Looking down on my Black Helix Ascent on black sports strap...yep, FEELS better than Rolex, Monta and GS. So clean, so right, so complete - I just like how it looks more and it feels super nice on hand. I don't think videos mostly about undefined FEELINGS are constructive.
I bought two. Black enamel on J style and Purple fumé on o style initially. I instantly swapped the bracelets around upon opening them up. Purple on J is my blingy-er alternative when I want to feel a little more ostentatious, black on o when I want understated class. For the money, great, a Rolex or Omega it ain’t, and people that say they are, absolutely delusional. As to influences, here’s what I see: GS on the case and dials, Aqua Terra indices and bracelets very obviously Rolex…
Hello mate, can you do me a favour and explain why being high horology means you cannot set the watch correctly? This not hacking thing makes no sense to me. Surely any high horological watch should be able to keep extremely accurate time and be actually on time? Sounds like posh BS to me to say you cannot have an accurate watch while paying thousands upon thousands of dollars for a watch
I do not actually know the fine details, but the gist of it is that hacking is a severe shock to the mechanics that is best avoided. I kind of appreciate that this may be correct ('hacking' is quite a rough term when you think about it!) and high horology is a world away from a bullet proof Rolex. I like to set a watch Bob On, but maybe this is just a hang over from the speaking clock (123) and my Casios? I would have embraced the non hacking (did you know that was a thing on HH?), but the sub second nonsense is plain ridiculous!!! I might pop into a VC AD on Tuesday and have it out with them Haha.
It's quite calming when you think about it. You find out if your watch runs fast or slow, then set accordingly and wait for it to become more accurate! Have zero idea of VC accuracy parameters either 😶
Not sure anything apart from being David Beckham or giving the AD a huge bung to flip Rolex will get you the chance to walk into a random store and buy a Rolex unfortunately.
Haha, I Prefer getting 'The Call' (or email) but I have walked in and bought 2, and could have bought a 3rd historically, and I have no doubt it will return to that in some shape or form. I turned down a Deepsea 11 series (they had a hot Sub in the window for sale too) some years ago, and actually did not expect there to be a waitlist when I got the 12 series, but I only waited 3 months. I think a Rolex Boutique (still AD owned (Prestons)) was trying to offer me to bribe them, but all other normal AD's have been Cool.
That jangle just showed the difference in quality as the Rolex is obviously better, but that Erebus looks amazing for the money. Great watch from Jody and Stevie. Good pick up mate, you got winner there
Hey old buddy, how's things? People put percentages and prices on watch enjoyment, but at the end of the day, life is short, a Rolex is not an unobtainable Ferrari. Guys only really have watches. Buy the Rolex ASAP, wear it, enjoy being a guy. Fiddle around with other watches...... and aim for a Ferrari 😂
This is the silliest “review” I’ve seen on the Ascent. Literally nobody is saying that it’s anything near the quality of a Grand Seiko or Rolex. It’s a $350-450 watch. It’s a nice alternative to a Tissot. You said the same thing like 18 times and I don’t know why. Really just felt like you were trying to justify your own purchases or toot your own horn. What an absolute waste of time.
They all mention it lol. Jody even mentions it in the comments of this one 😂 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GSXb_Zdu0IM.html I would love it if they did not and certainly do not need an excuse to show other watches.
Who reads those? What would it say? It's just not a very pleasurable movement to operate compared to the Deepsea. The manual is not helping with that. You Omega Gatekeepers are funny lol
As an owner of the Deepsea and the titanium Ultradeep … both are fine timepieces, just a little different. I like each of them equally. Omega gets more compliments.
@@lbco5229 Nice ; ) I do not really mention peoples Rolex's as there is not much to say unless its a Turnograph or a quartz etc. so can imagine a newer less seen watch will get more comments.
@@mrmagoo.3678 I thought it was a good analogy, but you are correct' a Golf door is only one noise when you shut it, but a Rolex is lots of different noises throughout the taking on and putting on. It was the quality I was referencing.
I own the new Ascent. The Ascent is nice, but is certainly no Rolex, and I tire of the disingenuous comments about this watch by those who got free Ascent watches in return for their unqustioned loyalty.
Hi, Yes, some have been a bit shilly. Disingenuousness is rife in RU-vid watch world and I didn't think Erebus reviews suffered too much from it (apart from the Rolex BS) if I am honest. We all know its impossible to be impartial with a friends watch/freebie/something that brings cash to your bank account, so have to take it with a pinch of salt and read between the lines. Erebus watches seem to be pretty good so they do not have to shill too much anyway. I thought Jody balanced his review of Russels collab abomination very well, and hope they are still talking 😂 Jody and Teddy seem to be the most credible to me, and I have enjoyed being part of Jody and Stevie's journey.
Hi, Yes, EX40. They both measure about 38.5mm but the Assent is smaller in all other dimensions. Lug to lug, lug width, thickness, and dial diameter. Being that it is a tad under 39mm and has a slightly small dial area for the case, so I would say it wears on the smaller side yes.
Don't beat yourself up about it. Most AD managers and brand reps don't know about it lol. Watch shops (I used to work in one) would also not be too interested in doing it properly even if they did because its fiddly and time consuming. Surprised its such a little known fact though.
