So the father is obviously suffering from divorced dad guilt, buying the vip meet package for his daughter who liked this boy band in middle school. A clue as to how long ago he actually lived with his daughter that he doesn't know she has long moved on in her musical tastes.
As a Pan woman, I watched this film with my straight boyfriend. both of unanimously agreed halfway through, that the book may have been a Harry Styles Fanfic but the movie is for sure an Anne Hathaway fanfic.
Hate to burst bubbles but this is not a HS fanfic. The male was based off the 3 men, one yes HS. But it was probably just British and boy band only because spoiler in case you didn’t see it the book was originally written with black characters. The HS fanfic came from HS fans.
You're just like me watching a movie: always trying to clock what's about to happen right before it does. It feels good being right😂 I was skeptical when I first heard about this movie but I really enjoyed it! I was never into fanfic or 1d, so I feel like I was able to watch it without making the same kinds of comparisons that other people did. That's probably why I didn't find it too cringey. I've seen some people try to make 1d/Harry comparisons that could literally apply to any band or singer. The author said she was inspired by a few different men and bands and she named the character after her husband.

(Edit: I'm extremely high and fucked up the quote the first time i typed it. 🤣🤣🤣) Is one of my FAVORITE lines in this movie it makes me laugh EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear it... I absolutely would be quoting it more often ... If I had anybody around me that would understand the reference. 🤣🙃🤣
Yeah, I think during the car scene the fact that she was able to drive backwards the whole time WAS part of the joke. It's a very subtle kind of absurdist joke but there is a BUNCH of absurdist jokes in this movie...so it fits.
