One of my favorite climbing videos, care free and having fun. I've been on the rope runner pro for one year now and it's one of the best things I've come across in the climbing world in my 18 years of service to the industry. Well done and thank you for making it easy on an older climber! Five stars on this device!!
I had to re-watch this video to study how to better grip the rope with my hands. With classic doubled rope, I can manage, but my single 11mm rope feels like dental floss on my fingers. Yesterday, I got a lot better at Rope Wrench footlocking after extending my bridge and modifying my Fusion tether with zip ties & electrical tape to improve my hand grip (it’s now also a tooth-less hand ascender)…which begs the question….why do no life support climbing devices incorporate hang/pull handles? Is this risky? Thanks for posting this, it provides me some re-assurance in my abstaining from using $400 of toothy, tangly, fidgety bits to get up there. “ I got no strings to hold me down To make me fret, or make me frown I had strings, but now I'm free There are no strings on me.” -Pinocchio
Hi Kevin, I used to climb for a living but not anymore , so I haven't advanced my skill set beyond DRT; however, now I'd like to dust off the original Rope Wrench I bought a decade ago but never learned how to use. I'd like to modify that bolt to a removeable pin like in this video. I can probably figure it out but could provide the proper secs and or cautions? Lastly, what's the proper tension to calibrate for that middle adjustable bolt? Chris Ekstrom, December 15th, 2022
The editing and multiple camera angles make this a truly awesome example of how videos should be done. Like Lawrence Schultz. No junk. No dogs. No talking, just straight-up awesome. Jim H.
Hey Kevin, I was messing around with my RRP and I noticed on one of the inside walls of the bird that there's a small channel where the slic pin goes through. After some futzing around I figured out that if you rotate the bird count-clockwise while pulling on the slic pin (when it's already half-way removed from the RRP), it will allow it to release without having to actually reach inside the bird to release the snaps. I'm guessing that must have been intentional, but is there a reason why this was only added to one wall (which requires the slic pin installation opposite of how it's packaged)? Either way, I thought it was a neat discovery.
Man I wish notch was a better company… I’d buy a rrp if I could trust notch manufacturing. I trust kevin, I hang my life on a rr original quite often. But notch, they make me nervous.
Started at the bottom now your here! did you ever imagine you would be such a inspiration to fellow climbers, or that you would change the way climbers climb?
Revisiting one of the most underrated climbing videos ever created for the 999th time. We need more climbing videos in this style. No talking, nothing extra, just climbing.
Man I fancy myself as a climber, not a great one at all but it's how I feed my family... seriously how are you so controlled!!? your climbing is poetry in motion!!!! You make it look way to easy!!!! How!???
At the beginning I thought: What kind of soundtrack is this for a tree climbing competition movie. But these guys just seem to climb to the beat. Great stuff.
Wow -- happy to find this early video! So much has happened and built on this invention since this video was made. Thanks for all you've done to advance tree climbing, Kevin.
