@cgdwoodworks759

thanks! availability of bamboo will depend on your location. here in the philippines we can easily get it in our backyard
@TheMurlocKeeper

Hi Gilbert! If you can't find anyone around that's growing it already, then you might be able to source it from your local hardware. (it'll be outdoors with all the garden stuff, near the decorative panels and walls, etc) I have no idea where you are in the world, but in Australia, Bunnings has some large lengths of bamboo that would be suitable for this project. It'd be worth a look. Hope this helps! :D

Does the Epoxy glueing work long term outside?
@cgdwoodworks759
@cgdwoodworks759 Год назад
definitely. in fact the bamboo rotted faster than the adhesion of the epoxy

I know this is an old video from 2 years ago, but I havent found anywere where it says if you can remove less than 0.5mm at a time. The lever allows for 1/4 of a spin for 0.5mm, but does the mechanism allow for the planer to move less? Would I be able to remove 0.25mm if i wanted?
@cgdwoodworks759
@cgdwoodworks759 Год назад
hey! i think you can remove less than 0.5mm of material. i dont usually use the indicator in the lever, instead id move the lever just a tiny crank at a time. im pretty sure you can remove less then 0.5mm or even 0.25mm. hope this helps

@cgdwoodworks759

I have a question about the blade durability, how long does it take before the blades get dull?
@cgdwoodworks759
@cgdwoodworks759 2 года назад
it largely depends on what wood you use it for. for softwoods, it can last you quite a while. in my case though, ive used it for hardwood and reclaimed wood (with nails) 😟, so I had to reverse the blade after roughly 3 months of continued use. If you are wanting to get one, i highly suggest getting a planer with a spiral cutter head. 😁
@donjulio3092
@donjulio3092 2 года назад
@@cgdwoodworks759 that’s quite good. I currently own a Dewalt 735 and those stock blades only lasts for 1 month before I have to reverse them. I use it mainly to plane tropical hardwoods. I’m thinking about investing another $500 for a helical head or swapping the unit for a makita
@cgdwoodworks759
@cgdwoodworks759 2 года назад
@@donjulio3092 the dewalt 735 is a great thickness planer. upgrading to a helical cutter head would be a great decision. a tad pricy but as far as feedback goes, it is well worth it.

Hello and congratulations on your creation of the Japanese fountain, it is beautiful, so much so that I started doing it too😅 .... Excuse me ... for this water feature what pump would I need? I wouldn't want to buy it too powerful, are solar panels suitable for this game too? Thanks in advance and have a nice day😉 Federico
@cgdwoodworks759
@cgdwoodworks759 2 года назад
hey! thank you. I didnt use a strong pump for this. 30-40watts should be enough for this. A solar powered pump is great though you’ll want to use something with lesser power. thank you!
@TheMurlocKeeper
@TheMurlocKeeper Год назад
The power of the pump you use will depend entirely on how high an elevation you want to make the water go. Measure the height of where the water is going to draw the water from (the pond, usually) and then from there, the height at which the water is going to feed out from. Take this information with you to the hardware when you go looking for pumps, and that sort of information will be on the pump boxes. Alternatively, if you need help, the store assistant will need that information as well, in order to help you choose the right pump. You can use a less powerful pump, but know that if you buy an underpowered pump, it might well burn out faster, as it will have to work hard to pump water up that high, and it will die faster. Get a pump that is powerful enough to do the job easily, and it will last much longer.

This is beautiful work and I'm not here to discredit your craftsmanship or creativity, but there is one little thing that bugs me. I'm sure it could work as a deer scarer but it's not very zen-like because when the tube is emptied and falls back in place, it makes this big "CLUNK" sound. Do you have any idea on how to improve this specific aspect of the build?
@cgdwoodworks759
@cgdwoodworks759 3 года назад
Hi. no problem at all. any comment is welcome. as for the sound, i purposely made it happen because its relaxing for me at least. 😁. you can eliminate the sound. all you have to do is remove the rock where the end of the bamboo hits after the water is emptied. replacing it with grass for example will make the landing a tad more silent. i hope this helps. 😁
@TheMurlocKeeper
@TheMurlocKeeper Год назад
You DO realise that the CLUNK sound at the end is precisely what it is meant to do, right? That is what it was called a "deer scarer" or "boar scarer". It made random enough loud noises to scare away animals! If you don't like this particular feature, you are going to have to build something a little different. but then...it wouldn't really be a shshi-odoshi anymore, now would it?
