Does anyone know why my F650GS was leaking oil from the upper part of the engine and my oil light came on. Once the bike cooled down the light came off and the oil stopped leaking!! Thanks
Katy I can't belive I'm only just seeing this. What an incredible jorney and you've made such a good film from it. Great work. Im gagging to go myself now.
@@HaynesGarage I can belive it. Do you think you'll ever do something similar again? I'm good thanks, been living in cyprus for the past year. The riding out here is endless, on and off road.
I’d love to. It’ll be small family trips for a few years and then when the girls are big enough to go on the back hopefully we can do some longer European trips. I’d love to go and see my friends in Russia again. Sounds like you’ve had an exciting few years too. Did you move to Cyprus for work? Still doing the Downhill as well as motorcycling?
@@HaynesGarage haha fantastic. You'll have to get them those small electric bikes to get them into it early. Eek may find it hard to get into Russia for a while. Yea here with work, riding a little downhill yea but not near as much as i used to, loads of moto though. Drop me a watsapp if you still have my number
Understandably a difficult and emotional decision Katy but it was time to close this chapter, and start writing the next one! Your videos and travel vlog have both helped and inspired me and I look forward to more in the future. Maybe check out the Yamaha T7, that's where I'm heading. All the best ❤
Thanks so much Marc. I feel good about letting Monster go, definitely time to write the next chapter. I enjoy keeping the RU-vid channel going so hopefully I’ll be able to find some time amongst juggling babies to add the occasional video. It’s lovely to hear you’ve been inspired. Good luck with the T7 search.
Great you got it sold! I don't know how it couldn't be interesting regardless of what you get. I really dig the new F900GS but don't have £12000 spare. Anyway, I look forward to see what you decided on and a bike's a bike so all good. FYI, I traded my F650 ST just couldn't get it to run my way, it probably was running as it should be but was never happy, maybe a little underpowered for a 120 kilo 18 and half stone bloke.
Thank you. I’ve been looking at the 700GS a bit lately but I’m wondering whether to try something a bit different. It can be quite shocking looking at the price tag of some bikes can’t it. What did you get in the end? Or are you saving for the F900?
@@HaynesGarage I didn't want anything too big and heavy so thought about middleweights but still ADV, like transalps, tigers, africa twins or Tenere's. Ended up trading for a 700 Transalp, which came to me very unloved, from a trader, he's ignoring me so am taking him to court for the repairs but don't want to dwell on negative things or subject you to them, who needs that. I'll try my best to get my money back, if not it'll be a nice bike when it's done regardless. I'm enjoying it but has a broken rear wheel and under strict instructions from the engineer that did a temp repair, to only use it for work and back so not even had any jaunts yet. Thoughts have crossed my mind, because I don't like interest, I know sometimes it's unavoidable, I may try to trade up. A base model is £12000, which is not really that far out of reach, I have 0% credit cards if need be. I'll see. Just wanted something modern and sorted and I really like the look of these bikes, nothing odd from BMW for a change, just a motorbike with all the stuff in the right places, chain on the left of the bike, nice silencer, high level, nothing odd, no odd suspension set up. Totally floats my boat. I know nothing about the 700GS and yes I agree with the prices, especially Triumphs, they really hold their prices. A guy at work bought a 1200 explorer or similar, beautiful big dude, too big for me but the little sis, the 800 would be fine for me. Not sure yet. Just looking forward to my new wheel rim and spokes arriving so I can get the rear wheel relaced and new tyres so I'll be safe to go rip it up somewhere, going stir crazy. All about the pennies, anyway I look forward to seeing your new hoss in the stable.
Very sad to see Monster go. But the time was right. She has been amazing, she took you round the world and looked after you in so many different situations and conditions. Well done Monster. Onwards and upwards, darling. Here’s to many more adventures 🏍️ I love you ❤️
Hi Katy. I don't know whether you have an iridium spark plug installed, but I had one on mine, which was stalling and running very badly so I decided to put the old regular one back in and now it running like a Swiss watch. Just a thought.
