I always wanted to watch this show, but I don't have Paramount+ and it didn't air enough on television. Paramount be treating a lot of their newer cartoons like Warner Bros Discovery
However you found me, I'm glad you did! There's more - possibly too much - Peanuts on the way. And, I like to ask new viewers: what's your "comfort food" cartoon? What's the cartoon you can watch any old time, any old episode?
@@cynicaladult Thanks for the reply. And I'm actually not very sure about having a comfort show though, as I usually spend more time on RU-vid videos of various topics or catching up with other stuff I try to get into rather than revisiting past shows. Don't recall the last time I ever did a full on rewatch of a childhood show. Though I technically can revisit my childhood shows via the occasional YT video about it, mostly early 2000s Cartoon Network and Nick shows. And I do have comfort games, namely the SNES Mario and Donkey Kong games as I do revisit them sometimes. As well as "comfort YT channels" like Emplemon and Summoning Salt which I like to put their past videos as background noise when doing house tasks.
An animated Star Trek universe is definitely the kind of final frontier that Paramount should continue exploring. It has limitless potential. I’m glad that was recognized to some degree anyway!
For so many years it seemed like they were trying to memory-hole the animated series and seemed embarrassed by the *idea* of animation. I'm glad this show and Lower Decks have shown that Star Trek can thrive in animation, and do it with multiple audiences!
I started it once and for some reason I made the mistake of not sticking with it. I picked it up again when season two dropped and when I say I DEVOURED it...
Hey there. Have you heard the dance song the Cha-cha Slide? There's one part of it where Mr. C says "Charlie Brown." Since you know a lot about Peanuts, then do you happen to know what he means by that in the song?
I'd say it depends on the animation, really. New TV animation? Not by a long shot. Best time for rediscovering older animation? Definitely. Best time for independent artists who don't have to conform to a corporation or larger entity? Absolutely, especially on RU-vid, and for the company Angel Studios. Never heard of them? Sound of Freedom studio, but they also made a cartoon called The Wingfeather Saga, that I highly recommend
I mention in my latest video that I think I jinxed it when I said this. This was during the heart of Covid, when studios were forced to rely on the people who are *used* to working in isolation. Since this video, things have swung WAY too far in the wrong direction...
You know something that I think is lacking? Almost nothing on RU-vid in the style of the Rankin-Bass specials that's meant to be original, but still kept the spirit of the old cartoons. The only exception is Springtrapped, a Scooby-Doo and FNAF crossover video meant to look like a Rankin-Bass cartoon. It went viral due to its use of AI, a fact which Gray DeLisle was not pleased with
There's an animator whose channel I can't recommend enough, called Worthikids. He usually works in 2D, but he's done some 3D shorts painstakingly recreating the Rankin-Bass style. This one is a thing of pure beauty: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l-TJm7HkzkQ.htmlsi=ApXao2KGT08LIXo0
I can understand that. When I was real little I used to get freaked out by the intro to the NBC Mystery Movie. It just made me uncomfortable, like something terrible was coming out of the dark, looking for me. Mom and Dad would sit down to watch MacMillan And Wife and I would have to leave the room. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8VI9mUyG_f0.html
I'm sorry this is probably a really dumb question, but why do you keep referencing Dolly Madison, (ps I love this video, watched it months ago and had to watch it again)
@@franknberry333 the short answer is that anyone who grew up watching the specials when they were broadcast, like I did, is conditioned to expect to see commercials for Dolly Madison. When I get together with friends to watch A Charlie Brown Christmas, “buy Dolly Madison” is what we all say during the commercial breaks. Now that that silly explanation is out of the way…thank you for the repeat viewing!
I am a huge Peanuts fan so it has been my mission to gain as much information about the incredible world of Peanuts. So for a while was friends with Jerry Granelli, I travelled to Sebestapol to see the world of Charles Schulz and I have been talking to Ms Jean Schulz. I find it very important to keep Peanuts alive because they are a big piece of history that we are slowly loosing.
Wow, that is seriously impressive! From everything I've seen of Jean Schulz, she seems like an absolutely delightful human being and her positive influence on Charles Schulz is clear. It would be amazing to get to talk to her on the channel!
