Thank you! I finally found a video to help me get up and down my one 8.5 inch step to my porch, I am totally non weight bearing on my left foot due to tendon implant surgery. I'm using a scooter with ease(cautiously) but that step getting in from my Dr. appts. has stymied me. People were practically having to carry me up and I almost put my foot down last time. I hadn't used my crutches much, due to shoulder rotator and arm muscle surgery 4 months ago. But for this one step, I should be good, my arm is getting much better with therapy. Thank you!
How do you do this without a hand rail as I don't have a hand rail...you would ha e to adjust the legs so they are offset...(front legs lowest setting backless to the highest setting ...back up to the stairs push yourself up and onto the stairs...then do it again...always have someone to assist you...
@@CharlesLasecki, yes, this is a technique that can be used. It usually works best if you have a limited number of steps (1-2), because it can be difficult to get a safe/level adjustment between the front and back legs of the walker depending on the walker height adjustment and step height. Additionally, when backing up the steps, the FRONT legs would be the longer adjustment and the BACK legs would be the shorter adjustment. Hope this helps! AECorner.com
@@ATLGETREADY4ME It looks like a small SUV. What’s the height of the seat from the ground? Are you transferring from a wheelchair? What’s the height of the wheelchair seat from the ground? If you’re transferring from the wheelchair to the Kia car seat will the transfer be an uphill transfer? If so a transfer board may not be the solution.
Thanks for your comment @@AllenTax The Zeen has four caster wheels and is meant to be propelled by standing and walking or pedaling with the feet. If the individual needs more assistance with mobility then they would need a standard wheelchair.
I'd have to see the tremors BEFORE as well as while wearing this to say whether or not it works. This snippet of video doesn't really show anything on its own.
Thank you for engaging with our video, Michele. We appreciate your help with getting our family caregiver support video in front of more eyes 🥰🥰 Christina & Cindy - AECorner.com "Helping people maintain independence and dignity at home!"
Great question, @penniefancies9856! The wrap is waterproof, but the silverware could get messy quickly. Depending on how messy the meal was, the caregiver could wipe it down after each use, but if the wrap needs to be changed out, each roll has 5 yards of wrap. This problem is part and parcel of DIY. Of course, a person could purchase silverware made with built-up, rubberized handles that are dishwasher-safe.
Thank you for engaging with our video! Like all tips and products, they are not meant to be a panacea. Family caregivers and individuals who use walkers deserve to know the options and decide for themselves if it may work for their situation.
Yes! Thank you ladies! I've been a CNA for a long time and I'm the most proud when people are able to get therapy and live well with their independence intact.
I have sm pain and my partner sees it and says I should try a cane but my drs say I’m fine cos I’m young, is it worth putting the money into buying a cane and trying it out or should I just do as my drs say and suck it up and take more pain meds
Here’s a link to a national medical equipment lending closet directory: seniorsmobility.org/free-medical-equipment/near-me-national-programs Tap on your state and see if you have a lending closet near you. Lending closet loan gently used medical equipment for low or no cost, that way you can try it see if it will work for you. If it doesn’t then you can give it back without having to purchase one. Hope this helps 🥰🥰 AECorner.com
I took my dear MIL for a trip. We went to the Outer Banks and stayed a couple of nights at a little motel. Very cute place, down by the ocean, etc. The bed was so high that I secured a chair from the room next to the bed. She had to climb up on the chair and turn around to sit on the bed. This would have helped a great deal. After she was ready for bed, she got in bed, and I turned the chair, so it prevented her from rolling off. To be honest, I had trouble getting into that bed. We giggled like little girls that night.
I went to 2 different PT in 2021 and 2024, both end up giving me the same ole exercises ( for beginners ) and that it was it. never CORRECTED This Waddle Gait.
