Larnell’s hand foot coordination is to die for. You can see how he musically thinks in bars when he’s going off away from the hi-hat, his drumming is extraordinary, but it always makes sense
I have a problem with this piece. ITS TOO DAMN SHORT! I love the feel and atmosphere you created here. Many thank for all the effort you (and your team) put in :) You're a legend!
Three things everyone should know about Larnell. Thing one: He gets the best kick drum tone I've ever heard with a felt beater. Thing two: He plays a rented drum kit like he's owned it since high school. Thing three: he's the coolest cat you've ever met. A died in the wool professional. Larnell Lewis, please come back to Ottawa Jazz festival any chance you get. You are a true pleasure to work with. All the best to you.
I just got to know him as he helped Snarky Puppy with "We like it here". So much power paired with sensitivity, being in the moment and in touch with the other musicians. Wow, deeply impressed!
I keep coming back to this masterpiece, the years of experience shown in just one video is absolutely mind blowing. There is drumming and then there is Larnell. I really hope we will get many more interviews from him or podcasts where I can just maybe grasp some of his knowledge and music theory and how his mind functions in this type of enviroment. Keep it up Larnell I hope these nice words reach you someday.
A perfect no-nonsense song that is shouting: "Here I am, and you better believe it!". That is what the lead guitar and the drums say (to my ears)! 😀 Love it, its delicious. So an alternative title for this song I propose is: "You better believe it!" ;-)
Good composer too, Larnell Lewis ! I love the track. Not just a superficial composition to show of the drummer's capabilities, but a soulful, warm and musically rich and delicious song.
