you guys are funny saying that there was something done wrong. the effectiveness is number one in combat field, every single human has his own qualities , his style. this Chinese man is the top level master. and he knows a lot of more than just wingchun and jkd. his technical and spiritual level is amazingly high. and btw jkd aint a style it's a concept to apply in mma.
@m249joe So what? If it works for them, that's fine. There are pros and cons to using belts. The best pro is that they kindof keep your kimono from falling.
JKD? I don't see any JKD principles/concepts there...the guy fights pretty well because he's got stamina, but it's far from being called a JKD fighter. JKD is not the same as throwing in any kind of techniques you want at any time...THERE ARE principles, not rules or standards, but principles that will make combat efficient JKD-wise. When JKD is put in the ring, then it is no longer JKD.
@Germanicus79 A Yo dude, How much force does it take to knock someone out, when hit right on the "button"? Not much! It takes exact timing & correct placement(chin or temple). I once saw a little kid drop a grown reff in contact fight by accident. Speed, plus mass, equals power. Just a little science. peace!
Bruce Lee paved the way for a lot of the developments u obviously take 4 granted, like MMA. JKDers like Paul Vunak introduced Brazilian Jiu JItsu to a brighter audience already in 1989, four years before the UFC. It is always easy to mock those that came before, as their stuff was always the less effective. The guys in this vid however just seem to flail at each other. I see no Muay Thai, nor do I see any of the more sophisticated JKD stuff like Larry Hartsells Clinch work. And no grappling.
jkd is street fighting. using the most simple way to take your opponent down, even if it looks bad. mma fighters shouldnt be downing bruce lee, he was combing martial arts way before the world mix martial art even was thought up.
dude... K-1, enough said. though i must admit the form could do with a bit of work. dont take it the wrong way, but youd be surprised how far proper form and technique can take you
While Muay Thai is particularly effective in the clinch (Bruce Lee himself incorporated Thai clinch work into JKD), it doesn't have the footwork, directness, quickness and efficiency that JKD does in the kicking and punching ranges. I mean SEE for yourself. Many MT and/or MMA fighters just seem to have no idea that studying JKD could do phenomenal things for their stand-up game. In many ways, it remains the best kept secret in martial arts.
First time I saw this video I said to myself, " This looks like a terrible Pak Sao drill." Than I learned what Kwon Bop was. Good stuff. Keep training folks.
JKD is more about incorporating and exploring every art possible and liek bruce lee said, not copy the style, technique or even moves, but their 'essence'. I'm sure this is just part of these JKD practioner' training. If you watch the rest of the clips of the channel u will see there are many more aspects of fighting explored. This is just part of it. Open up your mind and learn all you can. No restrictions/ boundaries.
No,Those kicks that Bruce Use in his movies,The jump kicks and spin kicks.Bruce preach simplicity, effiency and directness. You should read more and find a teacher.
Well it a system, its Bruce's system, but he didnt wanted it to have no bounds, but obey several key principals. One such example being, ending the fight in the shortest time possible. When two guys throw 30 punches at each other and neither is down, something is wrong.
let me pose a question: what exactly is JKD??? Is it not simply a collection of what works for you?? When you say "ther is no JKD" it seems to me that you are looking for a specific system rather than what JKD really is. Do you or have you ever studied JKD? If you did then you would know that different people with different attributes will fight differently and thus their JKD will be quite different. Peace.
