Vinnie Paul played with balls; he was a power house! Amazing, skillful, innovative and drummed differently from his peers…. He was a phenomenal drummer
When him and Dime hit that "groove" it was a new phenomenon in metal. So glad I saw Pantera multiple times. The absolute tightest band ever. Just incredible.
I know this might be controversial, but I think vinnie and Dime were a better brother duo then Alex and Eddie…. It’s like they took it to a new level, of confidence and power!
May not have been my favorite drummer but damn he for sure was the loudest I ever heard. His bass drums would beat you up and that was at a open air stadium in Dallas
When Darrell was killed I for sure thought Vince was done, I figured he wouldn't go on without his right hand man. I'm so glad Vinnie Paul got a new lease on life with Hellyeah. RIP Brick Wall.
I've always wondered; are the neck, back and arm movements just the natural way he picked up the drums, or was it a conscious decision. I guess at least we know it's consistent from "85. Sometimes I try n copy a fraction of his style by chucking the cymbals up really high to make more movement in my arms lol. Not so easy in death/ black metal though hehe; It's taxing but the crowd do seem to respond better. Just his fn movements alone would be amazing even if was a lousy drummer.
Scream, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age, Mondo Generator, Tenacious D, Them Crooked Vultures... Dave Grohl is the Samuel L. Jackson of music.
Back in the 90s I remember saying to people in my band , I've been listening to this kind of thrash / funk kind of band , the album was cfh, I converted the band into pantera fans . Then vulgar came out and was harder and heavier we loved it . When far beyond driven came out it sealed pantera as the one and only thrash ,groove ,metal band that recorded and released harder ,faster ,heavier metal than all the other bands around them , at the time most of the major thrash bands were cutting their hair ,wearing skater clothes ,and trying to fit in with the emerging nu metal scene . Pantera kept thrash alive in the late 90s early 2000s .
I love how they used to light his drum kit back in the day. It used to look like an Olmec head or some death mask or something with the double bass and toms looking like eyes and a nose. Pantera was badass but I think I liked him more in HellYeah. He was just so polished and perfect, so saturated and compressed. I loved his sound on those albums. He truly was a rock God. RIP.
