I’m sure the Van der Linde Gang is inspired by Butch Cassidy’s Wild Bunch. Arthur even shares some similarities with Kid Curry, with both being the most capable and deadliest members of their gang.

The thing I find most sad, both about the historical Wild West and the one presented in movies, books, and videogames, is too often it glorifies theives and killers, it makes them out to be heroes of sorts, when they were in reality anything but that.
@hazza1845
@hazza1845 Месяц назад
I agree with what you said there. Doing the research on this video made me realise a lot of the outlaws were some of the worst criminals of their time and definitely should not be glorified or be made out to be heroes.

@hazza1845 - Sadly, that's the world we live in, it portrays the idea that's what's bad is cool and what's good is lame, and it likes to portray the idea that doing what's wrong will bring good to you, when the truth is anything but. A guy like Jesse James for example, from everything that I have of read about him, he was the kind of guy that would shoot you as soon as look at you, he wouldn't think twice about it, nor feel guilty afterward for doing so. Butch Cassidy, though not a killer, certainly didn't mind riding with men who had no problem doing so, like Harvey "Kid Curry" Logan, and Elzy Lay. The movie Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid certainly got a lot of Butch's personality right, in that he was a generally "decent" guy, but he was still a thief, and whose crimes affected both the rich and the poor alike, as the poor kept their money in banks the same as the rich. You can do the right thing and get the wrong outcome, but doing the wrong thing will ALWAYS bring disaster to you, as both men found out and ended up dying violent and bloody deaths according to history, and brought shame and heartache on their families because of their wayward way of life. Doing the right thing may not always get you ahead in this world, but it always brings the blessing, because you are able to have a clear conscience, and you are able to live a life where you're not having to look over your shoulder, as compared to those who do the wrong thing, and may get wealthy or whatever, but their lives are gonna be full of stress and worry, as they're always gonna have to be concerned about their misdeeds being exposed, and having to suffer the consequences for them in one way or another. "They will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes...The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast...People ruin their lives by their own foolishness...A man reaps what he sows...Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." - Proverbs 1:31, 5:22, 18:3, Galatians 6:7,9
@hazza1845
@hazza1845 Месяц назад
That is very true, especially in today's world! Like you said Jesse James shot many people and took part in committing atrocities against Union Soldiers during the Civil War. He was not a pleasant man, but has been glorified and even has a festival named after him in his home town! Which I think is crazy! Your last sentence is true, doing the wrong thing will always catch up with you. Many of the outlaws of that period ended up dying at the hands of lawmen, I think when you start a career in crime it is very hard to put it behind you, these guys made a lot of money from crime yet hardly any stopped and continued doing crime.

@hazza1845 - There is a scene in the movie Pale Rider, where "Preacher" is invited by the main villain, a wealthy man named Lahood, to have a drink where he tries to bribe Preacher, because he wants to run off some local miners that have gold and legal claims to the land they're working, yet can't mine there unless he can drive them out, and Preacher is giving the miners the courage to fight back. He mentions to Preacher he is intent on hiring a crooked Sherrif and his deputies to run them out, and Preacher gets the man to consider buying the miners out, though initially for a very low price, and Preacher mentions that the Sherrif and his deputies will cost him a lot more, to which Lahood asks Preacher how he knows that, and Preacher asks him a question that I will never forget: "How much is it worth to have a clear conscience?" In my personal experience, having a clear conscience is priceless. "Those who walk uprightly enter into peace...But the wicked are like the tossing sea, which cannot rest, whose waves cast up mire and mud. There is no peace for the wicked" - Isaiah 57:2,20,21.
@hazza1845
@hazza1845 Месяц назад
Oh wow, that is an amazing scene. I have never seen that movie before but I will have to go and watch it now. That question from the movie is very powerful, having a clear conscience is so important, and everyone should try and strive towards that even if it means making difficult choices.

We are 100% headed towards an unavoidable cyberpunk future, however with a different flare from what’s depicted, the alarming part is we’re currently seeing literally all of the precursors for that, global war looming, natural/biological disasters looming, economic turbulence, and a tech hyper cycle that the world is unprepared for. Too bad no one will listen because they think anything like this is conspiracy
@hazza1845
@hazza1845 2 месяца назад
I agree 100%, I think like you said if you mention anything about this topic you are labelled a conspiracist but people do need to talk about it! Europe is heading to a war which will eventually become a global war, and with the rise of AI as well, which people are saying will only benefit us, they don't realise that it will probably be used in a harmful way. I generally think that it will only be 20-30 years until we are living in a cyberpunk future.

@@user-qq9nj2eu3p Yes, Braithwaite Manor is Oak Alley Plantation near New Orleans. There's a lot of buildings in Saint Denis that are recreated, as well as scenery, statues, cemetery, even exact same corn fence, all in New Orleans. Swamp houses, alligators, all inspired by Louisiana. So there's places that are exactly same like in the real life and then there's a tons of places and scenery that is inspired by real places.
