I Hope they remake the radar concept with a bunch of fixes. It’s got potential to be so much better. Another thing I’ve noticed is that the distance from your seat to the rear rod holders on the wildy krate is far when you have the seat forward to pedal (at 5’10 I’m not tall but not that short that I’d expect this problem). With the 135 you get a bigger front hatch but the trade off is there is no sealing that thing well. At least that’s the case with mine where the lid does not fit the rim attached to it.. Either the recon/ATAK hatch or build the thing better. There’s many other little changes that I would make as well. Edit: just noticed with your radar rudder cables you still have them in the last guide before the rudder. Take them out of that guide and they will be more in line.
turning radius is about same as most switchblade rudder kayaks. The faster you go, the faster it turns.. Extremely stable kayak. I'm still using the same kayak as my tournament rig.
yes, the Helix mount is the same for both kayaks. The brush guard will have to be modified to fit around the prop alignment slot on the Recon. They have separate rudder steering handles but all the physics is the same.
I totally agree Chris. I love the Radars but I have 2 gripes. Both Radars have the drive cover pod that you have to unscrew the top in order to used it as a dry storage should you choose not to have a pedal drive. Also I agree with you 1000% on the 115's small bow hatch. There are plenty of other companies out the that utilize a full sized hatch. Other than that the Radar in my own humble opinion is a great platform. Subscribed.
You seem like you know a lot about kayaks. Im kinda new still. Do you have any experience or opinion on the vibe shearwater 125? This one is way out of my price range.
Vibe has traditionally made a great kayak. I've had friends with the seaghost and loved them. The shearwater is a good looking kayak...the drive and rudder leave alot to be desired though. Those I know with the shearwater have had issues with those areas, however they also were some of the first to get it...those bugs may have been worked out by now.
Hi, I can't find a kayak roof rack for this model, I bought 2 recon 120 and I have a Hyundai Tucson. All kayak roof racks that I see on market are 36 inches and 75lbs and recon 120 is 38 inches and 94.6 lbs. Any suggestions?
I am looking form someone to test out a few of the control handles I made for another Kayak that I keep hearing it works for this one.... Can someone send me an email to coordinate a research and development test. Good review man... www.etsy.com/Figxter/listing/678618248/rudder-control-handle-for-steering?Copy&ListingManager&Share&.lmsm&share_time=1620331653313
absolutely!!! I spend a full day on the water when I'm out...and I stay comfortable all day. There are the few little things I'm not happy about, but I've adjusted to those and continue to fish on!
@@TWC6724 I wish it had a paddle park on the outside of the kayak. I use the paddle storage normally, but there are times I need my paddle and would be nice to have a spot to clip the paddle into. I will probably add one eventually. I normally throw the kayak in the bed of my truck, but recently I had to trailer it. I love the built in handle at the back, but kinda wished there was one on top for securing when transporting.
Can you post an updated review showing how you installed the battery as well as you're pros/cons after using it? Or if you could just tell me where the best place to install the battery is. Thanks!!
Is that the Mesa camo color? And on the underside, I couldn’t tell because the camera didn’t pan far back enough, how long are the indentations for the transducers? Just wondering if they’re long enough for all these long side scan transducers out on the market now
Best review on the net for the Recon 120 and Radar 115. I own a Radar 115 and completely agree with all your comments (both positive and negative). The only thing that I am curious about is whether you found that the center hatch annoys you when you are standing and fishing (which it does for me, but I stand a lot). You seemed to indicate that you could use the drive from your radar in the recon, is that true? Becuase boy would that save a lot of money! (it also means that if you have two kayaks - e.g. one at cottage, one at home, you only need to bring the pedal drive!) I look forward to a review once you have been on the water and really got a feel for it. Especially in strong winds because the Radar seat's ability to drop down a few inches when things get dicey was a nice feature - although I see the benefit of a higher seat for fishing.
yes, the drive is the same, the rudder is the same...the only notable difference between the 2 is the rudder control handle. Rudder deployment is different, but same cords and all, just where you run them is different. Wilderness has done away with the brass inserts on the Helix drive, so the Recon drives won't have the brass inserts, however my replacement Radar drive is insert free as well.
How is the stability on the Recon? i'm a bigger guy and with the seat height i dont know if it would feel tippy or not, im really wanting this kayak though.
@@mikeh6583 hey there, I love my Recon but I didn't get an HD, I'm a "Hobie" guy when it comes to pedals! My Recon rules the water as a "motor boat" though!
@@TahoeYakFisher thanks for the info! I like Hobie too, depending on the model. Don't want to pay the price of a new one and I'm not a fan of the color options of the used ones in my area. Found a barely used(guy says twice) Recon HD with paddle and brand new wilderness cart in my area that I'm supposed look at today. Quite a bit cheaper than a Hobie and way cheaper than new price of the Recon. Hope I'm making the right move! Can find almost no videos of actual owners using them for months and reviewing them. Really like the layout of the Recon
@@mikeh6583 got ya, well I'm not sure you can go wrong. Its an absolutely fantastic fishing kayak. I have been fishing mine for almost a year and have NO regrets!
I did the lower guadalupe from the canyon lake dam to the dunlop dam in my wilderness ATAK and it was great! I'm about to buy the recon. Great video! Let's go fishing!
Thank you so much for taking the time to show us the recon. I have ask wilderness to post a walk through since the release. But sadly they have yet to do so. You answered all the questions I had about this kayak. And you pointed out all the things I didn't like about my 115 I am like you I love my radar. And thanks to you taking the time to show ma the recon it will be added to my kayak fleet thank you again much appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to do this! I have a radar and am expecting a recon in the next couple weeks! Your video comparison was exact what I was looking for!
Looks like someone is happy to get their new battleship. Don't blame you dude, she's a beautiful yak. Very timely review man, been wondering about this one. Awesome comparison between the radar. Well done.