It's funny learning about all this on your channel. You are becoming a "Snoopy Expert" man. If you ever look at the games these characters were in, I could help fill in some details like the long-running Snoopy Town Tales. Great video.
Thank you! I haven't gone nearly as deep down the Peanuts video game rabbit hole (yet), but I highly recommend this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RPAKUx2dZ_0.html
Really loved this theory. Your editing is great too! As a Bob’s Burgers fan myself, I find it difficult to find a lot of videos analysing the show and it upsets me because this is probably one of those series I hold deeply in my heart and not many people are interested or know this beloved show. I would definitely like to see more Bob’s burgers related content from you in the future! In the meantime, I’m definitely gonna watch a few of your other videos.
Thank you! As an editor by trade, comments like that really warm my heart ❤ I've got more Bob's Burgers in the works, but in the meantime, I can't recommend Ter's Trippy TV enough. www.youtube.com/@TersTrippyTV She's done quite a few Bob's Burgers videos, really getting into the characters and their dynamics. It's been a couple of months since her last one but I really hope she has more on the way!
There was a lot of stuff in the 70s and 80s that you wouldn't expect there to be merch for. I still have some Mork & Mindy trading cards, and a couple of years ago I found a Barney Miller board game at a yard sale.
@cynicaladult I don't want that ither but I like the theory. If it's true he is sending the cards he might be sending the various cards because it's too expensive
Teddy is a character I want to strangle so bad. I originally felt bad for him, but so many of his comments and actions have made my hair stand on end in a bad way. “Driving Big Dummy” finally drove me to fully rage when I see him. But I wouldn’t have the show without him. Gayle is worse.
The show is full of characters I would want nothing to do with in real life, but that's part of the appeal. The comedy is the appeal, but there are some really accurate portrayals of different family dynamics. you can really see how Linda's and Gayle's personalities were shaped by being raised by Al and Gloria, the way you can see how much of Bob's was shaped by Big Bob - and you can see which parts of Bob and Linda are passed on to the kids in various ways.
Just imagine this you moved into a new neighborhood and the second you head to your local pumpkin patch a kid comes out and says… “It’s the great pumpkin”
I think an adult works; a big part of the appeal of the specials is the kids talking about adult subjects in these child voices. Snoopy has been described as "the true child in a world of ersatz adults," so there's the fun of flipping the script, hearing an adult talk like a child. You know who I would love to hear voice Snoopy? Matt Berry.
I had a Peanuts (and Dale Earnhardt Sr.) themed wedding. On the top tier of the cake was Snoopy and Bell dressed as groom and bride. I took two Snoopy figurines added a top hat and a veil with flowers. On the bottom tier was a Dale Sr car. My cousin designed our invitations and surprisingly turned out well. After the service, we walked out to Lucy and Linus and it was played as our grand march. I had a beautiful and fun wedding! The only thing wrong was the groom. I had a great wedding though! 🙂
this really started to make me think deeper about bobs burgers and it really made me think what more there is to this show (Love the video and how you edited it)
I'm convinced, since Ronaldo has an annoying habit of being accidentally right, that Yellowtail is a Snerson - a Snake Person, from a Snivilization that's been at war with the Gempire. They heard that a group of Gems on Earth had successfully rebelled against the Diamonds, so they sent Yellowtail to try to ingratiate himself with the Crystal Gems and help them convince the Diamonds to stop the war. But what he didn't count on...was falling in love.
