Geoff Thew, makes a living analyzing anime and other pop culture from the comfort of his mother's basement. Well, okay, actually he lives in a nice apartment now, but don't tell anyone, alright? He's known for his detailed breakdowns of the hidden secrets in anime openings, his fight scene analysis, and the Public Service Anime series, which provides helpful advice for everyday problems, like being caught up in a harem, or being transported to another world.
Join him every Tuesday and Saturday for deep dives into art that will give you a new appreciation for your favourite anime, video games, and films.
Honestly loved Gushing Over Magical Girls and i cant wait for it not to get a second season, it does however give me hope for a Machomaho adapation, because at this point lets just let magical girls do whatecer
No, sorry man but do not correlate Japan animation with our silly stupid ideas of gender roles, male vulnerability and representation. There's none of that, whatever you think you are seeing in these stories is not there. All these anime series do, is to depict universal themes of love, friendship and humanity, there's none of that crap you just mentioned. We can go at each other's throats about leftist ideas all day, you and me, the west, on our side of the ocean, that's ok, but do not pollute this beautiful form or art with those ideas. They are not representing anything more than universal human emotions and conflicts, no boundary breaking and no gender roles to speak of, go watch a netflix show or a Disney movie if you want to see that.
I’m not trying to defend anything he does, but that’s the thing, I don’t think it’s meant to be defended. Naofumi is more of an antihero and just a morally grey character. He doesn’t bad things, but he does a lot of good too. Especially in the beginning he’s consumed by darkness and despair so he is acting on that, but that changes him too. You can notice time and time again his severe trust issues from the trauma inflicted upon him. I truly don’t think he’s meant to be seen as a hero that is super pure. It’s not that kind of story. Imo, it’s unique in that way, he’s so morally grey.
Kazuki Takahashi released artwork of Kaiba and Yugi playing Yugi's new game -- "Sphere II" on Kaiba's space station, so it's more likely that Yugi's game saw some success, even if it didn't become a global phenomenon like Duel Monsters.
