So sorry I missed this! Big fan of both bands! Opeth is overall my top favourite of the two. But... 3,6, 4,2,5,1. (I mean c'mon... Opeth represented by a cover - though performed nicely, and a track from my least favourite album - though a great choice from it. Lines in My Hand is immaculate though)
Sorry brother, I know you trying to appeal to a broader audience but that to me was 50 plus minutes of trying to feel anything out that. Growling, hodgepodge playing seems you should be high not to question the lack of any quality organization.
@@captainmorgan1978 I read it multiple times and what I got is "You missed the point of trying to appeal to a broader audience by not putting on there some Nightwish. Instead you have chosen bands with growls that ones need to be high to enjoy. Thus, since I was not high, I didn't enjoyed this set. Which is proof that you failed to appeal to a broader audience. In order to reach 1 million subscribers you need to get you sh*it together and stop with these growl songs. Also 50 min is too long. You would be better organised if you made 10 min long videos instead. Other YT reactors out there have a better formula. I highly recommend the band Nigthwish"

Lana Del Rey does not just take other people's songs... She used one lyric from one song for a homage. She writes and produces all her own music. You were thinking of the one line Lucy in the sky with diamonds but she uses her boyfriends name at the time in place of Lucy and that's it
"Estonia" was written by Steve Hogarth after a chance meeting, in an airplane trip, IIRC, where he had a conversation with a British fellow passenger about the sinking of the car ferry Estonia in the Baltic Sea, which the British guy had survived while something like 827 other passengers died, mainly from hypothermia. It was the second most deadly peacetime shipping disaster, after the Titanic, in the Atlantic Ocean basin. Hogarth references the sinking ("and the saltwater runs..."), but the song after that are his musings about death, spirits/souls, and the evolution of grief in the hearts ot friends and family members who lost a loved one in the sinking. It's not really a religious song, because it imagines an afterlife far different than the one we get preached about on Sundays. The spirits of the dead don't go anywhere except to "the other side", and the remain aware of what is going on here after their passing to that "other side". They inform us that they "don't understand our grief", because they are living a new life, happy, and in no pain, nearby to those of us who loved them when they lived and loved us while still on this side of the divide. It is the song many Marillion fans have instructed their families to have played at their funerals.
Rush wins simply because those are 3 all time great legendary tunes. Liked the last Leprous song more than the other 2. Another great band but not yet legendary
To me it is not a surprise that it takes time for great Leprous, Opeth, SX, etc songs to get through. Especially when the bands have so many great songs. And then you have all these other great bands that are yet to be discovered on the channel. Understandably you do not go over 3 set per week max.
I've been wanting to put Third Law on the channel for a while. I'm glad Kelly did bc before Fate that was my first suggestion to Adrian. The congregation is one of my favorite Leprous albums.
The Congregation is also my favorite. I remember the day that I discovered Leprous through the song The Price. I had heard of Leprous for a while because I was into Ihsahn and saw that he had a son in law with a band named Leprous. The Price blew my mind. It sounded so fresh, different and the music was just talking to my soul. I prefer when their music was the central point. The last 2-3 singles from the upcoming album didn't do much for me. Still great songs, but the focus is now heavy on Einar and he signs from start to begining of the songs. The music is a bit more in support of him. Features that get to much closer to commercial/pop for my tastes.

We really should get you to listen to some of Pain of Salvation songs from the Road Salt albums era. It's not most hardcore prog fans favorite, because it is barely prog in a sense - songs are short, no crazy transitions, no long guitar solos. A very laid back, early rock and blues feel. Less theatrics, no actual full-album story concept (gasp!). Still great music and raw energy (or quiet despair).
We had "No Way" and "Sisters" from Road Salt 1, "To the Shoreline" (submitted by me) from Road Salt 2 (also "Gone", B-side from the Linoleum single). Very special albums indeed, more down-to-earth but still very emotionally powerful, I like them both.
All of the "In the passing light of day" album deals with Daniel's near death experience when he was hospitalized with flesh eating bacteria in his back - a sudden infection from a small wound quickly became life threatening - to the point of the doctors giving him a 50/50 chance of surviving each day for weeks, with multiple surgeries excising infected tissues, then months more in recovery. This song is the Angry stage, where he can't stand the platitudes his visitors tell him (the "living" to the "not dead") while he is lying in bed near death even though he is just 40 years old and has no business being there. He is also angry at God, while simultaneously asking for His intervention to "lick him clean" in a weirdly sexual way. On interviews Daniel said that taking a shower was extremely painful and he dreaded it, though obviously necessary. So that's probably why he is using the trope of "crying in the shower" and playing with it lyrically. Personally, I think this whole album is the best of their catalogue. Not as experimental, nor as complex musically - just raw, emotional, and extremely honest journey of a man facing his mortality and potentially imminent death. Probably one of the best lyrics of any album ever; part poetry, part story telling, always genuine.
Oh wow. As the person who submitted ICON, I *never* noticed the similarities between it and Tongue of God until you pointed them out. But you're right, there are some notable parallels going on. And the link/callback makes complete sense, since they're both coming from a downtrodden, introspective, hopeless perspective, without sounding the exact same. This just made me appreciate both of them more lmao.
45:50 It's good; it's my least favorite from the record minus the filler track, but the opening riff is one of my all-time favorite Opeth riffs, and I still come back to this song from time to time. I think it meanders a bit too much, becomes directionless in the second half, and attempts to offset it by cramming in a bunch of unrelated parts, and suddenly ends. As you said, it's disconnected. I always felt that the song was either rushed or incomplete. All the segments are good, tho Akerfeldt said in an interview that this was his least favorite song he's ever composed. I can't entirely agree, but I can see why. Tongue of God is also baller; In The Passing Light of Day is an awesome record I do like the Nevermore song too; I only like the bands guitarwork tbh; I think many people share the same sentiment
Also the lyrics "I die in the shower, I live in the bed, I cry in the shower, I scream in my head" he was living in the hospital and I'm sure taking a shower was probably very painful
The PoS song you were referring to is ICON... It's actually on the album after this one but it does have callbacks to this song. They tend to do callbacks from other albums a lot in their music

Funny how Pain of Salvation divides everyone's opinion within the community. Always polarising. A few years ago, I was mesmerised by the song played live with a powerful extended outro.
Cap needs to cut the keyboardist some slack. If there is any instrument that's hard to make sound cool it'd be a keyboard lol. I enjoyed it Colin. It does sound very Symphony X, but it sounds like the era of SX that I tend to enjoy more. So while I am not going to run immediately and consume everything I can about this band. I did like them and wouldn't mind hearing more. Sorry I missed the live stream.
Strange as it may seem 😁, Opeth definitely wins this set. To be honest, I didn't care for any of the other ones. Heck, not even Einar's. The recently released track (Like a Sunken Ship) from Leprous' upcoming album however, is really good, IMO. Back to Opeth... if Beneath the Mire is going to be replaced I hope he'll pick 🤞🏻the recently released track (S1) from their upcoming album (The Last Will and Testament). Oct. 11 release date. Woohoo!!