@@AECorner In my region , my guess is some ( not speaking about all ) doesn't want to tell the patience , the truth or something else going on , that I don't know about . I had a Xray done and tomorrow I'll be going to doctor to see what it might be. If I don't get the answer. My next step will try and get an MRI and take it to my Orthopedic Specialist. All this will take time , because my Orthopedic doctor is booked out for months at least 6 months . Or maybe I can get in earlier. Wait and See .
Our first recommendation would be to get an evaluation from a local physical therapist. Here is a video we made featuring general exercises: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BLTrLOemhkQ.html
@@AECorner I went two PT , in 2021 and 2024 and after 10 weeks each , they sent me home. I have a weakness in my right hip and my left hip drops. I will end up going to an Orthopedic doctor and see what needs to be done.
@@debbiec6216 It sounds like you have a lot of orthopedic issues which typically exacerbate hip weakness due to compensation. Seeing an orthopedist is probably your best bet. Keep us posted 🥰🥰
If you have a family member who is capable of understanding your meds and being an advocate that’s also a good idea because I had a situation when I was in the rehab hospital where they wanted to cath me yet Not discontinue my Detrol. My daughter who knew my meds helped a lot with that situation
Thanks for your question, RoseMarieFlor. As we’re sure you can appreciate everyone is different and without being physically present we can only speak in broad generalities. We’re encouraging people to be evaluated by a local physical therapist who will be able to write a plan of care tailored to help meet people’s specific needs. Check out this video that accompanies the video you commented on: Overcome Weakness: Trendeleburg Gait Exercises: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BLTrLOemhkQ.html Have a great rest of your week. 🥰🥰
But if your weak leg buckles aren't you going to go flying? For example a structure on top of 2 support beams, the one beam buckles and gives way so it topples that way, so the support should be the same side as the weak support beam side acting as a security beam? 🤔
We love that you’re thinking this through however, if a person’s weak leg is so weak that it buckles then a cane might be for them. The person may need more support from devices like crutches or a walker.
Thanks. I was able to get up to my bedroom after surgery but then realized that I was going to have to go back down, It was one of those moments where I thought "Is this a good idea?". Your video helped.
That's a great idea, RiverRoxMusic! Thanks for the suggestion. I'll let the Makers program that printed it for me know. All I had was the self-adhesive tape. It's always my go-to product; not unlike duct tape 🤣
Hi Byron, While turning a doorknob might seem like a simple task, it can be incredibly painful or even impossible for people with weak grips, arthritis, or other hand limitations. These 3D-printed levers offer an assistive technology solution that allows them more independence in their daily lives. Thank you for sparking a conversation about accessibility. Your engagement with our video helps raise awareness of helpful resources like ours.
No, Andrew it’s a 3D printed door knob lever. It helps people who may have a weak, painful grip or decreased hand or wrist dexterity open doors in their homes. Thanks for engaging with our content
So far my doctors after doing xray video blood tests and anxiety medication say nothings wrong with me but I just can’t swallow they keep saying nothings wrong I’m fine but I just literally can’t get past it no matter how much they tell me I’m fine gonna get one more test done then I have a appointment with a dietitian this stuff sucks
So sorry to hear you’re having difficulties getting a diagnosis. But, glad to hear you’re not giving up. That has to be so frustrating. Has anyone mentioned Globus Sensation or Globus Pharyngis? If not it might be worth a Google search.
@@AECorner my symptoms are similar but not exactly the same it’s almost like I’m trying to swallow my tongue and all of literally everything in my mouth but sometimes it feels like i physically literally can’t swallow no matter how hard i try then sometimes it’s like im trying to swallow a big bite of food or it’s completely normal
@@sethmewes161 So it's not about feeling a lump stuck in your throat; it's about being unable to trigger your swallow? Would you consider being evaluated by a neurologist? Would your primary care doc make that referral?
@@sethmewes161 hopefully, they can recommend foods that will help you maintain your caloric intake and nutrition. Asking your primary care doctor for a referral to a neurologist might not be a bad idea; at least rule out any neurological involvement.