Something about Bob’s Burgers that I love are the callbacks to past episodes, it feel likes it makes the older episodes canonical. Imagine making a whole tree of all the callbacks and references to older episodes
Now it can be told: this entire video came about because I paused during the "his name is Bob Burger" scene and got the image in the thumbnail, and it made me think of the meme. Not actually, but wouldn't that be weird?
ive never seen your channel before and im impressed by how much work you put into editing this and presumably your other videos. really good stuff! well said too
Well done my only complaint is now I want a deep dive into so many different Bob's deep dives. One of my own faves is the kids creating a fake ocean religion to escape taxes only for the auditor to fall in love with the fake religion - kills me all the way through
I think the setup is there and whether it occurs can make or break bobs - they live in a crazy infinite year with 12 Christmases where the kids never age (I know there are Canon explanations for all that) but idk if bobs could survive the kids really aging so I'm of two minds about character growth
@@Soudrah I don't think it'll ever happen on the show, for the simple reason that the current status quo allows for the kids to all be in school together, which makes it easier to get them together for stories. That said, there could be a time jump if the show is ever canceled and revived, like how the upcoming King Of The Hill reboot has a 21 year old Bobby working as a chef at a fusion restaurant in Austin. Which is *perfect*. As for Gene, I can absolutely see it. I have to confess, I think I'm just too cishet to recognize when a character is trans-coded without having it pointed out to me (see my previous comments re: Lake in Infinity Train), but I've seen enough people talk about Gene as an egg waiting to be cracked that I fully accept it. It's also a common trait of autism to not care much for "performing" gender. Gene is more interested in being part of whatever's happening with his sisters than in pulling their pigtails or whatever "large brothers" are supposed to do 😅
@@Soudrah Also: on the subject of animated sitcoms and the "infinite year," have you seen the unused ending for King Of The Hill? One of my favorite channels did a video about that and it's hilarious: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DWWifnmvxag.htmlsi=LHqr5ol07Spbntt8
Technically it's a fan theory in that Gene has never outright said anything about being trans. But he calls himself a girl and Bob's daughter pretty often, has been part of a girl group (but didn't audition for the boy band), etc. I doubt the show will ever look at it with any seriousness because Gene is eternally eleven. But there's no way in hell the writers aren't doing it with some kind of knowledge of the implications, and they must be fine with it because they keep doing it. (Jon Benjamin is on record as saying he hopes Gene is gay, but he'd rather they not address it so he doesn't have to record an episode where Bob walks in on Gene and Jimmy Jr.) He's also only been show in relationships with and having crushes on girls (and one manatee puppet), but every time someone mentions gossiping about boys they like, he seems eager to join in. So who knows? We probably never will. I just assume Gene is genderfluid/pangender and bisexual/romantic. But there's no canon. I instead just enjoy the knowledge that whatever he identifies as, no one in his family (and probably no one in his peer group; I can't imagine, say, Zeke, Rudy or Courtney having a problem with it; at most Tina's friends might find it weird but I doubt they'd be rude or hateful about it, just annoyed at having to track Gene's fluctuating pronouns daily or whatever) will care a bit beyond some well-intentioned confusion.
@@tinkerhell-kj3mv I'm kind of afraid there will never be a definitive answer, not because of the show's creators but because they're on an American TV network at a time when all sorts of hideously evil lies are being propagated about "transing kids." But I absolutely agree that Gene is genderfluid, at the very least.
I think Teddy is probably neurodivergent to some degree, and he takes comfort in the idea of Bob's last name being Burgers, even though he now knows it's not. He probably made the mistake early on, grew used to it, had the idea reinforced by Fischoeder, and now it's firmly entrenched in his psyche. It seems like it bothers him a lot to acknowledge Bob's true, far inferior last name. But then again I never really thought about it til just now, so what do I know 😅 BTW, I see you put a ton of work into this video, and it shows. Looks great!
Interesting thought! I also have to wonder what kind of childhood Teddy had - self-esteem that low doesn't come out of nowhere. This is a guy who says the greatest day of his life was the day his dad high-fived him. Plus, look at how he stands. People who had good childhoods don't stand like that.
@@cynicaladult Yeah I always feel for Teddy. He has an existential crisis every time Bob's isn't open when he expects it to be. I haven't really rewatched the show a lot so I can't remember if that manifested in other situations, or if it's strictly a thing with Bob's family. I say family because Teddy also seems to have a bit too much interest in Linda IIRC, having occasionally muttered some questionable things to her. That's probably to do with her being a woman that talks to him and treats him with respect, and relies on him to some degree. He reminds me a bit of Bill from King of the Hill, but somehow darker yet LESS sinister. Don't ask me to explain, I've just always got slightly dangerous vibes from Bill. It'd be nice after all these seasons if we had an episode or two that really dug down into Teddy's life, past and present. Unless they have and I don't remember. I can totally picture him going home at night, sitting at the kitchen table and staring endlessly at the wall until it's time to sleep, just waiting to get up so he can interact with the Burgers again.
