From the very beginning, Leerburg has built a reputation by providing quality products and the best training information available. Our customers are dog trainers that insist on quality products that work and last. We have built our business based on a policy of only selling quality products that we use with our own dogs. Rather than trying to compete with the big box retail stores or the pet food warehouses of the world, we chose to fill that niche. The training material that we put out in our DVDs, streaming videos, and online courses has been developed by some of the best trainers in the world, and is based on countless years of experience.

I was in this situation 3yrs ago, we took on a 2yr old gsd bitch, we already had an 7yr old gsd bitch. They quickly took a dislike to each other and had some awful fights. The young bitch had never had any training or even excercise prior to living with me and was dog reactive so i quickly found a good trainer and put in the work which helped a lot. I had to have strict management around them and did use muzzles if they were walked together. I never left them alone together even for short durations and still dont. They now tolerate each other really well and are neutral but its taken micro management for 3 yrs which isn't for everyone. Im lucky we're on a smallholding so we have plenty of room and I'm home all day. I agree with all the advice in this video but it can be done in certain situation if you can step up and do the work... good luck

Ive been using the baskerville ultra for the past 3 months and it does not seem to be comfortable for my dog, so i am switching to the polymer coated wire muzzle. It looks like it will probably be more comfortable. We will see when it gets here!

I don't want to medicate my Cane Corso girl unless necessary on vehicle rides as she has severe PTSD/Panic attacks in the SUV. She thinks that every car rides ends at Vet office with her having another surgery. 3 surgeries within 2 years ruined her. My boy is no issue he lies across back seat, I have on specific harness attached to dog seat belt. He doesn't move he loves it, likes it more when I take him into stores with me.

My gsd is pretty quiet except she still does a very high pitched puppy yelp. She does it specifically because she knows it's what gets my attention. She rarely does a "big girl bark" for any reason. But my girl also 100% gets carsick. She's much better now that she's a little older and her inner ear is more well developed and her balance has improved. She needs to be able to look out a window or get fresh air if at all possible. She will throw up in the car otherwise 😢. I've been told dogs grow out of car sickness, but maybe some don't.

Don't like a GSD whining? Get a Malinois. It's what they do. I don't make a big deal out of it because if you do, you're only going to make it worse.
@overhead18

I get it, that high pitched noise GSD's can make when they are excited can be very annoying. Sounds like the have a whistle jammed in their nose! I am lucky, both of mine responded to verbal corrections to "hush" which was something they were familiar with from training at home. That being said, it is not 100%, when we get on the gravel road that leads to the rural property we visit once a month the whistling starts, it is a short road I just tolerate it. They are just excited to be there, not something I feel I need to correct.

I ordered my DDC for my Newfies, the noise of the prong stresses them out and I’m walking 300lbs of dog therefor I can’t have them running at every dog they see. Hoping these are less stressful for them than the prong

The only way this will work is if you introduce dogs that are this size to t he DDC one at a time. Once they all know it then try two at a time. Read what I wrote above.

That's great, I'll try it. My Corso is not dominant and walks pretty well. But she sticks with me purely as a courtesy. We both know she can take off whenever she feels like it.Her recall's solid but I would like not to simply depend on her goodwill. She works on a flat collar as it has made little difference with chains and such. We'll try the D-collar!
@efrawley55
@efrawley55 8 дней назад
The thing is you have to be stronger than the dog here. If your a small women trying to control a large Corso. - you may not have enough strength. This is not a magic training tool. When working with dogs that want to over power the handler - the advice is to pick your fights and donty pick a fight yopu canb loose.

This guy is literally just improvising this video. How are you going to loop and tie the leash to a tree while it's connected to the dog? And moving in a circle while holding it's back legs will not stop them from being able to reach you. Even in the demo they provided the dog reaches the mans hands.

Great video and advise. This is a trend these days, my vet in Canada asked me to neuter my Xl size male dog when he was 6 months old and tried to scare me by saying that he will be humping and marking in the house, showing aggression and get attacked by other dogs in dog park, not able to go to dog daycare etc. All of above can be fixed by training, no need to alter your dog for dog parks and daycares, both places are not good for dogs anyways. I am from India and neutering a dog was unheard of back home. This is a trend in Western countries and somehow people here think they can work around nature and now they are doing the same with kids under the name of gender affirmation therapy and 9 hours of daycare a day for children under the age of 5 God bless this generation.

