This was one coaster in my opinion, that sitting pretty much anywhere but in the very front car, made it more fun! With another car in front of yours, as you crested that hill at beginning, with the way the track turns back towards itself, it looked and felt, first like you were going to crash into the parking lot, and then next second you could see it's the road you will crash into...😂😂 The Steel Phantom was rough, especially for a steel coaster, but the 2 tight loops were also awesome, because you(or "I was" would be correct, please forgive my usage of the word "you", when obviously it was myself and I am cleary giving my own personal perspective) were definitely made to feel as if the coaster cars were going to smash into each other! The coaster was extremely fast for it's kind, especially considering the track layout, and it was unforgiving in the way those forces thrashed riders about, it played with your mind and literally shook you and your scenes. It was practically over as fast as it started and in the end, when it was over, you couldn't believe you were still in one piece! Sitting in the front car was still fun and could give you the sense of crashing after cresting the hill at the beginning, but you could see the track in front of you too well from that seat that the end of the track illusion ended a bit too quickly. It was more fun for me to watch the cars disappear over the crest and then have the car in front blocking the downward view as they begin to drop in front of you, making it look and feel like your destination is going to be that parking lot. For most roller coasters it's the first or the last seat, or both, that provide the optimal ride experience, but this was a coaster that being around the middle but just slightly towards the back, was the position that was the most fun for me, this placement maximized the "we are so about to crash" feeling. The back was fun too, but you didn't get to experience the we are about crash feeling for nearly as long during the loops. I miss the Steel Phantom!
Humm, I haven't seen this movie for a while. I assumed the wall etc on the end of the bridge was some sort of screen so they could insert a model into it. Quite an undertaking to actually build a wall etc there. BTW: I'm with you, I love these old synths. I have a collection and I love Carpenter and Howarth's stuff. My favorite is H3, but ENY is great as well. ENY may be a dated film by some of today's standards but it has this realistic grittiness to it. The follow up ELA doesn't really have that grit. It's sort of the same difference between T1 and T2. As an artist, I've found that when you have to limitations put on you some of the best work comes out. When you have a bigger budget, bigger toys, things don't tend to turn out the same (or at all).
I wish I knew more about the wall that was built. I agree in that ELA doesn't have the same grit. I have watched that movie a total of one time, when it was first released in the theaters, and I walked away somewhat disappointed. Great observation about limitations and best work. Having limitations brings out necessary creativity.
Thanks. It was my first camcorder that recorded HD video.‘I purchased it while in Japan in 2005 and got a lot of use from it. When I was editing this video, I rendered it in 60fps and with HDR which allows me to mess with the brightness and the enhancement of colors.
Had the ride still be at this park during my visit to Japan this year, I would have totally gone up to the top of the mountain for more rides. The park is still is there but the coasters are gone. While in Osaka in July, I realized I was only about a. half hour from the park. It would have been interesting to see it compared to when I recorded this video in 2005.
Never heard of this theme park before. Thanks for sharing. It looks fun. My main worry is how few people were going to the park. Can they really keep operating this park when only a handful of people are coming each day? It felt like the number of employees in the video was way higher than the number of guests at the park.
Despite the rain closing a few of the rides, we had a great day here. I was fighting the humidity all day so when it decided to rain while we were at the second park, it was welcome. I have been to Japan three times now. With each visit I am amazed at how the parks stay open. Other than some of the larger well-known parks, I have visited dozens of parks in Japan while being one of the very few people inside them. Very strange indeed.
Two things that were quite surprising in the first five minutes. A Pringles vending machine and an indoor coaster. Was the indoor coaster called Ironbull? Digging the Meshuggah jersey Sean. I have a nice copy of "Violent Sleep Of Reason". I really dig it. <> Pyrenees looks like a pretty intense ride. I commend you for sitting out a ride. You have no fear at all and you definitely know your limits. Congratulations on your 1111 credit. Wow. Huge and I mean huge accomplishment. <> Downtown Nagoya looks beautiful. I did not think that Japan got as muggy as it does here in New England at times in the summer. Outstanding footage Sean. Part nine was super fine. On deck for ten~ Rob/Boston
Yep. Ironbull wasn't a great ride. It was rough and had pretty bad restraints. Once and done for me. It was closed in 2005 when I first visited. Meshuggah's latest (Immutable) was an album I listened to on some of the bullet trains rides I took on this trip. Such a well produced and ultra-heavy record. I am actually wearing the album cover shirt that came with my vinyl copy, now, as I type this up. Lol. Yea, I was bummed that Pyrenees gave me a bad ride. If you look closely, you can see my ears are red from the head banging I got while riding. I hope to ride it again someday, in a different seat. I know it can provide great rides.
