Everytime MadBum came to SF we cheered for him despite being a DBack and seemingly hating it the more we did it but he still deserved it. Obviously a little different since hes an actual living legend for SF but we always wish him the best. Even now he should come home! Hope Cousell gets the standing O eventually
I don't feel the least bit sorry about angel getting crap online. Be better. The only reason hes gone is because MLB PAID HIM TO LEAVE. HES SO BAD AT HIS JOB THEY PAID HIM TO GO AWAY. Dude probably got more money to walk away from his job than what most of us will make in 20 years.
I think what everyone misses in saying that Ángel wasn’t as bad as his reputation is that it was way more than just his balls and strikes. It was that his brain fart quotient was entirely off the scale. One forgotten example: in the 2009 ALDS, Hernandez completely missed a fair/foul call on either Texeira or Cabrera’s game-tying double. He called the ball fair; replay showed it was clearly foul. Plays in the field, there were some things that he would just inexplicably miss.
I’ll never forget Angel’s non home run call against the A’s. He reviewed the replay and still got it wrong. It’s that reason alone why I’ve always hated him as an umpire. Good riddance!
Obviously angel didnt think he sucked or he wouldn't have tried to sue the league saying its not because he sucks hes not getting the post season. I wish i could live my life with as much as Angel Hernandez has thinking your good when you're not
I'd be more sympathetic to Angel as a person if he didn't literally sue MLB over a bogus discrimination claim cause he couldn't fathom that maybe he just wasn't that good
Umpires are all under such small microscopes now and now everyone is using it to say they’re horrible even if the “missed” call was missed by .02 inches. They aren’t nearly as bad as they are made out to be. Doesn’t help that different broadcast, different apps, all have different strike zones
I'm mixed. I'm happy an umpire who was horrible is out of the game but I will miss angel. You always knew something was going to happen when you saw he was part of the crew doing your team's game or a Sunday night game
I’m surprised that no one said 2017 Ender Inciarte over 200 hits in that season (201 to be exact). Great draft very close to the end. Great job by Jolly Shelfie & Jake!!!!
For Ronald, the hardest part will be his mental health. He’s spoken about the last recovery and the toll it took on him. Hopefully with this understanding, Braves org and him and stay connected and open communication.
Was it piling on when it comes to Angel Hernandez? Maybe, but the fact that he decided to quit so abruptly....that is potentially one of the best 'bow to public pressure and criticism' in years, especially in sports. MLB should take that as a hint that adding 'accountability' for its umpire crews would improve things.
Counsell isn't just a long term player who left a team. Counsell was born and raised in MKE. His dad worked for the Brewers. And the Brewers offered him the highest contract ever for a manager. Then went to the Cubs. It it betrayal.
I’m a Phils fan, and it really sucks Acuna got hurt again. I really enjoy watching him play. Hope he bounces back like Frank Gore and has a hell of a career
Angel wasn't the worst but some of the things he has done put the spotlight on himself. There is that infamous moment when he and a drunk Mongo were arguing.
Angel Hernandez was a horrific umpire and an all around bad person. His eject button was too soft. That's it. Joe West sucked. CB Bucknor and Laz Diaz suck even worse. They suck. It's not nasty to point that out. It's not uncomfortable to say it. They suck and need to go. They make the world less bright when they are behind the plate.
Pisses me off that you only pick up on the Snell story and not all the come-from-behinds that the Giants have. How many stories have you had about the Mets, the Pirates, the Reds (Rosey!), yet here are the Giants above 500 and doing it in insane ways.
I blame the umpire's union. They should have done something long ago. 'Send him down' to AAA... have remediation courses. Something. The whole just sending the difficult umpires out there all the time is wrong. The lack of transparency is hurting them...
I read a study recently about umpiring calls in MLB. The focus of the article I read was on Angel Hernandez's stats compared to other umps. His numbers were right near the mean average, and the crux of the analysis was that he'd been unfairly targeted, considering that there were umps w/ many more egregious errors. Having a player offer their opinion on an ump doesn't override the statistical data.
Umpires eyes get worse as they get older just as athletes bodies get worse as they age. No reason to keep umpires behind the plate their entire career.
Now just add Laz Diaz and C. B. Buckner to the list and we’re getting somewhere. It is pure idiocy to have a profession where you can’t simply let go employees that can’t work to standard. Moreover, MLB needs to embrace tech calling balls and strikes. If not for every pitch, need to give both teams 3 challenges. Enough with the stupidity. Game. After game. After game, ad nauseum. “That’s not healthy for the sport.” Indeed. Well said.
I think they are embracing it, they are giving it a trial run in the MILB, they aren't going to just implement ROBO umps or whatever until they get 100% right down in MILB
Maybe the takeaway this time for Acuńa will be that if he leads off the game by getting on base, he doesn't automatically have to steal. I know it's exciting and it pads the numbers but think situationally. Anyway, get well soon and go Braves.
@@fredreichwein2313 probably the umpire union not the MLB. Remember the MLB tried to fire him a few years ago, Angel sued them over racism, and the resulting investigation came back that Angel was just bad at his job. Good riddance to him.
IIRC, his 2021 injury was on a flyball off the bat of Jazz Chisholm Jr. and someone from the Marlins stopped Jazz at third base so it would 'only' be a triple instead of a homer, given that Acuña was hurt. Conversely, I remember when Charlie Culberson got his face broken by a wild pitch and the Nationals asked for a review of if he went around or not while he's lying on the ground pouring out blood in the batter's box
@@CrosbyBaseball I remember when chase utley injured dude at second and they realized he was safe and they were challenging. The look on chases face is so good