Of course there is less chance of testicular cancer when there are no testicles left! I really struggled with deciding to neuter my puppy for this condition of a retained testicle. I do regret neutering him. The surgery was difficult. His hormone balance is destroyed now and he gains weight at an alarming pace. He even pees like a female now. We are now fighting obesity on very little food. I advise to NOT neuter your normal male dogs. I never neutered my males in the past. They lived a long and healthy life. *BUT all were kept responsibly in fenced yards and never sired any litters.* Responsible dog owners should think long and hard before routine neutering of normal pet males. Working dogs are a different story. But yes, cryptorchidism is a different matter all together. I will never know if I made the right decision. It's a tough call to make. Breeders need to be more conscientious about breeding this defect out of their bloodlines.
@efrawley55
@efrawley55 20 дней назад
I believe I said in my video to just remove the testicle that has not come down - for the. vbery reason that you bring up. The dog needs the hormones to develop and mature. When I bred dogs, if I produced a pup whose testickle diudbnt come down I always recommended waiting until the dog was @ 2 years old before the surgery - for exactly what your saying. If I missed saying this - my bad.

I wish I'd had more information before I neutered my boy. If I'd known that I SHOULD leave him intact until at least 2, I would have. I wish my vet would have told me about him needing them for testosterone to grow and mature. But he didn't. 😢. I had him fixed at 8 months old. The only reason I took him in then was because he was attempting to make babies with his sister. I just assumed if he was old enough to recognize she was in heat, then he was old enough to get fixed. Does anyone know if there is a way to give him testosterone until he is matured?? I'm just sick that I screwed my dog up! 😭😭😭

My Shepherd had an undescended testicle. The smart people on the internet (not vets) said that you shouldn't neuter until 1 and a half years so I waited until 2 years and had him neutered ONLY because the vet said he would have a higher chance of testicle cancer. I asked him (a REALLY good vet), " Really? Is this something that you have actually seen?" He said that, yes he had seen it happen more often with an undescended testicle. Therefore, I did the surgery. The dog's personality and high energy level did not change ONE BIT. He still pees like a boy and his weight has remained the same. I just wanted to share my experience in case it is useful info for anyone.

I have a Heeler/German Shorthair mix that used to attack me like that. It always happened at the end of a walk and I wondered if he knew this and was trying to prolong our time together. He is now 8 months old and he seems to have out grown this -- or maybe my training is working! It was great to watch this video and find that this behavior is part of the breed. Absolutely love my little dog! He is very smart, loyal, affectionate and ready always to go anywhere. We have travelled long distance with him a few times and I've found all the bonding time together and getting used to so many new things has really helped him be less intense.

Robert hynes dog training on YT is going after all the big dog training channels calling them out for modern day dog training being a scam. He is claiming that behaviours cant be changed and that positive only only just recruits customers for balanced trainers. He also claimes balanced training is just shutzhund and tool focused and its a cult that has now taken over dog training. He is totally against prongs and ecollars. He does make some valid points and nobody will engage with him for a debate. Id love you guys to check this situation out and point out and maybe give an honest opinion on some of these topics. His main point is nobody cares why a dog acts the way it does and they just shut them down with tools.

I would love to see Mr Hynes and Haz from shield K9 have a conversation about these. I tried positive only with treats, sausages, and ignoring the bad/unwanted behaviour and and it was awful, I'm not a dog trainer but after looking at some of Shield K9 videos to fix the same issues I tried to address with "positive only" training. Today, I am able to walk my German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois off leash with stray dogs barking at them.

This is disgraceful. I'm a dog trainer myself and I always work with the clients, have insurance and offer a full money back guarantee. I always say if your trainer doesn't do these things avoid them at all costs. So many people who board and train are an absolute nightmare and I've heard some horrific stories from my clients; from dogs ending up with reactivity and fear who were absolutely fine before to dogs getting hit with chains. I have positive only trainers berate me online just for using a choker chain and I laugh and tell them what for because all my training is done with the owner right there watching and most of it in a public place because I don't hide what I do and am not ashamed of what I do. All the dogs I work with are calmer, happy and more confident after I have worked with them. Way to many bad trainers out there taking people's money and getting them no results. It's really sad for the dogs because often when they've gone through a couple of trainers they believe there is no hope, give the dog up and often the dog is put down. Shame on them. You would think that dog trainers get into this business to help dogs but most of them are having completely the opposite effect. If you're not competent as a dog trainer then at the very least understand your limitations and stick to what you are good at and stop destroying the lives of these beautiful animals.