@@ghostnote-6 We've gotten drips and drabs about Teddy's life; we know he used to be in better shape, and about his time in the Navy, and about some of the terrible ways Denise used to treat him before finally leaving him. I think the Bill comparisons are apt, especially with Greg Daniels as EP of BB and KotH; though I'm *slightly* more hopeful about Teddy being able to make positive changes. And I want to see more of Teddy with Kathleen!
There's a bobs burgers a mile from my house, when I went in it was more like a red Robin's. I like red robins but honestly I've never been more disappointed. I knew it wasn't like the show but... I wanted to believe lol
There's a "Bob's Burgers & Brews" in Washington. Fortunately the one time I went there was before Bob's Burgers existed, so I wasn't setting myself up for disappointment. If I'm in a different town and looking for a place to eat, Bob's is the baseline for the kind of place I'm looking for. Which I suppose is kind of *also* setting myself up for disappointment...
There's no reason I can think of why I didn't watch the Christmas special when it aired, but I remember nothing. It's possible I did and my 8-year old mind rejected it. To date I haven't watched more than 20 unbroken minutes before tapping out. On a completely different note, 22:13 totally looks like a Heavy Metal reference, So Beautiful So Dangerous.
Honestly, you probably wouldn't be the first person to block out memories of that 😅 That Heavy Metal vibe jumped out at me too! I had to check whether Nelvana had contributed to Heavy Metal - they were approached, but chose instead to work on Rock & Rule, which is not dissimilar. That early-80s combo of stylized animation and hard rock stimulates my Pink Floyd cortex!
Honestly, i always assumed Jack Skellington was the Great Pumpkin. Think about it, Linus said he flies through the air bringing toys. What did Jack do? Fly through the air, dropping toys (granted horrific "toys") . And he only did it once. Which explains why he never showed up again. And Jack's official title IS The Pumpkin King. It all makes sense to me🤷🏿♀️
If you want to collaborate with another RU-vidr, I know of the perfect one: a channel called "@ItsTheGooseItsTheGoose ", whose whole channel is mostly about cartoons, and mostly obscure ones at that, with a few exceptions, including Charlie Brown. In fact, one of his most recent videos was about the special "Why Charlie Brown, Why?", and he also reviewed "Snoopy Come Home "
I've been learning about that! The last time I went to Knottsberry farm was *before* they had Camp Snoopy. It's been so long, I don't even remember what a Knottsberry tastes like! 😅
It's interesting that most of the adult sightings were in Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown, which seems sensible due to its nature as a travel film. By Dolley Madison.
That's an interesting thought! The chateau, the town, and the pub where Snoopy goes were all places Schulz saw during the war - despite starring a bunch of 8 year olds and a beagle, there is kind of a sense of aging to it.
If I can make animated shows and movies, they would be very deeply complicated and controversial stories below the surface well being very bouncy bright and happy on the surface. I want to make unlikable protagonists who have to fight to be who they are even if people aren't happy with what they are I want to make realistic protagonist that you have to relate to but through doing things with you find that they have likeable qualities
You might as well be a celebrity at this point. Any possibility of a Cam Clarke interview? After all, he wasn't the first voice of Snoopy, but he voiced him the longest
I would love, love love to get to talk to Cam Clarke, both about Snoopy and the rest of his illustrious career. I've been doing a lot of reading about him as part of my research, and he's a fascinating character. I highly recommend his album, Inside Out. Thank you for the compliment, very a lot!
That's one thing I'll give modern-day Peanuts credit for. Even after Franklin, Schulz seemed hesitant to add more POC characters, but in the modern stuff you see a lot more of them. Glad you're enjoying the channel! I appreciate a fellow Disneyland lover!
