My name is Momo and i'm a content creator focused primarily on the video game Final Fantasy XIV. We also delve into other games from time to time to do speed runs or challenge runs. I strive to help other players improve their gameplay by providing as many tools & tips in my stream and videos!
I main Scholar at the moment but I am comfortable playing all melee/healer jobs at the highest level. As for what I alt - I pretty much alt whatever I feel like playing at that moment. I generally never stay a certain job as I play whatever is meta, which has the possibility to change every patch.
My only characters are Momo Sama, Co Healer and Push Buttons on Sargatanas on the Aether data center.
Hey momo, I just got my first extreme clear in ff14 on ex1 as sage, but I’m gonna be honest it felt like I got carried, I know the mechanics but I always feel like I’m out of cooldowns and not making the most of them when I do have them. When I played with friends they said they always felt they were taking more damage then they should, I thought if I could get the clear by then I’d have a better idea on what to use when, but I still feel as clueless and out of mana and cooldowns as ever. Using ex 1 as an example are there any pointers you can give me for sage that I can incorporate into my prog for future clears?
I really like the cards. I hated the solar, lunar and celestial sigil mechanic from ShB and EnW. I get probably from a meta perspective having every card be a "put this on the dnc partner" card made it simpler, but having some of the cards be the AST personal resource again feels better to me. Bonus points, the same target can have more than one card effect on a themselves now without it overwriting another card effect. It makes the cards less stressful for when I found myself paired with another AST for whatever reason. But I'm surprise there's more negativity towards the cards now that they removed rng and gave each card a different effect.
Having used it now, and seen the recent improvements, I hate the new card system. I hate it so much. I do not like how we just... hold our DPS cards to use back to back. The rest of cards are useful, but they are not particularly impactful, and none of the cards feel connected to anything else we do. I like so much about this job, but they cannot get a card system that feels good.
Honestly I like the idea of being to heal through attacking as a sage but never felt it was that good on its own. However on my scholar, if I set up my shields just right I felt alot safer attacking compared to sage but that's just me. Been playing scholar since heavensward so maybe I'm biased😂
I just wanted to come back here and say this video has become my go to resource when teaching new sages every time I have a player ask me how to play sage I send this to them and it unlocked another talented healer thank you for this its perfect
A lot of people seem to forget or completely overlook the new Eukrasian Dyskrasia. It's at least a very welcome new tool in dungeons on trash pulls, where Sage can sometime struggle keeping a tank up that is poorly geared or doesn't use their own mitigation properly.
I actually disagree. I forgot to bring it up in this video but it almost felt completely useless when leveling since you should be multi dotting on the way between each pack and by the time you end up reaching the end of a pull everything is generally dotted and by the time you need to refresh it's almost not worth using it unless you have really slow DPS. I only actually even found myself using this skill more often once I reached the expert dungeons because the leveling dungeons have such small amounts of mobs per pack. Maybe it feels better in the lower level dungeons though.
10 years playing this game, and not this time, it feels that they really love to get rid of the Fun of each class for the sake of the stupid balance, instead of making each class feel unique to play, they make them so monotonous that it feels like dogshit, you don't feel unique except for astrologian.
You've mentioned before the Astro doesn't feel like Astro anymore. I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on that? I started leveling AST in late Endwalker before the changes. I've read up on the old abilities astrologian use to have. Dinurnal/Nocturnal Sect, the old card system, Royal Road and Time Dilation. But it feels like there's some other aspect I'm missing regarding old AST.
Its the rng thats missing the fantasy of astro was always calling upon the fates to grant you cards and dealing/playing through what fate gives you for better or worse with new astro the rng is gone you always know what your getting so decisions based upon fates whims are gone.
@@blackhat958people said the same thing about endwalker ast tbh. It was rng but its just 2 cards so its whatever. Stormblood ast is what people loved a lot. Just impossible to balance which is why it hasnt come back.
honestly as a scholar main, while seraphism is better, i like sage's lv 100 skill more. why? Because unlike seraphism, sage can continue with the same gameplay pattern of attacking with gcds and healing with ogcds. The whole kit of both sage and scholar is meant so you almost never need to use a gcd to heal, and instead weave your healings between your damage skills, specially sage, and now while in seraphism i need to choose between dpsing or healing, meanwhile sage will be doing both.
As a sage main, both in-game and irl (I'm a doctor), I'm feeling kinda lukewarm on these changes, but I can't say I'm disappointed. Didn't expect anything massive, and that's... kinda how it ended. Welp. Here's to 8.0? lol.
