Had the privilege of attending Prof Narasimha lecture on Turbulence. He gave me a job as a Research Associate at the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences in January 1983. Great man. Humility personified.
"Uncommon commitment ,deep integrity , lack of compromise " , "egalitarian ,"so well describle the generation that was born and educated in colonial India and built the nation from almost nothing . I too mourn that strength of character in today's world .
Very interesting & informative talk by Smt. Jotsna Dhavan about her great father late Satish Dhavan cum great space scientist of our country. Very pleasant to watch this interview. Thanks for uploading. Looking forward to similar such videos. I was working in R&D division of KEC Ltd. Bangalore when Satish Dhavan was ISRO chairman.
Wonderful interview Such a pleasure to listen to Jyotsana Dhawan, recounting so many precious memories of her father, who despite being a brilliant scientist and having to struggle with the demanding pressures of work in his specialised field, was a very doting, caring parent, who was very involved in motivating his children in many ingenious ways to strike out on their own. Jyotsana ,despite coming from an obviously illustrious background, comes across as a very humble person, very much influenced by both her parents and grandparents leanings towards intellectual pursuits , while also having imbibed a deeo sense of pride in preserving the cultural values of her parents diversely different regional identities. Thank you for this insightful interview.
A truly great yet simple person who set the excellent framework in ISRO that's there to this day. As a former ISRO scientist, I recall that day when Prof. Dhawan passed away and was in the condolence meet. One other scientist mentioned how flexible Dhawan was during meetings, allowing everyone to be heard without restraint. That's perhaps the best cultural trait that ISRO still has. He was a professional active for years after retirement. A friend of mine once mentioned that Dhawan got to see the first air show in Bengaluru at AF station, Yelahanka, but due to the heavy crowd, didn't mind standing outside the gate and watch. So much was his passion for the Aerospace field. Pranams to him.🙏
A good leader build organisation that it can run it self as effectively as it was during leader’s absence . That is the contribution of Mr Satish Dhawan and left this legacy at successors at ISRO .
Giving trees kids with their names are common in south India. My grandmother named 3 coconut trees for 3 of her sons. Did not like she used the word sleepy south, not true.
Proud legacy of intellectual humanity !! both parents given and jyotsana mam gracefully carrying it with her pure sentiments it's just like successful mission of preserving humanity in technoworld .great..salute to the father of indian science technology researches and aerospace..he was modern Rishi...many heartful thanks for Deepika for such noble interview you really made it worthy by let her speak more . video by souvik mandal is really good 👍🙏 jyotsana mam you are proud daughter of India all human kind never forget the legendary work by prof.satish dhavan.
A very humble man who found time to visit Bangalore Science Forum at National College, Bangalore, where I was a student in the 1960s. The DNA of ISRO was determined by the likes of Dr. Dhawan and Dr. Sarabhai. The success of today derives from that compelling vision they articulated and the solid foundation that they laid..
thank god Dr. Kalam's boss lived a long life and enjoyed his time - . and that final bit - left me sobbing remembering Dr.K's story abt his boss. the tragedy of some of these accomplished nation-building families is that they sometimes lost their icons so unfairly, so soon in tragic unexplained , conspiracies and had to lead the rest of their lives pining away for what mightve been. losing a loved one itself is irrecoverable, but people like these - homi bhabha, sarabhai, shastri, etc - they just leave a raw wound in our hearts for ever. damn the yankees and the russians. and oh - for us miserable losers, we've 1 thing common with the great man - we're also similar monsters on the road & behind the wheel - thats a start.😁
What a wonderful family! Satish Dhawan the Great did a double Ph.D. from California Institute of Technology, returned to India and worked with hands + brains to lead the Engineers and Scientists toward the technological marvels India is producing today.
Yes, unlike many nowadays dream of taking green card, they are out their college in India. India is what it is today because of people like Vikram Sarabhai, Homi Bhaba, Ratan Tata, Abdul Kalam, Chidambaram (not the pilitician), UR Rao, Sivan, the current head of ISRO and many like them who never cared for dream job in US or money. Great people indeed.
@@SV-wu2my My father joined ISRO after his bachelor's,.masters and PhD in chemical engineering from IIT Bombay...one of the earliest IIT Bombay batches...he had a great regard for dr.dhawan and dr.sarabhai
