Footballers were better and more skilful in those days. The game was played by senior men. The youth players served an apprenticeship playing reserve football.
I was there. 14 years old in the Ozzie End slightly to the left of goal. My feet were off the ground for the whole game, wedged in between adult shoulders I watched and apart from the goals and the roar of the crowd when we scored I remember King Kev's backside disappearing down the line time and again.I think they admitted to about 45,000 but there were considerably more than that on the night. Great days indeed. Thanks for posting.
Dave Mackay’s Derby side was beautiful to watch in the days of goalies not wearing gloves, little arguing with the referee (even though there were some terrible decisions) sponsorship limited to advertising around the pitch, European Cup for Champions only and a proper knock out competition. Proper football played by proper men in better times unlike today’s overrated nonsense.
Spurs had good forwards but their defence was awful. The notion that if you have mediocre defenders but good forwards, you will continue to win matches has always been a problem at Spurs. In this particular game, the full backs and wing halves were third rate. Hence, they were thumped by Derby.
The season we got to Wembley final. Remember it like it was yesterday stood on the popside. Pembridge had a great left foot and with a prolific strike force with Simmo etc. goals were never a problem Cost a lot at the time but peanuts compared to todays prices!
A long trip down there in January. In the away end and Marco's winner made it all worth while though. He deserved to get more credit than he did at the time or ever since. Doubt many younger fans know much of him?
ahora viendolo bien, cualquier cosa este partido, el segundo gol del madrid incorrectamente anulado y el ultimo penal del derby hubo mas invasion que la de alemania a polonia
I was at that game. Trevor Whymark missed a penalty early in the second half (not shown here) which might have squared it at 3-3 and the outcome would have been different.
I was there, sat in the paddock in front of the ABC stand - and I'll be there on 27 April, hopefully to watch us confirm promotion from the third tier again!
Mark Wright. Peter Shelton. In the ranks of Derry County that year 1989, the reason why Derby ranked fifth in the league. Among the starters who played 7 matches for England in the 1990 World Cup.
I am Man United fan and a Costa rican, and its so ironic cuz I am happy for my fellow costa ricans, but at the same time feel so bad for my team. The worst part is that when a costa rican scores against Man United, we end up always losing.
Was this the game where Bob Wilson said "Who are Derby County I don't know them." Cloughie's reply after the game was " I bet Wilson knows who bloody Derby County are now "......
I hate seeing people in this shirt. We're hopeless atm Warne-ball is okay but the players are moderate. I'd rather throw the young 'uns in and watch them grow with some hard-cases for protection. Washington, Collins, Hourihan are rubbish and the club is becoming a joke
definitely double standards as regards challenges, Orient player breathes on derby player foul, derby player fouls orient player play on. Lot of O's players ended up at Palace, Jackson, Queen and Possee and I think Hoadley too?
