Hi there! I write about DIY projects, houseplants, and gardening at bybrittanygoldwyn.com. I just started making videos and am excited to share them with a new audience!
PLEASE HELP when monstera is soil what is the best fertilizer, how often do I use it, should I use seaweed fertilizer as well and can I mix them together, seen great things about seaweed! I'm confused
I finished a project I had been putting off for months, and now I'm rewarding myself by going to my favorite local nursery. I hope to find a mature Lemon-Lime Philodendron that I made the perfect spot for. If not that one, then a Micans. I already have a Brasil. Wish me luck!
@@ByBrittanyG I did, and rewarded myself abundantly! I got the Philodendron Lemon I went for...and then I saw a big Silver Stripe all by its lonesome self...I couldn't leave her there. She came home with me!
Wow! I’d be sooo happy to have my three little hoyas look like yours ❤️❤️ Question? I have 3 like I said small 2 inch pots and I want to combine mine.. I have one that has a stem like the one you showed.. should I trim it back or leave it until it grows bigger? Also I have 2 that are potted in a moss and pebbles how do I go about removing and potting all together? Remove all the substrate to bare roots and plant? Thank you for your awesome video! You have a new subscriber 🥰
Hi! You could combine them all now and trim once they are combined or trim and wait. Personally I'd combine now and trim to let them get settled. As for removing the moss and pebbles, I'd soak the substrate and then gentle pick it all off from the roots. Then combine into one pot with a fresh substrate :)
I just wing it! lol. Whenever I notice a stem that has a bare node where a leaf should be, I snip that off. Or if I notice that the leaves are a bit smaller than I'd like, I'll trim and adjust the lighting :)
9:48 may 9th I live in Nebraska and I fell in love with these flowers a couple of years ago when I purchased my home. Long story short do the seeds survive over the winter we have subzero temps at times. If I harvest the seeds in the spring are they good to go or no? Thnks first time seeing you and learned alot and hit that subscribe button 😂
Hi! There's always a chance some seeds can drop and overwinter in the ground, but I wouldn't leave them on the plant all winter. I'd harvest in the fall when the pods are ready. That said, if you have seeds to harvest, I'd try to plant them and see what happens! Remember to nick and soak the seeds first!
I didn't use fertilize for years, instead I mixed concentrated Liqui-Dirt into my watering can once a month! I now use Fox Farm Grow Big fertilizer roughly once a month in the spring and summer. The key to fast growth and bigger leaves is plenty of bright indirect light, I'd say.
It absolutely does grow :) I find scindapsus in general to be pretty slow growing, though. It likes lots of humidity, so like to pop mine outside in a shaded area for the spring and summer since it gets super humid where I live!
I know this video is old but I’m hoping to you happen out. I would love to do a family tree with wood. Is it possible to see you do that ? I’m a first timer
Great info! I had a bunch of questions rolling around, keeping me from getting started and you answered them all. I think I'll compromise by doing black geometric designs with lots of negative space so I keep as much of the moisture-wicking properties of the terracotta. Thanks!!
It's gotta be several years old. I got it from the initial crop of Thai constellations Costa Farms did during test runs several years ago, and it was big when I got it.
My mom had that plant for over 30 years and it never bloomed she didn’t know it could And then one day we smelled chocolate in the living room She moved it to a south facing window.. must of been just the random change 🤷🏻♀️
mine hates me, it's turning yellow and the leaves are curling yet soil was dry.. I watered it and it only progresses further towards death :( It's in a well draining soil mix but I'm thinking of switching to a cactus soil (with sand)??
I find that if I underwater mine, the leaves closest to the base of the soil (the oldest leaves) will yellow and die off. And all of the leaves will curl a bit. I will say that if you're transitioning from winter to spring like I am, this can be a REALLY tricky time of year for houseplants. I find I have to adjust their watering as the days get longer and the temps rise!
I just got the same sprayer. Went to home depot to get stain for my cedar fence and some white paint to paint a kitchen drawer and a door. I asked them if I had to thin down ether paint or stain and they said no. Lol. So I don't know the ratio of thining stain and paint in wagner container? Also do u guys think I should use a clear stain to stain my other house fence which is red wood??
It truly depends. My non-variegated one took forever to bloom and was very large. But my variegated rope plant bloomed when it was only in a 6-inch pot. I have found my hoya bloom times are all over the place.
The ZZ Raven you don’t have to water this plant much at all. If you’re the type that likes to water your plants then only give this plant 2 tablespoons of water one a week that’s all you need . I made the mistake of watering it and the excess moisture in the soil killed the plant the roots had rotted from the water. This plant is very similar to a cactus plant
Hello DYI goddess! I love your blog... I peruse for hours thru your plant guides...so happy to see ya on da tube..... Please stay for awhile. 😊 Cheers!
I inherited my mother's 60+ year old hoya. As far as I know, it has only bloomed twice. I have had it in my west facing window for about 5 months. I am just now seeing some new leaves coming out. I don't know what Mom did or didn't do with it. I am hoping I can get it to bloom. Since it pretty much never bloomed for her, she had a photo of the original bloom stuck into the leaves of the plant! I don't want to repot it quite yet, so I will wait for a few more months.
