i wouldn't say the inputs for these are similar to those of forward drop midairs. forward drops use a jump while neutraling your dpad then a brief right-down press to slow you down when you release the shell, then neutral again allows you to catch back up to the shell. these upthrow ones are mostly about putting the shell the correct distance away and meeting it near the apex of your jump so you can pass through it while releasing jump and run and pressing them again once you get the jump from the shell.
Depends on what they're going for, in my opinion. I'd have to see more to render a proper perspective. It _looks_ like the level design is just for testing the mechanics for spring platforms, but it could also function as a relatively simple introduction to said mechanics. Reasons being: 1) There are only 3 spring platforms present 2) It's a very short level that doesn't utilize anything abnormal for this type of hack. 3) Each spring platform requires a distinctly unique interaction: - The first is originally intended usage that most people should be accustomed to. - The second is something I've never even seen before. - And the third forces use of the most extreme end of the spring platform, something actively avoided by most players wherever possible.
i think my first ever clear took roughly around 15 hours back in 2022. around the time i recorded this video i would randomly replay the level for fun, eventually i was well practiced enough with it to get the clear within a few minutes sometimes, so i went for back to back clears.
@@marvisjj thank you. Is Shellscape still the hardest level you've played? Also, what about those 6 Glitch Cat dragon levels? How much time for beating those first try?
this level's gimmick is input blocks. they work by becoming solid or non-solid depending on if you have the button on them held or not, when solid touching them hurts mario. some of them are inverted so their on/off state is the opposite of others so you need to switch between holding and releasing the same button at specific times. the ones with X on them count as both Y and X.
in the tutorial stage you can get a spring from the room that demonstrates the custom blocks, or yoshi for completing the series of rooms that shows all the different tricks. once you have one of them bring it back through the top-left pipe by shelljumping to return to yoshi's house. once there either spring jump or yoshi ditch in the air to go above the top of the screen, this will teleport you to the secret world overworld submap.
@@marvisjj oh nice! yea its def a bit counter intuitive at first but once you get the hang of it, its easier than the intended route (and more stylish imo)
