Dynamesh destroys my mesh details even with resolution turned up...what do you think about merge boolean under the cogwheel of transpose master? I find it merges meshes without much artifects
Fantastic video! I have a question: Is it really okay to have that many triangles on a mesh? I often feel like using triangles like that but everyone says it will cause issues with deformations.
The decision around when to use tris versus quads depends on what the model will be used for. If the model it going to deform via animation or simulations its encouraged to use quads, but on a mesh that is going to be purposed for a static render or not intended to deform, triangles can be used to reduce the topology flow as there is no need for supporting loops. Triangles can cause shading issues when stretched or pinched.
just curious if you use zbrush to sclupt the detail? I'm doing my skin detail in Zbrush and it looks great but when I bring it to substance the base face model has horrible detail. Any tips?

Hi great tutorial, i have one question if you don't mind. In Maya UV layout, there is a pinning option for UVs where whatever operation you perform (smooth, unfold, etc), it will stay as is. I was looking for the same functionality but in Maya default layout (persepctive). I want to pin some points and smooth (through quad draw) the surrounding points. Currently, I’m doing it manually in quad draw(i.e. just smoothing per point) but I want to smooth the whole area for efficiency. Is this possible? P.S. I understand I can also script it where I store the selected position points. Smooth it. Then reapply the position back to points. It works but the problem is I need the pinned points to be a factor in smoothing the surrounding areas :frowning:
hi im very new to maya and retopology in the program in general, i have a problem with my polyplane/the retopo mesh disappearing when i try to isolate it with ctrl 1 or even just 1 face/poly being selected, what could be the problem? This happens when i go back /unhide/ not isolate the current mesh i want to retopo with.

Thanks for this! Today I started using Zbrush after a long break and completely forgot how counter-intuitive the ui and controls are. It will take some time to readjust.
It's like saying metaballs do nothing for organic shape like plants tree or spider or other complexe shape Zsphere is highly valuable and are able to be convert as a low poly structure that you can pose .
Pretty much nothing is made up of spheres. Not even spiders. ZSphere could probably make a decent looking bubble bath. But even then.. they would all overlap and cause errors.
