, "Do you think their mothers cried less for their boys than your mother would cry for you?" Since then I have visited war graves myself and thought about the great suffering that lies behind every name. Let us honor our soldiers, no matter which side they fought on. We Europeans all belong together now.
Bernhard - we may have come to terms with the sadness of war for every side but still the lesson has not been learned. You will notice we also visited La Camb and were very moved by the experience e. Thanks for watching my friend 😊
Great video Rob, we have a lot to be thankful for to all those people in the graves that your group visited, thank you once again for a very sobering reminder of bad days gone by not so long ago. All the Best.
I like the name Whizzers. In my town there's a men's hockey team called the Panters. You have to be over 80 to be on the team. They're not the Panthers, but the Panters. It would be like you calling your gang the Wheezers!
As youngsters, a Raleigh Runabout was bottom of the cool pile. Below the Puch Maxi, Honda PC50, and way below Italian, Japanese and Dutch super-mopeds some lads owned. Even the Norman Nippy and NSU Quickly probably scored more chip shop points, if such a thing can be imagined. Cyclemotors were before my time, the first time I saw one was at Battersea Park meet up, c1982. The nearest thing still on the roads was the Honda P50, with the engine in the back wheel. In 2024, I'd really like a Runabout!
Found this and subscribed after searching NW500 that we are riding in September. Loved this episode as Derbyshire is my Mano :-) For anyone who wants to visit the Matlock biker location, the bikes gather in Matlock Bath. Great video.
Glad you enjoyed bit you must watch my progress - and the series on my ride around Ireland is even better!! Good luck with your ride in September and please subscribe to see more similar videos.
Well we went to Utah Beach, Pointe du Hoc, the US cemetery as well as St Lo? But the other reason we went there was…just for the ride! We are motor cyclists after all!!
My brother and my nephew use those helmet intercoms, being half deaf i never bother, they also use high tech navigation stuff, me i stick to a map and route notes Tech does not work for me 😂 Smaller motorcycles work so much better on those roads
@@RobLittleuk I have used it on the phone to find a location, but I am a technical nightmare 😁 I did once use the bikes tracker to find out where I was, which oddly was miles off course as usual Do you ever swap bikes on your trips, and talk about the differences and advantages etc ? ,as you and your friends have a wide range of interesting machines ? Perhaps another video on road tests ?
@@RobLittleuk it is well worth the trip, I pinged your Facebook page, I can send you some info, it really is amazing, plus lots of other history there, plus we know a great bed and breakfast
It’s my bike - bought it after a 10 year layoff & gone from a 120hp Aprilia V Twin down to a sedate 22hp RE. Loving the complete contrast in riding styles & enjoying taking the time to look at the scenery.
I have a Classic 350. Similar exhaust note but without the vibes and rattles, cracking bikes. Its surprising how many people are downsizing from larger machines to the Enfield 350s and find these satisfy their motorcycle needs and cheaper than some 125s. Some bargains to be had currently both new and used. What's not to like.🤔🙂
Hi ! Basically he was saying that whoever held Hill 112, could control Caen - in the battle for Caen, between the "Allies" and the Germans we wrecked the place! Germans held Hill 112 and there was a battle to control it which the Allies eventually won - eventually Caen fell to the Allies. My friend is a historian and he could tell you more if I ask him but I got the following text from the memorial web site you may like to look at? "In 1944, men from the 43rd Wessex, 53rd Welsh, 15th Scottish and 11th Armoured Divisions finally took control of one of the most strategically important battlegrounds in northern France. It took ten weeks of fierce fighting and cost the lives of 10,000 men, but taking and holding Hill 112 allowed the Allies to retake Caen and continue the liberation of Europe. The Hill 112 Memorial Foundation has been set up to continue the work of Sgt Albert Figg, who worked tirelessly to turn the site, known in 1944 as ‘Death Valley’, into what is now known as Normandy’s ‘Hill of Peace’."
I've had twins, fours, and sixes, but my favourite was a single. Something about the sound and the sound of the mechanicals. I'm not sure what it is, but they stir me.
Another enjoyable one Rob, I've got to look forward to these little visits to places I remember. However, Hill 112 I did not get to. Glad all the bikes are doing well and the weather has been kinder these past few days. The meals you had looked just up my street, better than the rubbish they served up for me in Caen. All the best NJ😊👍🏍
Hello Rob we just wanted to say that you filmed this very sympathetically and the music was just right, it really brought home the message. It was also nice to see your companions engaging in the video. Tricia & Paul
I was very careful to try to be as sensitive as possible while in my amateur way, illustrate the simple grandeur of the place if those two words are not "opposites" if you know what i mean!
That's a very nice T.9 Spitfire. Cost to ride is GBP 2,975 for 30 minutes, GBP 4,475 for 45 minutes, GBP 6,475 for 65 minutes... We used to charge $4,000 AUD - approx, 2,000 GBP - for a full hour's flight in our Hawker Hunter. The total experience for the passenger was around three hours with a full introduction and walk-around, kitting out and a comprhensive safety briefing including use of the ejector seat. Fuel useage on our Hunter was 26 Litres/minute at tickover and 55 Lt/min at normal operating speed, which was around 600 knots/700 mph.
Hi Rob, thanks for making the video. Colleville-sur-mer had me moved to tears when i saw it on your video. Such a sad scene and such a waste of human life. "All together now" seems an appropriate piece of music for this reminding us of what our forefathers fought for. Hope you had a good trip and safe riding. 🙂
It was a brilliant trip and yes the American Cemetery, which I have visited many times, always brings a tear to my eye not least the last time I was there on a drizzly day and this American choir struck up - see: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p7cswfykeAo.htmlsi=4V-a1swNRA_5Ldl3
DUHHH. The video had nothing to do with the dog which belonged to the pilot. It had to do with a friend who went up in the plane..... Are you interested in dogs?
Personally, i found the best way to drive it on the bat save mode using regen braking on b5. My driving style is normal with casual overtaking on sport mode, environment- suburban stretches with some drving around villages. 2.4 2019
