Congratulations on your new and beautiful Freya💙 😍 So happy you'll be able to get everywhere in style! I love your videos and the music 🎶 Have great fun and see you in your next video! ✌️💜
We're new fans of Adventure Shetland! My husband and I spent a day in Shetland with Jon touring some of these sites, and it was the highlight of our 14-day cruise. Jon is so knowledgable about these archeological sites, absolutely amazing. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather, and saw puffins and seals, not to mention the ubiquitous sheep and of course, shetland ponies. Loved it! Can't wait to return for a longer stay. Thank you, Jon!
This was a wonderful video, loved it. After doing a DNA test recently I learned 66 % of my heritage is Scottish and from Orkney and Shetland. Growing up in the 60's with Nova Scotia Scottish Grand and Great Grand parents I alway knew I had a Scottish Heritage but finding out it was the northern isles was exciting, For know videos like yours is as close as I can get to the real thing for now.
@@adventure.shetland The bus shelter is one of the places we head for. We like to check out the current year’s theme. I Mistakenly called it Samm’y bus-shelter it is Bobby’s shelter. There is or was a stone on the associated traffic island. It reads or read. John Peel Memorial Traffic Island.
Yes, they were still at Calder’s Geo and further along the cliffs at Eshaness last year. I’ve not seen any so far this year, but that’s more likely because I’ve been there at the wrong time of day.
@@adventure.shetland Good to hear that. We have been up to Calder’s in the breeding season many times since aprox 1993. Last time 2023. At one time we walked south down to The Bruddens to sing and recite poetry to the seals. But one year used cartridge’s had ended up in crevices on the edge of the cliff. The seal numbers didn’t recover. So after about three years we stayed around the lighthouse area.
@@adventure.shetland That's why it sounded familiar; I know Aly Bain from Cape Breton! Kevin Henderson is new to me. Lovely musical background. And the Puffins are SO cute.
great to hear these stories told by you.. thank you! I visited that house between 1978 and 1980 with my dad and his workmates.. they were building the power station in Lerwick and had a day off.. we were in the house up and down the stairs.. some even were on the roof (it was on at that time) and in and out the rooms on the bright sunny day. Lots of photos were taken by various people at the time too.. only when we got back to the power station one of the locals said we shouldn't have gone there as it's haunted to which we poo pooed.. only not one single photo turned out that was taken there!! I actually only found out what the house was called today!!! hence why I was able to see this video.. amazing! The new owners must be bonkers to buy that.. with all it's history!
I´ve been to the Shetlands twice, once by air, and once by ferry. I didnt get round to seeing these Archaeological Sites mainly cuz i was on a bicycle. I did get to see a good example of a ´ Black House ´near Sudburgh (airport). Great video!!
I will get a video of Unst longhouses at some point for you (and everyone else too, but mostly for you!) Maps are definitely becoming something people want so I will do my best to add those too.
Interesting vid but as someone who’s never been further north than Orkney I’d have appreciated a map showing a map with the location of these places on it. Felt a bit like a vacuum and I’d have appreciated it a bit more grounded in the environment . Thanks
Apologies for the slow reply - I’ve got a video featuring some of those uploading to the channel today! I would love to do a more in-depth version of it too, so stay tuned for that!
I have a lot of family in Yell and this video brought back very happy memories being in Yell with my late father, a born and bred Yell man ,South pond, otterswick. Lots of your stories were gleefully told by my father and his brothers to scare the life out of me which amused them to no end. This still has a spooky feel even when you drive past. Thank you for the memories, miss my father greatly to this day. Shout out to my large family in Shetland. Keep up the good content
I've visited Yell twice and love it, my wife and I are planning a move to Shetland within the next ten years, we'd be happy to find somewhere on Yell to live.
It certainly was. I’m fairly sure this was a one-off, purely for the Tall Ships race, but if you fancy a winter trip there are plenty of torchlit processions between January and March each year.
