thank you. I accidentally clicked it before fastening it to the unit, and I thought it's forever.

i bought a historic mansion fixer upper. it has a beautiful staircase & woodpaneled foyer. the steps are in bad shape. they were filled with staples & still have regular large headed nails in them. many, many of them. they also have 1/2" gaps where the risers & treads meet on some of them. i need ideas of how to fill them in. strips of wood? i don't have the tools to cut them precisely. i need to figure out what to do with the nails. cut the heads off & fill in the holes? if anyone can offer some suggestions, i'd be much obliged. i am a 70 year old on a pension. my plans to gradually rehab it were killed with covid, the most recent recession & a heart attack. i will get it done, but it's going to take more years than i wanted. thanks for any help.

Thanks but isn’t it misleading to say “whilst pushing the drawer forward” - seeing another video it shows pushing the runner underneath forward. Guess I’ll find out as now to give it a try!

Or just measure the distance under the bull nose and transfer that number and make lines on tread that distance and no cardboard needed
@DominicParkinson
@DominicParkinson 9 месяцев назад
Yes, though that assumes a standard dimension for your tread noses. Often they vary, and if bullnose than not it's easy to measure precisely.

Call that creaky? Mine is over 85 years old and every step creaks in the gap at the bottom of the riser, not under the tread, so you only did half a job. I can see what's going to happen, muggins will have to do the Hary Potter impression and go under the stairs. Also do my impression of Bilbo Baggins being attacked by a giant spider...

Just paint them on the top and below : ))
@ianlogan9415
@ianlogan9415 11 месяцев назад
Only a partial solution in a minority of cases. Stairs more commonly creak because the tread and riser loosen at the back. If you can't get under the stairs, pocket holes drilled and screws used from the front will help.

What if you need to replace a broken step(tread)? My steps are exactly like these. The edge tread is inside the string.

You ABSOLUTE life saver you - FANTASTIC! Drawers have been in my kitchen for 23 years - and today I decided to take them out and give them a GOOD clean… done in seconds (with the help of my iPhone camera - drawers are very low) after fiddling about completely stumped for an hour or so! Thanks so so much

How do we know there's not any pipes or wires underneath where were drilling?
@DominicParkinson
@DominicParkinson Год назад
There are not normally pipes and wires within treads and risers, but if in doubt don't do this job.

Do you have to use candle wax?
@DominicParkinson
@DominicParkinson Год назад
Candle wax is a great lubricant for e.g. wood vs. wood, or door latch mechanisms that are starting to stick.

I Googled this video after a frustrating hour with a Rationell drawer. I was so relieved to it that, in self-righteous indignation, I looked further down the Google search to reassure myself that those incompetents/sadists/whatevers at IKEA hadn't put it on their website. But they have. It's all there in black and white. It just isn't the first Google result.... Oooops (x276?)
@stevecrouch837

how do you find the supports to screw to them?
@DominicParkinson
@DominicParkinson Год назад
If no access to underside then you can only assume the geometry of treads and risers, not of any possible extra support dtructures.

Yep. Look carefully and you'll see a small white slot housing a plastic insert with a 'barb' slightly extended out at one end, which turns out to be a a protrusion from a much larger body of white plastic. I pushed hard into that slot against the barb with the handle of a teaspoon, and was able to simply pop up one corner of the drawer. Do the other side, the whole drawer lifts out. (Problem of a loose carcass mounting easily fixed thereafter). Don't give up, it's simpler than you think. Thanks so much for posting this.