Pretty much. I had no idea a ride like this existed until I walked up to it. I know people that count this as a coaster after riding it. While it doesn't match up with my coaster definition, it certainly is a very fun ride regardless. I wonder if we will see more of these built.
Well alright. I now have something to watch that much better than any streaming or anything on my local cable lineup. See you this evening Sean~ Rob/Boston
This park should not have been built in the inner city of new orleans. If this park was built north of lake pontratrain, it would most likely still be around today.
@@johnfoltz8183 While this is true, I also didn't count the old Arrow shuttle coaster at Camden Park. I missed the coaster when it operated at Kings Island and missed riding it at Camden by one day. One. It closed for good and never reopened. I ran into someone I knew while at the park who worked in the industry. He was selling the park a small flat ride package. He somehow managed to get the staff to allow us to walk up the stairs and sit in the train for a picture. It's the closest I have to riding the it.
I recently looked back at some of my older photos, when I first started going to the park in the mid 70's. The tallest thing you could see was the Space Spiral. There wasn't any coaster sticking up in the sky. I am glad I am alive during this time as I got to see the park turn into what it is today. Having said that, I believe this is the first season, since the 80's, that I haven't visited the park. No visits this year but hopefully next year.
Thank you for checking out my video. Please take a look at my 2024 tour of Japan, visiting amusement parks all over the country, including Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea. Start the incredible journey by checking out the following playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLKwS_Dkvmwd_jURmeV7bgRxR8-i06vgi5
Ha ha. What a soggy day that was. Even though I wasn't feeling the best, I am glad I went to Legoland. I didn't even record us riding the larger coaster as we rode in a downpour. Fun times!
Love when you give us a glimpse of the various hotels that you stayed in. Man that first one had a lot of floors. But it looked nice and clean. Bandit looked mean but epic. Too bad that Anthony got beat up on it. <> When all four of you give thumbs up for any of the coasters {Space Factory} I make a note of it. I never even heard of it before now. <> Sounds like the Splashing UFO River Rapid let you all enjoy a ride together. You cannot really do that on any coasters because of the seating. But being able to ride four of you at once was very cool. <> Nice to hear that the Dragon Coaster at Legoland was built after the legendary Dragon Coaster at Rye Playland. I loved that mini-city at Legoland. <> Excellent advice at the end. Life is too short. That was a perfect idea to end the day at Nagoya Castle. <> Shouts to Marty, Vince and Anthony. I appreciated their inputs and thumbs ups. Onto part nine. I don't know yet Sean. But this is slowly becoming my favorite Japan series to date. Absolutely fantastic shooting Sean~ Rob/Boston
All the hotels we stayed at on this tour were very clean and comfortable. The rooms got a bit larger as the trip went on. We ended up staying at this first hotel at the end of the trip. The UFO raft ride is incredibly fun to ride. So many surprises and easily the most intense raft ride I have ridden at a park. I think you may be confusing the Dragon coaster at Playland with the Dragon model found at Legoland New York. The Legoland one was built by Vekoma. Fun ride in Japan. Haven't ridden the NY version yet. There is another, larger coaster at Legoland Japan that I didn't record as we rode it in a downpour. Thanks for watching, Rob!
Yes. It’s in the next part. To be honest, I only took one ride on it as I got thrashed. I rode in the second row and got one of the roughest inverted coaster rides I have ever taken. The rest of the group took multiple rides. Pretty bummed I got a bad ride on it as I marathoned on it in 2005.
Lol, didn't realize you caught me aggressively telling my phone to stop focusing on the raindrops at 11:10 😆. Man, I almost didn't remember just how bad the weather got because of how fun the day turned out. I was beyond glad with how receptive the group was to visiting the castle since one of my biggest regrets from my last major international trip was not seeing enough cultural sites; these kinds of days really made the trip stand out for me! Fantastic video as always that really captured the joy of the day (even with you being a bit under the weather). Can't believe you didn't capture any footage of the donkey ride, best ride in Nagoya for sure 🤣!