The thing is as much as i would not want to be, i am a watch snob on some level. As value for money that microbrands are, you cannot buy the history that big brands have. Ive tried microbrands, and they're amazing value propositions for somebody whos not a watch idiot (me) but for me, part of it really is the history and longevity and reputations big established brands have
A lot to unpack there and not enough space here. Fantastic comment and perspective. I am somewhere in the middle. I do not get too into brand history other than they have been doing it a long time and therefor do it better. A good microbrand is like getting two chocolate bars out of a vending machine on a cold Monday morning when you paid for one v A flight to Belgium at the weekend for the good stuff 😎
You see that on Most watches with similar type clasps tbh...Never really bothered me as it only shows when Your wrist is at certain angles to your eyes.
It would be good if manufacturers offered the option of both when you buy a watch as good fitment is very important. Once you get into the more expensive watches there really is no excuse.
@@wristopia4101 it’s a review. Every opinion is valid! And it’s definitely no Rolex. We designed it to be better than a Seiko Sarb. Reckon it is too. The only thing you were definitely wrong about it Jody doing most of it. Everything we’ve put out is a complete collab 😉
I'd like to hear the bracelet jangle of the GS and the Rolex compared to the Ascent off wrist, given you did say you hadn't sized the Erebus properly. But having said that no-one can compare a $500 odd watch to one that is 5, 10 or 20 times more in price and for some people, unobtainium anyway...
San Martin made a GS bracelet for and old GS diver homage (no longer available, unfortunately) that was the quality of a GS bracelet, they had gotten the same polishing machine to do zaratsu level finishing, and they nailed it, almost indistinguishable, and the bracelet was probably better because they tapered it and had micro adjustments. However, they've never produced anything of similar quality since. The GS homage was just them flex they could do such high level of quality. Such a disappointment that they didn't continue to make that bracelet.
I got also a Blue Helix and the Watch itself is amazing, BUT... the movement ist not regulated - it runs with -8sec/day 👎 EDIT: After regulating the movement, its running with +1/-4sec
Mate, factory tolerance for the Miyota 9015 is -10 to +30 sec a day… yours is within tolerance. You’re not buying a COSC certified movement for under $400USD!!
I used this tip on someone else's video, but it was more like 2 min saved lol. Glad you made it to the good stuff. In my defence its a complicated thing and I know I have helped some people. I could be wrong, but its possibly the only video on RU-vid where someone is giving real world experience of all three.
Yes, it's not as unique as the Origin, but guess that's what the objective was. Was hoping to have the Henry Archer Vesterhav for comparison, but cancelled the order because the owner pulled the rug on me re. early ordering costs. I feel it would have been better value (albeit more expensive) and more my thing design wise (for a non Rolex). Live in hope Helm will do a sports dress watch 😈
I returned a watch to CW sellars unused, they stated they would cancel the finance and refund the deposit. Ended up chasing it up and was assured again, then started getting demands from the finance company after the watch had been returned a month ago, I ended up threatening them with the financial ombudsman. I wouldn’t use them again either.
Guess away! It's shameful of him as a 'designer' and the company as a respected chronograph manufacturer doing this IMO. It was completely unnecessary and they could easily have just done it correctly. It makes a joke of us watch enthusiasts scrutinising watches so closely and enjoying fine details, but then this 'designer' and company just say 'ah bugger it, it doesn't matter, that'll do, nobody will notice' 🙄
@@wristopia4101 yup that arrogance is common place sadly, but we're here the citizen journalists to call them out :D so TGV if you're reading this please do get in touch for some honest feedback 😎
Worth noting that apparently, the reason why the crown was removed was to make it closer to the actual swiss rail clock. Same reason why it has the second hand movement. 👍
Makes sense but it does look weird on a watch. Better than the first one but I feel its obviously a watch so a normal looking crown would work best IMO. They also need to do an outdoor/waterproof clock if they want to double down on the railway thing Haha.
Hey! Thanks!! I nearly bought one from Amazon US at a premium, but think it had sold when I tried to pay. Invicta EU then emailed to say it was back in stock! Really pleased with it. Had it on the other day ; )
Thanks! My SBGX341 has been off my wrist for a while because I just couldn't get the bracelet dialed in. It was either too loose or too tight with a half link in or out. With your measurements, I found that, in the too tight configuration, if I took out one full link and added two half links instead, it gave me that few extra millimeters to dial it in perfectly.
Haha, I will have to watch again to see if I missed that out or you are being sarcastic ; ) The Batman is a stunning 24 click Bi Directional, and the SM was (its been returned) a 120 click uni directional I think. The SM Batgirl is a decent 24 click Bi though ; )
Love you love Omega 😍 6 of one and half a dozen of the other on these two IMO. My personal experience of Quality is very much a win for Rolex. Absolutely zero issues, but every Omega seems to have one. It does not put me off though.
Notice how you have a stanped clasp? Fake. Even my $300 watches have a milled clasp. Rolex doesnt make garbage. That's a cheap bracelet therfore its fake.
Feels like a milled clasp to me. I do have a Pressed clasp on my vintage SD though, so think I know the difference. How many Rolex/High End High Street watches have you handled?
