Boardgame Ninja is a channel for high quality boards game explainer videos, in which we put the focus on showing the game in all details, so you won't be guessing which card is required or which track on the board is used. By using graphics and animations we dissect a game and make it easy to learn. After watching one of our videos, you can start playing immediately and know what you have to do during your turn. At the same time, we keep our videos short, since you have little time before the guests are on the doorstep and you have better things to do than hear what we had for lunch. Game on!
The tip about food is good, but even more important: hydrate! The air is warm with 40.000 people per day in there, and over 60.000 on Saturday. Drink water, not beer, on the fair grounds. Beer is for the evenings in the bars and hotels around the area. (also been going there for over 25 years)
In all those years I have never seen anyone misbehave, especially alcohol related. I did not know they sell beer there, but that might be me. Water is indeed important, maybe with added electrolytes.
Very nice videos! Good job. Have you thought about making a playthrough? Maybe just a sample turn or two.. I feel that this game is still somewhat in the shadow of Battlestar Galactica. I hope that will change, this is an excellent game.
Thank you. Never thought about making playthroughs. Maybe we should. Even in my group BSG gets played often. I think it is because the theme fits like a glove and people have invested a lot of money in it. I think Unfathomable has a slightly better rules set, just because they learned from BSG and improved on that.
I was looking forward to this game, but a bit disappointed that it’s just a card matching game. I was hoping for more depth. I do like the art style and theme though.
I don't think it was meant to be a strategic game, but it still has some though decisions in it. The fun comes from the different goals you are pursuing, so only chasing your own goal quickly gets you in trouble.
I would like to ask you something. If i play a hungry monkey i copy the effect of the card below But what about the next player? What card can he play? For example if i play a hungry monkey over a 10, it copies the number of 10? Thank you!!
Yes, your Hungry Monkey acts as a copy of the card below, so the next player has to play a 10 or higher for it to be valid. Unless he plays a Hungry Monkey himself or a Tiny Ant, which is always valid.
Ok another? for ya my friend. 2 player game: Say the 2nd player chooses to open an additional door and takes the 1st player token. The 3rd turn, player 1, chooses to stay and not turn over more doors. Now, the search. What’s next??
Next the leader reveals what is behind the two doors that were opened on their board. If a dog is found, then the 'search' stops. If no dog was found, the first player also has to reveal what is behind the two doors. If no dogs were found at all, you are a little wiser and start the following round.
Yes, unless you decide to close them all (and open new ones + 1) or initiate a search. But as I said before, I think part of the game is lost with two players. If you want a game with a similar feel, where you have to figure out what your opponent is doing and it is for 2 players; try Dracula vs Van Helsing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6Rru2xLXBd4.html
No I don't think so. If the Ant is the topmost card, you take all the cards in the animal pile, except the ant you just played. So you better use the 8 with other cards.
Hello Vince, thank you for the compliment. Page 10 of the rulebook states that you MAY deploy any or all troops recruited from the board space, plus two from your garrison. So you don't have to deploy them and so you can save them for a later turn. To my experience it is sometimes hard to deploy all the troops in your garrison to a fight in a later turn, so it is good practice to put at least one troop into a fight. You never know who might me pulling out at the last minute.
Hehe, of course you are right. I think the sheer size of the building, got me a little over-enthusiastic. Luckily it doesn't compromise your gameplay. Do you like the game?
@@BoardgameNinjas Yes its suprisingly deep and tactical with great replayability. I had to order a French copy from France because its not available in UK but its language independent so its ok.
Hallo!! I've got one question. I love this game and I've won every game I've played. That makes me suspicious as I normally don't win 😁😁😁😁😁. The loot cards, some of them have a reward that permits me to change the number a boss selected or even play both pair of dice. Is this reward a one-time thing? Or is it a permanent one as soon as I draw that loot card? Thanks for any help
Hello Alejors, yes it is indeed a one time effect. But you don't have to play them immediately, but can keep them until it suits you. You discard the card and apply the one-time effect (page 7 of the rules, yellow box). The effect is strong but not game changing.
