I played the game for the first time last night after having listened to the OST since 2018. Went in completely blind and hadn't listened to the OST for a while. This song. That ascent. The murals. One of the greatest experiences I have ever had in a video game. I think something in me went to another plane of existence.
Every few months I play through this game in one sitting. This piece always makes me bawl hysterically, I don't know how but Austin's music just has a way of evoking such raw emotion no matter how many times I hear it. The cello solo at the end as the traveler walks into the light specifically always gets me. This game is art and I love it so much
Nearly, what - 20 years since this games' release, and this song still moves me to tears. Journey was such a powerful game for me for reasons I can't articulate.
I remember assuming that you don't stay connected for the final leg of the journey and that this moment is always played alone and feeling so sad that our journey together was over. Then I saw this small wisp of light that I was sure I'd never seen here before--and it turned out that I was very wrong. The best part about this was that my friend seemed to assume this too because when we saw each other again we both started beeping like crazy and we were so excited that we had to land and run in circles around each other for a few minutes bc we were so happy to get to finish the story together. The entire last leg we were calling out to each other so we could see where the other was and not get separated. It made that second playthrough all the more special :)
I just now searched up the lyrics to this song. It had never occurred to me that the song actually transitions between several languages, particularly citing some of the most ancient works that we know of. Truly elevates this song to sound like all of humanity's forefathers saying goodbye, farewell, we've gone our own way. Definitely crying now. Here's a copy I found of those lyrics and translations along with where they were generally sourced: Stat Sua cuique dies (To each his day is given) Stat Sua cuique dies (To each his day is given) - Latin, The Aeneid Maél is mé tó féran (‘Tis time that I fare from you) - Old English, Beowulf Aleto men moi nostos (Lost is my homecoming) Aleto men moi nostos (Lost is my homecoming) - Greek, The Illiad C’est pour cela que je suis née (I was born for this) - French, Joan of Arc Kono michi ya (On this road) Yuki hito nishi ni (Goes no one) Kono michi ya (On this road) Aki no kure (Autumn sunset) - Japanese, Matsuo Basho C’est pour cela que je suis née (I was born for this) Ne me plaignez pas (Do not pity me) C’est pour cela que je suis née (I was born for this) - French, Joan of Arc
You went on a journey, from a jar to the sky. You've made a friend along the way, one you might never see again. Yet you still continue coming back to this exact place. Is it the sorrow that brings you back here, or perhaps the happiness? Knowing that there are more people just like you, wishing to go on these journeys, meet with people they have never known. Perhaps you miss the feeling of kindness from a stranger? Whatever the reason is, don't let me stop you from coming back here. For i am a mere echo within a chorus of contradiction.
Going in to this game I knew there was a possibility of another player being in my game. What I didn’t expect was a companion who stuck by my side the entire time. They showed me every secret and were very patient as I tried to figure my way around the levels. They chirped when I chirped and always stuck by me to refill my scarf. When I knew the end was near I was so shocked when I started tearing up. The crescendo of the music as my new friend and I soar through the clouds. I didn’t want it to end. But I am happy that it happened. I will never forget my companion and I will never forget my Journey.
This is one of those pieces of media music where the music somehow contains the story. Like when I listen to this I feel every one of the emotional beats. Truly special moment.
trash. non-music. ehh, sorry I was just so disappointed with this game and the lack of a real soundtrack. this kind of non-music is so painfully overused. gonna listen to Franck to cleanse my ears
@@pezvonpez no. i completely stand by that statement. there wasn't one good song in the whole game. I can't stand this background style music that's geared at manipulating the player's emotions. this crap is in every TV show, movie and commercial. it isn't music.
@@pezvonpez you're so far gone that it's hard to think somebody doesn't like this generic crap? there's good OST music out there. try Nier or Megaman X6 or Celeste or Final Fantasy 7 or 8 or Doom even. Journey won the "best of the decade" award which is ridiculously offensive imo. that's why I came here to make a post. After playing the game and being wildly unimpressed I had to comment. every sonic game has better music than this rubbish
listen man I get the idea of what you're feeling but you take it to such an extreme that it's hard to believe would it be correct to say that what you're saying is Orchestral Music Bad? you weirdo guy should check out the rain world soundtrack. look at this, it's barely even music! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oXwpkxqqRCQ.htmlsi=PjRW2SH84X9fuvG9
