Thank you for the helpful update video. Did the pain in your eyes that comes when you do makeup/wipe off makeup go away by now? Or is it still uncomfortable?
Women, what would you recommend, getting PRK before or after having kids? I’m in that dilema right now. Apparently pregnancy can cause changes in eyesight
Interesting. I've never heard pregnancy to affect the eyes. Anyway. I am currently at a clinic in Dubai. With my 9yr old and 5 Yr old. I'm waiting to get my eyes sorted.
I am thinking of doing it even if I will get a little bit of side effects, because my eyes are +7,5 and +7,75 and I am a boxer and will either be a pro boxer or in military. I use lenses and my eyes are a bit anoying because of that, but I can live with it I just want a good vision and hopefully not too bad side effects. If everything goes as planned I will have it done within 1,5 months probably.
If you haven’t already, I would do it in your case. Im 25 and practice mma hoping to compete soon and I got prk about 3 months ago and it went perfect for me. Especially that your eyesight is as bad as it is, you have nothing to lose. My eyes were at -3.25 and -3.5 and I felt like I was getting barraged with punches and kicks from everywhere. Let alone how hard it was to learn wrestling and jujitsu when every body movement matters. Obviously this is my story and it’s different for everyone. Some ppl can’t stand the halo from lights that can come from the surgery but I was already suffering from that even with special anti glare add to my glasses. @@fioree2532 Thanks, but unfortunately I got a call from the clinic saying they couldn't do the surgery because I have a rare defect in my eyes called iris coloboma. I have it in both eyes and it makes my eyes more sensitive to light and risky to operate because my pupils are elongated. Now I know what to do.
I had my prk surgery and it’s been turning a month this Thursday 7.11.24 but why my near visions seems affected. I can’t read on focus or use my phones neither.
Bro...When I was in the MCRD RSP, there was one recruit who dealt with chronic constipation he couldn't use the restroom for a month and a half! 😳 Anyone in BMT, please look out for yourself medically. Even the seemingly most minor act of neglectful body hygiene could get you discharged, recycled, or generally make BMT more demanding than it should be. I should know, I had hand foot mouth. IT WAS AWFUL!😅

So glad to have you in POL. I was in POL for over 17 years and even though it was a couple of decades ago, so much is still the same. Especially about the joking and comradery, the brother and sisterhood and the recruiters trying to get the slots filled first for Security and Fuels. WE could pick our jobs back then before we joined, but there were no bonuses. Cooks were also added as always in big need. In fact, if some troops washed out of their tech school, often Security, Fuels or cooks would receive them.
As an ex SP in the late 70s and 80s, Police Agencies looked at LE SPs more favorable then Security Forces in part, they view Security Forces as the infantry of the Air Force.
So glad I found this video, even though it's 5 years later! 2 weeks ago I had laparoscopic surgery to remove a cyst on my ovary, and my OB discovered I also have stage 1 endometriosis. Similar to you, I always had uncomfortable periods but since I had nothing to compare it to, I thought it was just the norm. The diagnosis was very validating, but I was also worried about what the AF would say (I'm a Reservist). I'm relieved to hear you didn't face any issues with your IMR/overall readiness! I have my first drill weekend post-surgery this weekend, fingers crossed they're just as understanding.
Can I get diagnosed with endometriosis before joining the military as long as I can control it with pain meds? Maybe even go to the army or navy? I saw that endometriosis can be a disqualifying factor but you can also get a waiver. I haven’t been OFFICIALLY diagnosed yet but I’m 99% sure I have it so I’m debating getting diagnosed or seeking if I can make it through boot camp
I want this job but I want to work as a Neurodiagnostic technologist, so under the Aerospace medical service 4N0X1 there is this thing called shreadouts with multiple jobs like Neurodiagnostic medical tech, Independence Duty Medical Tech, Allergy/Immunization tech, Flight and Operational medical tech, Aeromedical Evacuation tech, etc. Does that mean I can pick one of those jobs as my main focus under the aerospace medical service?
I had PRK and it destroyed my vision. It was the worse decision I ever made and it destroyed my life and has destroyed the lives of so many others. I didn’t develop any vision issues until about a year after the surgery. You may be fine now but you can develop vision issues and/or severe eye pain years after the surgery. You are also more prone to all sorts of things like corneal ectasia, detached retinas, early onset cataracts, etc. Even if you don’t develop noticeable symptoms, your eyes are still damaged structurally. The cornea was never meant to be cut open. I wish every single day I could go back and not have it and be able to have perfect vison with glasses and soft contact lenses again. Unfortunately, I can’t go back in time but at least I can warn others about how dangerous these procedures are so maybe they won’t have to suffer like me. Please do not promote these horribly dangerous and completey unecessary procedures. All you’re doing is potentially hurting others by encouraging them to go through with it.
They don’t cut your cornea open with PRK. They do that with lasik. With PRK they remove the top layer of cells with alcohol and that’s what needs to heal. No incisions at all.
My brain surgeon advised against these surgeries because he said i have a thin cornea. i went through the screening process for 3 Laser Eye Surgery companies and they all said i did qualify and my cornea was thick enough. I went back to my brain surgeon and he still advised against it. Seeing as he makes $0 from saying "you qualify" I went with his advice.
smart. The eyes are essentially part of the brain and when eyes are damaged by laser surgery, the brain never recovers and the person damaged permanetly.
