I saw Elliott in high school/college a couple times. Once in 99 another in 2000. Was partial to Figure 8 but when i listen back in nostalgia I go to Either/Or

Listening to this, the 57th time I’ve listened to FABOAH, I’m realizing that he was attempting to create his epic masterpiece. It was probably 20-30% done. I can’t imagine what his final version would have been, but with all the intricate and chaotic sounds on this album, I feel like we’re only getting a glimpse of what the end product would have been. How terrible that we were robbed of the masterwork of a genius

The words at the end of Coast to Coast is a poem being read by a friend of Elliott's named Nelson Garry.
@purrsnickety8269
@purrsnickety8269 12 дней назад
Songs like Coast to Coast, Shooting Star, King's Crossing were supposed to sound rough. He would record them in ways to make it sound kind of "off" like using multippe drummers, tuning one guitar sharp and another flat so that together it would sound correct but have this kind of woozy seasick feeling to it....also having rhe recording go from mono to stereo and one speaker to the other. There are alternate mixes of those songs that are even MORE rough but apparently the family and Larry Crane chose not to use those mixes. Also Elliott was notorious for changing things a lot in those last few months so who knows what he would have ultimately chosen. They didn't ADD anything to any of the songs they just cleaned them up a little. Also the song Ostriches and Chirping was from a toy that David McConnell had(producer) and Elliott loved it and recorded it to tape on the same reels as some songs and they put it on the album...theres no way to know if Elliott was planning on putting that on the album or not.

When he recorded Either/Or he recorded enough songs for a double album and thats where a lot of these songs come from like, New Disaster, Go By, Placeholder, Going Nowhere etc... Last Hour was actually recorded at that time as well.

Going Nowhere is one of the most beautiful songs he ever wrote.

Hi, I discovered your channel today really and I love it so much, if I had more time I'd explain why in detail, but anyway I see that you made a tutorial of anything, and it's a great song. But to me this one hits harder and only ercently we got a live version of it so someone like you can probably get the notes perfectly ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l1luOFTqGcA.html if you ever do it I'd appreciate it!

This is the saddest, most relatable song known to man. I genuinely can’t listen to it without crying. What profound loneliness you must have to write something like this. And how cutting it is that so many of us can relate. God save us.

In 2019 I heard speed trials for the first time and got obsessed with it. When I first listened to the whole album and heard Alameda for the first time I knew I was gonna love the album. That opening guitar line and simple yet punchy drum part was just perfect

I didn't really understand open tunings but I can see at least with Elliott you can do a lot of stuff with your melodies around the guitar more fluidly. Not sure if I'm accurate on that, but awesome analysis!

Dude, the absolute dedication you carry to this deliberately delicately crafted masterwork by the (possibly) strongest willed and greatest singer-songwriter of all time is stupendous. Channels like this one and Learn2Ween are far more practical for gaining advantageous knowledge on these artists, and that is for the rationale that you n' him show you care for the artist on separate grounds who cover them in a sea of others. You cast tutorials from the heart, and that I respect most. Bless you homie.

Dude you're a great teacher. Elliott means so much to me. It's impossible and a shame to type it. It wouldn't do Elliott OR my late best friend, Lucas (who introduced me to his music) an ounce of justice. I love everything and every word I see on my phone rn. Thank you, your fan. Dylan Tamblin

I felt like he wrote the song for the listener. To make their own. I felt that way with so many of his songs. Its weird. Also, kings crossing is an old soap opera. Not sure if it has anything to do with the songnor not.

I always thought it was crazy how on a distorted reality is now a necessity to be free the lyric shine on me baby cuz its raining in my heart and how he ended up with multiple stab wounds to his chest. In his heart. Weird. So much mystery surrounding the whole ordeal. I discovered elliott smith on a public radio channel, she was playing "the recently deceased elliott smith's songs. I was blown away and it has stuck with me ever sinse.