Oir guteral grows can be heard a few times in these videos. People must think we are insane or something when they hear that. Lol. I agree with you in that days like these were what made the trip. We made the absolute best out of any scenario. I really do wish I could have captured at least one POV of the Donkey ride. It was so emotional. Everyone left laughing or crying. It was well worth the extra cost and I would be happy to pay it again. Why aren’t more of those put in parks in the states? Huge missed opportunity. Don’t parks pay attention to what its hot at IIAPPA anymore. Those rides were the hit of the show and I must have seen sixty videos online hyping up the ride for years. I am just finally glad I got to add the experience to my “ride career” as it was sorely missing. Let’s go back and ride again!
I am so out of the Lego world that I wasn’t aware that Japan had a Legoland until we were starting the trip. It wasn’t part of the original plans. The models are incredible.
We went to Nagashima on a super hot day with no rain and there wasn’t a lot of people at the park. I only rode a couple of things but thought about marathoning a couple coasters but the heat took its toll on me.
It was kind of strange to get used to but once I understood the faucett, it was pretty easy. Didn’t try Onsen. Anthony tried to go in one but they wouldn’t allow him inside once they saw he had a tattoo.
I am sure they will give it another try next year. If that doesn’t work out, then I wouldn’t be surprised if they remove it before 2026. It has to be a nightmare for the park.
Comment Two of two: "The Dolphin brought the thunder". Well said Anthony. Seriously. What an amazing design on Dolphin. Also if I may add. One of the best loading platforms for hyping up the riders. Love the enthusiasm on the workers. <> Wow again Sean. One heck of a shot of Thunder Dolphin. I may be way off base in saying this. But I cannot think of another coaster that was built right in the middle of the city. Another huge nod to the slo-mo footage. Fantastic. Thank you for taking us to some of the best shots of that incredible coaster. <> I forgot/did not remember that you were vegetarian. I stopped eating meat in 2003. Around there anyways. I stopped counting. I tried it in the eighties. Right around the time that Meat is Murder by The Smiths was released. But at that time I was doing it for silly reasons. <> Boy is that city beautiful. The colors alone during the nighttime hours are super. I can tell why you like it so much . Hope you all had a nice meal at Shake Shack. Another stupendous part in the CIJ Series. Thanks Sean~ Rob/Boston
While the workers on Thunder Dolphin are incredibly enthusiastic, the operations on that ride are pretty terrible. It usually takes a long while to dispatch a train. Sometimes over ten minutes. It's a fantastic ride and worth the hassle to ride it, if it's busy. Yep, I have been a vegetation since 1997. I used to get sick from eating meat so I stopped it all. I am not a vegas as I still eat eggs and drink milk. It's more difficult to eat in Japan, being a vegetarian, than it was in 2005. I still managed but it can be hard to find something that doesn't have meat.
Wow. What a nice shot of Regina at the 2:44 mark. <> I appreciate your stance on no visible tattoos aat Tobu. I personally do not understand it. But I guess that I can see their point. Sort of. <> Great to hear that Regina regeemed itself. {smile} Good play on words Sean & Vince. Fantastic slo-mo shots. Really cool to see that Tobu did so many things to make the park better~ Comment one of two~ Rob/Boston
The reason for the tattoo bad is because of the Japanese mafia. A lot of the mafia has tattoos apparently. So by banning tattoos they bad the tattoo wearing mafia. Regina was much better. Still a big rough but kind of the perfect amount of roughness. Still a LOT better than when I rode it in 2005
One of the reasons that Japan bans tattoos in public places is they want to technically ban the Yakuza (mafia) who all have tattoos, so to get round the banning of the Yakuza, they just ban anyone with a Tattoo which then also bans the Yakuza by default. So they just have an outright ban on Tattoos.
I remember reading a sign while visiting Hamanako Pal Pal saying pretty much the same thing about tattoos. Luckily, nobody said anything to me about my tattoos while there. I thought it was a bold sign and wondered if it was true. Sounds like it was.
This was my childhood roller coaster, back in the '80s. It felt rickety and old even back then. When I got older Viper and Dragon Mountain were more on my mind but I'll always think of wildcat as part of my childhood.