That is a hard question. It definitely works, but you miss a lot of gameplay with only two players. Bluffing is only limited and since you only have to focus on the other player, it is much more difficult to mislead the other. I think with two players there are other, better games.
We tried playing it but a few questions came up. #1 What if all doors end up being opened by a player? does that mean we start the search? and who goes first because that person will for sure reveal a dog. #2 If i have two X revealed at door #3 and #4, and if the nominated door is #1 and #2, and i have my dog at #1, then i will reveal a dog and an X, will that earn me a penalty or a victory point? I don't mind creating house rules but i just want to understand how the game works first, Thanks!
Hi there, let me try to answer your questions #1: In the "deciding on doors to search"-phase, you nominate one door to open at a time. If all doors get nominated to be opened, the player with the leader marker starts revealing first. The leader will show their dog, and the round stops. No other player will reveal their doors. So no player will nominate the last door; they will become leader by nominating the last door and have to reveal a dog for sure. Beter take one of the other actions. #2: It will give you a penalty. Only if your dog was not found after the round ends, you get a victory point. The round ends when a dog has been revealed or when everyone has revealed the nominated doors and no dog was found. At our gaming table, we think the game is quite solid and doesn't need any house ruling. Thank you for your question, if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask them!
Hi Skycaptain, what do you mean? I've made this channel to show what kind of videos I'm able to make. What kind of games I love. And because I like to watch a video myself when I'm going to play a new game. Furthermore I believe in top-down learning, where the game is explained with the goal (how to win the game) in mind as opposed to incremental learning (in which the last step of the video is how you can win the game). So I want to showcase that. Does this answer your question?
No the SHIFT boxes are just extra advantages that the losing party can use. So if you loose 7 consecutive rounds, you open all the boxes. But you have to choose which one you want to use for your next game. The winning party can use one to three boxes less than the losing party, depending on the winning streak. The SHIFT boxes bring a small advantage to the losing party and add some fun mechanics to the game, but they don't upset the balance. Some of them are never chosen by us, since they don't fit our style of play. After you have opened all the boxes, you simply cannot add more content or rules to the game, unless you decipher the secret messages that are hidden in the game!
It is a one-on-one game, but they added a third faction that can be played simultaneously. The core game, which we described is with two players. Have you tried to play with three players?
This is a great video! Concise explanation with great editing to show all information on the player sheets clearly. Getting ready to play for the first time today!
There it is again! Is backstabbery a word?? 😀 Don't care, I like it!! Bought the game a couple of months ago, haven't the chance to learn it yet. You've inspired me with your quick explanation of the rules. Great job! Thanks!!
The rule about not placing a cat in a box already occupied by another cat UNLESS you have a cat there already doesn’t make sense to me. Could you expand? If player A already had a cat there then player B never should have been able to put down a cat correct? So how is player A now blocked by player B? Also are you allowed to place cats in a box with Princess after the initial eviction by her placement?
It seems a bit contradictory, but you can't place a cat in a box where there is already a cat present of another player. Unless you already have a cat there. How do two cats of different players get in the same box? By combining boxes. A lot of the time you'll try to start little boxes, so you can grow them together and you have a chance to overtake the big box. Princess evicts a cat from a box. If you don't have any cats left in that box (and another player has), you can't place a cat in that box. But if the box is otherwise empty, you can try to reclaim it. Mostly in the game you'll use her to get the majority in one of your boxes, or to get one of your own cats back that is stuck in a hopeless box.
The description sounds a lot like Hungry Monkey, I agree. I didn't know the game, so thanks for pointing that out. I heard there is another game called Palace (old game) that is also similar in several aspects. Maybe better to keep it quiet, it might affect our karma ;-)
Love this How to play. I watched limited available videos on how to play mindbug but still couldn’t quite grasp the concept, being unnecessary long and not to the point. This video was top notch! Thank you
