Hey Cynics, coupla things to let you know about. First, I apologize for the poor video quality. When I saw how this take came out, I did a second take, where the video was much better...but the audio sounded terrible. Since you hear me more than you see me, I went with the better audio quality. Second, I had really hoped to release this video during Black History Month, and preferably within a few days of Welcome Home, Franklin's premiere. I have an excuse for missing that deadline, which is that...my Dad died. Of course that meant all the logistical hurdles, having to drop everything and fly to Nebraska, all that. But also it meant that there were times that I just...couldn't. We had a complicated relationship; he was a squared-away Air Force veteran. I was a kid with undiagnosed autism and ADHD. He loved airplane engines. I loved cartoons. I had big feelings. He came from a time and culture where *any* kind of feelings were a sign of weakness. Which is the most unfortunate part, because the older I got, the more of my parents backstories I became privy to, the more I learned what they had had to go through, and the more I understood what had made them the people they were. All of which is a lot to have on one's mind while also trying to research the history of a cartoon character. So, thanks again for your patience, sorry again for the video quality, and again, BUY DOLLY MADISON
The truly subversive part about the ending is that Snoopy helps with the "sham" dinner, when all along, he had a perfectly fine Thanksgiving dinner under the table, waiting for everyone to leave!
I really loved the new Franklin special, and it might actually be in my top 5 Peanuts specials now. It's funny, sweet, beautifully animated, and has a great soundtrack, 10/10
One thing I'd love to see is more cartoonists, particularly ones who had been mentored by Schulz, be part of the creative teams. I feel like Armstrong had a good sense of the comic-strip pacing of Peanuts. And yeah, well-chosen songs!
Me too - it's such an education! I highly recommend the commentary tracks on Pixar films - you can tell the directors are so excited to get to talk about their creative process!
Wow, thank you! I don't know if I'll ever have another perfect storm like with the first Peanuts video, but the channel is still growing steadily, thanks to support like yours!
I have high hopes for it - I've always enjoyed Armstrong's work on Jump Start, and I do like how the Apple specials are spotlighting different characters.
I've discovered that the original Patty is really off most peoples' radar. if I just say "Patty," a lot of people assume I'm talking about *Peppermint* Patty, so it's important to make the distinction. Would "Plain Patty" be better?
I loved Jumpstart as a kid. It got translated into the Danish Beetle Bailey magazine as "To på tredje", or "The Pair on the third floor". I especially liked Joe's crotchety Dad. ("He wasn't singing beautifully in the church choir, he was just trying to sing louder than the rest!") And them trying to play their new baby cool and keep it a secret, only for Joe's parents to open the door and they both scream "WE'RE PREGNANT!!" Fantastic stuff.
I hadn't read Jump Start in years, until I was researching this video, and I was amazed how much of it came flooding back! I had forgotten about fun details like Joe's dad going on about "Ozark Ike."
That's one thing I'll give modern-day Peanuts credit for. Even after Franklin, Schulz seemed hesitant to add more POC characters, but in the modern stuff you see a lot more of them. Glad you're enjoying the channel! I appreciate a fellow Disneyland lover!
Why does everyone always think that birds eating other birds is cannibalism? Woodstock is like a canary or something, probably not a turkey. People eat other mammals all the time and nobody cries cannibalism. Vegans have other objections, but it's not usually about cannibalism.
Meanwhile, people seem to ignore or forget the fact that Donald Duck and his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie have eaten turkey, a game bird very similar to duck, in some of their short films.
Sir, you do have a color. You're quite pink. And also blurry. Please purchase a better camera. No matter. Glad to see you back (no matter how out of focus).
