What was the coaster at 4:50 called? I wasn't even alive back then. Also, it's crazy to see Le Scoot, the sky ride, and the swings and how little they've changed.
That will be fine. I have given rights to Busch Gardens as well to use the video. If you post your video online, please let me know so I can see your finished work.
Not a stupid question at all. To be honest, I'm not sure. Someone stated a "time texter". Thanks for viewing my video of Busch Gardens: The Old Country.
I miss how pretty BG The Old Country was. Now trees are gone and gaudy rides are all over. Family classics like Wolf and LaMans, and animald removed for gimmicky rides like verboltens, a drop.tower, a dive coaster, or that silly tempesto. Trees being gone hurts the oark badly. Shows and music have lessened in option and quality too. And its too muchminey now.
I think the tree issue was due to a pipeline running through the park and the owners of the pipeline wanted to see it from the air, so the right of way was cleared. I'm sure the company who owns B.G. is in it for making as much money as it can, so they seem to be focused on rides verses shows. I still liked "Ghosts of the Globe" and the Marty Kroft Puppet show in Hastings (now Ireland). Thanks for viewing my video.
Thanks for your comments, William. I mainly posted this video for the ones I worked with at Channel 12 in Richmond, VA. This salute was done after "Hee Haw" was going to be replaced with two episodes of "MASH" after the Summer Olympics in 1989. I made the suggestion that I edit "Hee Haw" down to 30 mins. and airing one episode of "MASH" afterwards. The station manager and Gaylord Productions agreed. Thus, I spent the rest of the season cutting the show down to 30 mins. but keeping it on the air in Richmond. It was a challenge, but I enjoyed doing it.
@@New1Kent I love it! Watched this show as a kid. For some reason, the only comeback to a friend of mine's post this morning was a good old fashioned hee haw salute and I came across this. Sweet!
@@georgeannadecarlo8053-- Thanks for the comments, Georgeanna! I ended up editing "Hee Haw" down to 30 mins. during the summer of 1989 on WWBT in Richmond, VA. It was a challenge, but it was fun. During that year I went to Nashville and watched them tape two days' worth of "Hee Haw". Ray Stevens and Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were the cohosts. I took lots of pictures.
@@New1Kent That's awesome! What a group of co-hosts! I would have been star-struck for sure. But that was the great thing about Hee Haw, it was all about fun and people got to see the "down home" silly side of everyone, especially unique glimpse of people who lived a glamorous life in the spotlight. You have an album to treasure.
I was a marionette operator at Busch Gardens in 1976 for Sid and Marty Krofft. One of the scenes on this clip was the grand finale' with a character called "Michael Recycle". The following year the park brought in the Bil Baird Puppets in the same theater.
Thanks, Jerry, for checking out my video of Busch Gardens in 1976. You and those you worked with really did a fantastic job. Sorry the clips I took didn't have any sound, but back in the 70's I only had a Super 8mm silent camera (which I still have). I was surprised that I had the actual date when we went, which was during the Bicentennial. If you have any more memories about Busch Gardens: The Old Country, please feel free to share them.
Thank you for this video. It's great seeing the park as how I remember it the first time I visited. Thanks for bringing back such great memories. I still remember my grandfather banging his knees when we rode Das Katzchen.
This was the second year of operation. I remember going the first year, and the park didn't have Oktoberfest yet. I liked it better without all those giant roller coasters. The ticket prices were so reasonable in those days.
Thanks John for checking out my video of Busch Gardens. Back then it gave you a better feel of being in the various countries. I totally agree, things have changed since then. Sorry I didn't have more footage. Those 8mm reels only had 4 mins. on them and rather expensive for a 17 year old.
Been going my whole life, and it's pretty cool to see this video you shot of the park before I was around. Actually went tonight with my wife and kids. Thanks for sharing this.
Hello Alex, Thanks for checking out my footage of Busch Gardens way back in 1976. I can't believe I was able to find it. I wish I had of saved some footage that I had edited out. I'm sure I took some footage of the double decker buses and British cars that took people from across the road. As you can see, some things haven't changed. I still liked their outfits back then, made you feel more like you were in Europe. Thanks again for commenting. Take care, Billy Hott
Retirement is great! The "Hee Haw" moment was one I really enjoyed while at Channel 12. How did you find this "Salute"? Thanks for checking it out...Billy
Thanks Donna for checking out my video. I understand that the Glissade roller coaster that was there then is now in Mexico. I tried looking for some missing footage, but I guess I threw it away after editing. Take care, Billy
Thanks, Billy. This is awesome! We went for the first time in 1979, and this is exactly how I remembered it. While we are so close to Busch Gardens, we had always gone to Kings Dominion, instead. We loved it our first time at Busch -- so much shade and an entirely different type of fun than at Kings Dominion. I was terrified the first time we rode on the Log Flume ride (and I got soaked!), but my boys thought it was fantastic. Thanks for the memories!
I grew up going to Busch Gardens... two sisters worked there in the early 80s and I worked there for four summers! I remember visiting before Italy existed!
That was so Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I pretty much grew up there. My family even did one of the first commercials at Busch. I met my spouse working there in 1985. Great memories.
One year after it opened. This is very neat. I never was into Busch Garden like I am with Disneyworld, but I know there are lot of people who enjoy it.
Thx for taking the trouble to digitize/upload this. That July was our first visit after the park opened in 1975. How we loved it -- true escapism! I NEVER enjoyed Disneyworld as much as "Busch Gardens-The Old Country" & I really wish they'd bring back some of the details, like the peasant woman 'washing laundry' in the fountain. Those things really contributed to the atmosphere, took us to another time, & freed us, if just for a day, of the economic turmoil our nation was facing at THAT time.
Really great stuff! I was hoping to see footage of the Fun House or the le Catapult ride that used to be indoors. Those were two of my favorite things in the park when I was a kid. It is still the "Most beautiful theme park in the world," but not like it used to be.
I grew up just a few miles from Busch in the 70s. We had seasons passes as kids and would spend much of the summer there. Mom would drop us off in the morning and pick us up in the afternoon. Great memories! Thanks for the blast from the past.
This was great. I work there for the summer and this was great to watch and try to see where things are and aren't. I'm glad I don't have to wear those uniforms to draw portraits in.
This is fascinating - what amazes me most is that a LOT of it is the same now as it was here..sure stuff's been added and moved here and there - but just a glance and I recognized so many of the areas. one question - the castle looking thing where they had a show, where was that? Was that where the show in Ireland is now?
Wowie, WOW! So cool to see this footage of what Busch Gardens looked like before any of the current roller coasters went in - specifically the view of the Rhine River from the train, Alpengeist next to Le Scoot. This is fantastic footage!
