The mistake casting directors make when adapting a musical to screen, is that they feel the need to always cast a name. Les Miserables was a perfect example of that…Russell Crowe is a great actor, but he can’t really sing. I’m not going to judge Ariana yet. At least she’s a singer.
No, there are not better glindas than her. Kristin Chenoweth (the OG glinda) said ariana was the best choice for the role. And this video is highly disrespectful
I was so excited when they announced Wicked as a movie.....then they cast Ariana Grande and now I probably wont see it. I'm not a fan of hers but I can at least say sure, I get it, shes talented. That doesnt make her the right casting choice for the role. I don't even think she was the right choice for Penny in Hairspray. She was great in 13 but this is just stunt casting gone wrong.
If you have ever worked in a large factory the robots and machines play different chimes and tunes all day. They play all at once, out of sequence, different keys, different tempos, just minding numbing. You hear them as you fall asleep every night.
I would like to add something to this video. You shouldn’t sing these songs in general, not because they’re hard, but because they’re overdone (like corner of the sky) or they’re too iconic, like phantom of the opera and wicked. You should be doing songs like you said, if they show off your voice well, and you can show character, but also if they aren’t overdone. I can guarantee you that if you are a man singing luck be a lady from guys and dolls at a really big day-long or multi-day audition, you will be one of the thirty people to sing it, and casting director’s will overlook you entirely. Instead, either choose lesser-known songs, or put a twist on a popular song. If you can sing Defying Gravity as a baritone fully in your chest voice, or if you’re a woman singing luck be a lady, odds are that’s something that’s never been seen by the casting director’s and you might have a good shot at getting booked, IF THOSE TWISTS FIT THE CHARACTER YOU’RE AUDITIONING FOR.
This is great. I cover a lot of classic rock and pop tunes and I’ve never been good at creating charts. I can read them just fine and I play with several cats that create fantastic charts. My documentation tends to be more like visual cues, reminders, basic song forms, sometimes just the key. Certainly nothing I’d put in front of anyone else. That would be cruel. So, my goal is to learn better chart creation by going through my catalog and updating it. There are some very helpful tips in this vid. Well done. Bookmarked!
The opening is the most dated-sounding number in the show (other than the optional Tick Tock Dance). Almost sounds like Burt Bacharach. That said, few things capture NYC in 1970 quite like the OBC recording of this piece.
Brilliant list! Another recommendation would be Tell me it’s not true from Blood Brothers: especially for the contraltos. Her lowest note is an F3 (mezzos will struggle with this and altos might be a bit tight but for contraltos it’s a perfect low note) and her highest is C5 (might be a bit high for some contraltos but it’s lower than the majority of female songs)
You are beyond adorable in this vid. You're saying it... But we have all thought it Our eyes also widened in reaction to the strain of the situation... The next time that song starts up and you leave the room in a huff shouting "no, nope not this time!" and retreat to a quiet spot where you play music you like on a shockingly loud volume until you have forgotten about the happy birthday song intrusion
I’ll never forget the first time I ever saw Wicked onstage. I had no knowledge of the show except for Popular and One Short Day. As soon as that first chord hit and the dragon started moving I was like ohhh snap. I’ve been hooked. I’ve seen it 8 times and I still get chills. I have my concerns about the movie but I hope I don’t have a reason to be worried
Dear, Ariana said she trained really hard for the wicked film to sing the opera stuff. She said cuz Glinda is a soprano and she also is and even if she can hit it, it's a different placement in Glinda's voice. I know she will nail it