My 650gs 2000 mileage 36000 Km.... Had stalling and power loss issue and today's simple remedy fixed it entirely. ISC cleaning. Throttle body cleaning. including cable and return spring. ISC was stuck by carbon soot severely and cleaned easily by spray cleaner. Now it runs great .Back to normal.
Hello Katy. Please check fuel pump pressure. Ia rated to 3.5bar. under that pressure is pump fault. And the last test ,continuity of 28 pins wires from bms to all conections. Great effort from your side. ❤
This might help i had a similar problem. It started in the fuel tank, so i cleaned the strainer, and the tank didn't cure it, but i took out the injector, cleaned the body, and nosel, and i ran fuel through it before putting it back together. I think i cleaned it with carb cleaner. I hadn't had a problem since. Might be worth a try before giving up
I had silly falling down due to silly engine stall just after start-off and turn right. I have lived with my 650gs for 20 yrs AND this stupid stall... Oxygen sensor is shot, but I know it works anyway even with shot sensor as default value , just bad fuel consumption. I will be letting my monster go around 2035 with mileage 100K Km....hopefully. I wish you a great new start with new another monster soon. Happy ride!
I saw your add on auto trader couldn't find your channel with "Haynesgarage" the bike obviously means a lot to you. Why not get another engine? Keep the old engine for spares?
hi, if you get an OBD2 reader, a cable to connect it to the bike, and motoscan app on an android phone, you can get a lot of information from that. the socket is under the right hand fairing. by the way, thats an ambient air temperature sensor, not air pressure sensor
Late to the party , but wondered if you had ever checked into the rear wheel speed sensor causing the loss of power or stalling? I had a K bike years ago that had a similar issue.
Hi there, I ve been watching with interest and have had to do all the same repairs as you! Great bike when they work.... Mine has the same problem with stalling. I checked out the idle valve and when I took it out the plunger and spring popped out. Eventualy got it back together and the bike was running quite well again. took it to get a diagnoistic and during the testing it started playing up again so I m pretty sure thats the problem. Just got to get a new one I think and they are nt cheap! At least its easy to fit.
Is your rear brake master cylinder corroded and seized up? Is your brake functioning normally? I’ve had a few of these break on this bike due to water seeping in past the rubber grommet on the top
@@HaynesGarage rear brake caliper was corroded so completely removed and reconditioned it put it all back together and now cannot bleed the brakes can't get fluid to come from the reservoir brake master cylinder was working properly
Wow Katy, your bike has done its share of miles! 👍 I was wondering if perhaps there is a vacuum building up in the gas tank, due to a faulty vent system? If when the problem occurs again, simply pop open the gas cap and see if the issue relieves itself. If so, that may be what the problem is. Cheers and best of luck! From a fellow BMW rider (F800ST), Steven
I just got the same dust seals from Pyramid and yeah had the same thought about the different desigb but the old spring clip design didn’t appear to exert much pressure so I’m hopeful the new ones will be ok😂 Old fork seal was a real pig to get out, top tip that worked is heat gun on outside of aluminium slider until good and hot then slider in vice and slam out with the fork tube and both hands!
Have a ride down to the Canary Islands, I'll sort the little engine problems its got for you, unfortunately twisting the throttle does not reset anything
If I'm not mistaken 2.8 ohm for the resistance of the stator winding is way too much, it should be at most 0.5 ohm. Your stator is busted. Mine has about 0.9, I'm afraid I will have to change it. The voltage doesn't rise when revving up the engine.
@@HaynesGarage My battery is busted. I think it's because of bad charging. But I don't think the stator is the cause, because I remembered to measure the probes in short, and they're about 0.4 ohm, so the stator would be just about right. I suspect it's the rectifier. I will order a new battery and see from there. It's my mistake, I have a usb plug with a voltmeter installed, but I didn't think of monitoring my voltage once in a while and when the cold weather came the battery showed signs of weakness.
