Very interesting. Andy was a metal guitarist in a largely pop synth band. An extremely wonderful pop synth band, but he didn't have a lot of opportunities to cut loose.
@@TomTremayne No, I did not. I remember the last day I saw him, he went to a family funeral; I believe it was his uncle who passed away. I remember how Mathew put some effort into being dressed appropriately; it was a stunning transformation ;)
Thanks Donovan, I spent some time with his cousin/uncle/nephew (can't recall the exact relationship) when his ship put in to port in Barcelona way back in the late 1980s. Would love to see him again, so much time has passed now tho'. @@DonovanJSzypura
@@TomTremayne, I can recall that I saw a comment about someone claiming to be Maff's nephew somewhere on a RU-vid clip, either on a Bow Wow Wow or Chiefs of Relief clip. If I find it, I'll let you know; that may help you to reconnect.
No Donovan, that'll be me maybe posting on some other video with the same question I asked you. I also used to go to Chiefs of Relief gigs back in the day. What was MA doing in Switzerland? Did he live there for any length of time? @@DonovanJSzypura
With the era of Email,Cell phones and Payphones and Landlines becoming Extinct. You could never write this song NOW in 2023 .cause Nobody would buy into the Song...
This album & the song were HIGHLY under rated: 1980s. Power Station was made up of Robert Palmer & band members from different groups. They should of recorded more music, 1990s.
Walking thru the local supermarket I heard "get it on" today. It's been about 30 years. This was the first song I hit when I downloaded the album after I got home. Just can't say enough about those gated drums of Tony Thompson and John Taylor bass re-establishing what is possible harmonically AND rhythmically in pop music.(James Brown, bitches.) Andy does pretty good to. What a crazy in your face guitar tone. Robert Palmer was a total get, just perfect for a one off supergroup. Kinda like "Them Crooked Vultures" of more recent times. What a kick! Thanks for the light show. Better than just looking at the album cover!
When will the other guys realize that they are not as famous without Andy. You can just watch the Wembley concert and other concerts they did around the world. And they had those huge arenas hoppin' back when they were doing the reunion tour. If only ALL of them would stop and sit down and talk out their differences. I hear that some of the band and fans have been asking Simon to write a book. Don't know whether that would be a good or bad thing or not. But it sure would be interesting!!
He's not Matthew Ashman, but he did a great job that night. Was hoping they would do a few more gigs as it would have been great to hear those songs live again . What a band Chiefs were..
D'accordo con te,non li ho più ascoltati da quel lontano 2006,l'anno in cui preferirono perdere Andy per delle poco felici scelte di collaborazione....