Sure, in low optimization environments you'll likely not get the maximum potency of Philosophia, but at the same time in those exact same low-optimization environments people are likely taking more damage than necessary from mistakes, underutilized mitigation, or taking longer to kill trash due to low DPS. So frankly, in that sense it pretty much cancels it out. You'll probably find more use out of it in Duty Finder than you will in mid-optimization environments like when you first start progging a fight.
I'm ok if I get downvoted for this. I'm re-learn Scholar again, coming from Astrologian play in EW. This overview is not for inexperienced scholar players. I know I'm getting older but your explanation was so fast, I had to re-listen again just to understand what was being said. I even got a headache just trying to make sense what was being noted. Maybe more visual of what spells work with each other, and slower explanations is my suggestion. I'm sorry, old man complaints.
I actually like that certain scholar things lock you out of other things. Makes them feel like a tactitian just like gow their job lore says they are. If there is any change id likem assuming no buttons can be added or removed. Its that id love it if energy drain got a potency boost. Make it 150, heck id even take 120.
Sigh I am so upset sage got like nothing but se gives sch more broken stuff.... jesus I swear its the only healer they care about, watch now no one wants a sage in ex/savages/ultimates.
I don't disagree with any point that you've made regarding Philosophia, but personally I love it. Found two places in EX1 that it really shined for me.
I was looking at Philosophia trying to decide where it'd be most useful and it occurred to me. If I had it during HH on P10S that mechanic would have been far easier to get through. I think it's probably been designed with that specific kind of mechanic in mind tbh. The 3rd trial also appeared to have something that'll probably be HH in EX3 so I'm looking forward to it.
@leemontime I know, but allowing us to proactively consume the stacks for a large heal early would be really beneficial while also letting us use a button we never use.
I was looking forward to this and fully agree. I saw Philosophia and said "wait.. what? why?" I kind of genuinely hate it? It's thematic, funny because "WOW AOE KARDIA!!!", but like.. you can do anything you would want from this skill normally in SGE's kit? It's another big regen. Pneuma has burst healing covered and we have a million ways to slow burn HP bars back up. Hoping content shows up that really makes this button worth caring about more.
What do you think of WHM? So far it’s the worst healer in terms of DPS contribution, pure healing and mitigation healing as has the weakest tool for any situation the game can throw at you. I’m really curious what your take is on them.
I'd like them to add another way to generate addersting stacks that doesn't work off gcd heals. They feel really inconsistent, gcd heals are a last resort for me and it feels like being punished.
I like to think of Philosophia as an equivalent to WHM's planery Indulgence that you can also utilize with gcd dmg skills, I just wish that you could use soteria on it. It's very effective in fights with heal checks like e12s terminal relativity or p8s (final mech, forgot the name)
I thought I would enjoy new ast as someone who played it a lot in EW but i really dont vibe with some of the rigidness and a point of personal bitching i really hate 3 buttons for the cards. so the job isnt for me anymore which is ok i have bard and scholar to play instead. but if i could change ast id do this Spear = Melee Arrow = Ranged Spire = Mini nuke Balance = Dot Ewer = Shield Bole = 5% mit on target(aoe) whilst bringing back the old 1 card at a time. to reduce the issue of people fishing fir the dps boost cards id put some limitation on redraw if not remove it
To me, to make Philosophia better, it would be reducing the procs it gets, maybe upping the potency a bit, and also making the next X damaging spells instant. Yeah if you prepare this would be not really needed, but, it would still be cool and encourage people to dps...
they should have gave physis a small potency buff aswell to go with the 5 second healing buff trait, atleast it would have felt somewhat impactful then..
Ngl I was one of the AST doomer before the expac arrived, based on media tour info. AST is my main and I prog everything on them. I agree that the new 4 cards are kinda meh and useless depending on situations, but can be powerful to save someone who messed up. It makes the job even busier which I like. Few people liked Astrodyne, I personally found it fun and I do mourn my MP and fast cast with the new AST x) The lack of mobility + the proactive healing playstyle makes AST very skillfull to play, as you gotta know well the fight to fully master the insane potency. All the mitigation makes him very valuable as you say. Just to note, mitigation isn't additive but multiplicative, so you can't stack 20% AOE / 40% ST mitig, but 19% AOE and 35% ST. Which is still insane tbh.
