Tools: flat screwdriver, torch/flashlight. Pull drawer fully out. Locate white plastic catch and push it up while gently pulling drawer out. Retract drawer runner by an inch when released.
All these years later this video is stopping people destroying their kitchens in fits of rage. You're a legend! Thank you. This allowed us to retrieve a long lost set of chopsticks which had fallen down the back.
Time spent trying to figure it out on my own, trying to find the old manual, trying find a manual online: 1 hour. Time spent watching this video: 1:03 minute. Time spent actually removing the drawing, having watched this video: 15 seconds. Thanks Dominic! :)
Thank you so much for this video! I tried for three hours to pull out the shelves in an old Ikea cabinet. Watched a lot of videos. And only your video helped! Never in my life could I have found that button! I was in despair! Thank you very much!
Thank you! After two hours of challenge I found this video - and disassembled & reassembled the drawer 10 cm higher in the bigger old IKEA chest. Very helpful - just at the start with that white plastic sort of hidden button. It worked! LOL - IT IS FUN to find my own comment that is 7 years old. Finally the last four go to the garbage from the back of our storage room... And again the same challenge of dismantling! Thank you again!
Dude!........ I've been struggling to get my drawers out ever since my induction hob stopped working a few days ago. Now I've managed to remove the drawers to get to the underside of the hob, put it back together and it's now working. Thanks ever so much.
You ABSOLUTE life saver you - FANTASTIC! Drawers have been in my kitchen for 23 years - and today I decided to take them out and give them a GOOD clean… done in seconds (with the help of my iPhone camera - drawers are very low) after fiddling about completely stumped for an hour or so! Thanks so so much
I entered the search for how to remove an Ikea drawer with more hope than expectation. I am very pleased and grateful you recorded this! It worked a treat.
Thanks Dominic, your hint was a great help; the white plastic catch looked a bit wider than the one in the video, but it worked a charm. Much better than brute force and ignorance!
Lifesaver! I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to do this, I'd even read about the plastic catch but couldn't find the *!~%##!* thing. Thank you very much for making a quick and simple video to show us what should have been in the instructions in the first place!
Dear Dominic, you've just made my day. Thx for the video and the torch tip. An extra tip: for the lowest drawer, use your i-phone in selfie-mode + torch to help you find the pastic catch.
You sir are a legend! My wife just asked me to move the drawer by one hole down and after lot of swearing and trying to remove it you video is all I needed. Thanks!
Thank you so much. I had been trying to fix a loose bracket after trying to remove drawer. With your help I removed drawer and made a permanent repair. It was a little tricky to push the tabs and used a screwdriver to push it completely. Bless you for taking the time to make this video..
I would never have figured this out and there is no information in the instructions I got from IKEA. Your advice worked really well and I removed the drawer and re-fitted it in seconds.
Many thanks for the video. I've just spent a couple of hours lying on the kitchen floor getting very frustrated, trying to work out how to remove a Rationell draw. The assembly instructions I managed to find, being a hoarder of useless information, were no help. Luckily I had to go out to the shops before I become so annoyed that I broke something. When I returned I thought I 'll Google "How do you remove a Rationall draw" and bingo up came your video.
thanks so much for this info...Ive waited now for 4 weeks to install a washing machine . two different attempts by installers to remove drawer for access. they left unable to fit machine.....i then saw your video and removed it myself .... i now wait another week for them to return...... but fantastic that i saw your video...brilliant!
Brilliant thank you for this hint ,I assembled the drawers 3/4 years ago and hadn’t a clue how to remove (obstruction at the back ) and put the drawer back in ,well done Dominic !!
Think you very, very, much. I have tried and tried searshing for a small white button that I was told should be there. Of course I couldn’t find a BUTTON. After looking at your informative video I found the right white ”thing” immedeately. 😃👍
Hi João, I'm glad the video was useful, thanks for comment! Removing a drawer is a basic function of a kitchen system (e.g. for adjusting alignment of a drawer that is up against a side wall) so there must be a more user-friendly way of doing this! :)
Thanks Dom for posting this video. You saved me a lot of time and distress. I tried to find something on the IKEA website showing how to get the draws out. There was nothing. Thanks again for your short and precise video.
Thanks, its so daft that Ikea don't show this in their instructions! You´ve saved us hours and not to mention the risk of breaking the drawer. Straight forward solution, don't think there's a better way.
Hi Lucy, glad it was useful, though I'm sure that lurking out there somewhere is a simpler official solution. Most people who fit these drawers will need to remove them at some point for a variety of reasons, and Ikea are a pretty smart organisation!
thank you Dominic I had a trades person here, who thought i was a lunatic when I suggested we look for a video. He (and I) were impressed. Thanks again
Thank you for explaining this. I do now recall how to do it, but had utterly forgotten. I was looking to the grey attachments at the end, to no avail. Quick prod and off. Fantastic. Thanks again.
You absolute hero! Moved into a house full of Ikea flat pack and have been trying to figure this out for ages!!! Was starting to think the only option to remove drawers was to smash them out! Thankyou so much!
Thanks! This was great my Dad was super confused as to how to get it apart, this video was a godsend! Hopefully installing it and popping it back on will be easy too
Thank God for you pal I've been tearing my hair out trying to find out how to get these drawers out watched your video did it straight away cheers mate your a star
Thanks Dom, we've struggled for weeks, finally asked Ikea staff today and they just said pull all the way out and lift.....well theirs in store do work like that but our 2013 units don't.....so thanks again for explaining !!
I just assembled one of these faktum draw units put all the drawers in and found that I put the cabinet feet in the wrong place. I have been struggling to get the drawers back out so I can flip the cabinet over and move the feet... so a HUGE THANK YOU for posting this video!
Thank you so much for this little tutorial which brought me so great help. I nearly was so frustrated that I thought of garbaging it and buying something new.
You should get an IKEA PRIZE for this kitchen saving video. There are hundreds out there impossible to understand or that will ruin the kitchen. Congrats & a huge thanks
Yep. Look carefully and you'll see a small white slot housing a plastic insert with a 'barb' slightly extended out at one end, which turns out to be a a protrusion from a much larger body of white plastic. I pushed hard into that slot against the barb with the handle of a teaspoon, and was able to simply pop up one corner of the drawer. Do the other side, the whole drawer lifts out. (Problem of a loose carcass mounting easily fixed thereafter). Don't give up, it's simpler than you think. Thanks so much for posting this.
Very glad to hear that the video was useful. Now that it has had 100k+ views, a good time to thank all who viewed, which is about 99k more than I expected when I posted a very casual shaky tutorial! :)
Phew - thanks! Additional tips - A dental mirror is useful for locating the thing on drawers close to the floor, and I found practising on a higher drawer first made it easier.
Sir I can't thank you enough, we have a leak under the boiler and whilst waiting for British gas 4weeks we can now fit a larger container to catch the drips thank you again ps they're coming in 4 days to stop the leak .
thank you! Ive tried soooo many things, and like others said, considered demolishing the whole thing. Glad I didnt have to scrool through an manual too
Dominic. You absolute hero. We had our kitchen installed in May 2012 + for a long time we have had a loose tap on the sink above which we haven't been able to get proper access to tighten from below. I had tried everything short of setting light to the damned thing to get it out so your video has removed a significant irritant from my life. Many many thanks :o)
Thank God you had the sense to share this info. I have been at it for over an hour!! My Mrs said, "look on You Tube". I think I'll lie and say that I just worked it out. Thanks man, life saver.... 8o)
