Roddam Narasimha - the DST Year-of-Science Professor at the Engineering Mechanics Unit, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore - was one of Satish Dhawan's earliest and most distinguished students. In this interview, he shares his memories of his teacher and mentor: how Dhawan influenced him in choosing a research career in fluid dynamics and how Dhawan's personal qualities enabled him to transform IISc - of which he was the longest-serving director - and ISRO.
