Hmm, I guess I’m not sure. It’s been years now since I’ve switched to the esmart batteries. I would search the JWSound forums about the NP-9X batteries and how they compare.
I am still using my sony sl 2000 portable vcr from 1982 that uses a np 1 battery. I have the swit lithium np 1 96 watthour battery and i get like 8 hrs of run time on the vcr alone without the video camera connected. With cam i get like 5 in a half hrs run time. Beats the old sony nicad 1.5 ah that only gave an hour in a half run time on vcr alone.
Hi buddy. I have one simple question? How easy is it to synchronize it with two cameras and a portable recorder using timecode? I would love for you to show me how it works? Thanks!
It’s very easy. With my setup, I just turn on all of the TC-1’s and the SL-1, open the Sidus audio app, choose the correct framerate for the shoot I’m on, hit jam, use the cables that work with whatever camera we’re filming with, make sure that the settings are correct on the camera and that the timecode in camera is showing the same timecode as my mixer/sync boxes. Unfortunately this process is slightly different depending on what gear you’re using, which cameras are being used, and sometimes even the firmware of the camera. Hope this helps.
Hi! I’m thinking about picking up a slate and some TC boxes for Black Friday. I was wondering if you’ve had any more sync issues with the slate? It drifted 3 times, you said. Has it happened since? Great review, by the way. Thanks!
I haven’t noticed it since the video thankfully. Not sure if it was fixed in a firmware update or if the other times were flukes. The Black Friday prices are great and I would highly recommend it. I get a lot of compliments with this slate. I would recommend buying the faceplate protectors as well. The markers seem to leave less residue on those.
It should be pretty similar to the trxla3. Hold the menu button while powering it up to get to the extended menu, press inc until you find the format page. Hope this helps
I just demo'd these last week alongside my Nova, and had the same weird Ubits issue. Used app to update all to latest firmware but ubits were still in the reverse order as displayed in the app.
@ShelbyWatson lol that word Teardown reminds .e of my ex. We used to go walking through the neighborhood and look at all of the new houses being built and certsin hpuses she would just label as a teardown like she had the authority to make that call lol
Awesome, i just bought one on BH Photo. Showing up on Wednesday. Any idea how to get music track timecode into this? Might try to figure that out for music video use to show the music time instead of camera time.
To be honest, I’m not sure. If you use a TC-1 from your bag, you may be able to have it read your timecode from your mixer/playback, but I’ve never done it. I would reach out to Andrew from deity on one of the Deity groups on Facebook to get a better answer. Let me know if you get it figured out.
@@ShelbyWatson i prior already bought into nano lockits from ambient. i read though that the TC-1 don't continually communicate like other brands do so I thiunk the TC-1's may not adjust to timecode rewindow / going back to a prior part of the song like you'd do with music video playback. I'm not sure if my nano lockits update often or just once like the TC1s. We shall see. Someone suggested sending a LAV tranmit/reciever to be able to send timecode audio and plug that in... maybe? I'll give it a shot haha. I'm sure it will also require figuring out the timecode offset if it even works. I'll have to setup a premiere /avid project with like 2 pop / tail pop before / after the song on specific timecode on the music track, and see exactly where it lands. wish me luck. it'd be rad for music videos. I know that's how the big boys do it.
@@stenbiller99 I have only used the nano lockits a handful of times, but I feel like that may be a consistent jam. I just glanced through the slates manual and it didn’t mention a read mode, so I’m not even sure if that is something you can do. I’ve never thought of a practical reason for read mode on a slate, but this must be the reason for it.
@@ShelbyWatson i think if you've got the cable going the other direction (since they make one directional timecode cables) it may respond that in read mode.. i will let you know! haha. I'll be testing it soon
@@stenbiller99 I had some time today to check and see how the slate would respond to the timecode source changing. The timecode does change to the new timecode after about a second.
Good question. Since I invested in the deity timecode TC-1s and can jam everything wirelessly, I’d have to go with the deity. It feels really good as well. Both are great though.
First off, you need the nova keyboard dongle (www.gothamsound.com/product/nova-keyboard-dongle). Double check the “Rev” your nova has and just double check when you order that it’ll work with yours. Mine was Rev 1 because it’s one of the first Novas (it requires a slight change in the wiring in the dongle), but the majority is rev 2 which work fine with the dongle. Then the keyboard is just a cheap Bluetooth keyboard from Amazon that comes with a small usb that’ll plug into the dongle and wirelessly connects to the keyboard. Hope this helps.
Piece of junk, terrible customer service. After two months the small screen on the back stopped working. Unable to change settings so it's useless. I emailed support which took forever for them to get back to me, and now I've been waiting for nearly a month as to when they will ship replacement. I keep on getting the runaround and excuses like supply chain issues, etc, meanwhile everyone has this slate in stock, including distributors. People need to know that if they buy this and it stops working, they will not get professional customer service. You're just gambling $1000. I feel as if I will never get my replacement slate. They won't give an clear answer as to when. Everything is up in the air. Sucks. I'm bummed.
Sorry to hear that. That does suck. If the slate works as intended, it’s great. But with your screen dying, mine slipping in time, my second battery not showing up, and the app keeps logging me out; I get why it’s cheaper than my Denecke which has always been rock solid. Have you tried reaching out to Andrew from Deity?
@@ShelbyWatson Deity support finally gave me a clearer response last night. They said that they "should" have a unit to ship me in beginning of March and if I wanted they offered a refund. Perhaps the issues are because you and I got the the first batch of slates. I hope they've ironed out any manufacturing or firmware issues when I get my replacement. The advanced connectivity of this slate shows promise. I have a strong feeling that Tentacle Sync will have a Timecode slate that works with their ecosystem at NAB this year. They are big players and are not going to sit on the sidelines.
@@willvazquez3218 glad to hear that you’re making progress with it. And I totally agree, I think tentacle is probably going to jump in on it. I had to use tentacles for a shoot last week and apparently you can jam the new GoPros with a QR code in the tentacle Timebar app. I had never heard of this feature, but it worked very well. Curious to see what they come up with next.
I don't do a lot of deity stuff but I've had amazing customer service from andrew. Perhaps the well known supply chain issues they mentioned are the issue.

Sorry I didn’t explain it. The way to do the playback commands is to hold the “Card” button, and press “up” to put the transmitter into record, “down” to put tell it to stop, and “menu” to play the last segment. Let me know if that helps.
I would love to have you do a side-by-side comparison of the Deity and the Denecke TS-C. I have the Ultrasync One TC modules and I need to purchase a Slate. I really like the looks of the Deity. I'm hesitant because people seem to think Deity products are not professional grade. I think if I had the Deity TC modules it would be a given. Can't wait to see your follow-up.
I’ll make one once I get my Denecke back from the other production. I am using the deity slate on a feature now, so hopefully I’ll have a more informed opinion by the time I get the Denecke back.
I was too, but having a switch right there on the side is nice. I’m sure if it auto rotated there would be times that it flipped the wrong way and could be frustrating.
Sorry, RU-vid didn’t notify me. Honestly, the range on the QRX200’s without a micplexer is not good. I was always struggling to get decent range with them. The Nova or micplexer makes a huge difference. What are your thoughts?
Sorry I missed this, I am using one of these from Remote Audio. remoteaudio.com/power-cables/usb-power-converter-cables/remoteaudio.com/power-cables/usb-power-converter-cables/
Hm... It doesn't seem to work... I am in desperade need of the new Output modes (mine shows only: XLR, ISO, DSLR). I have updated the firmware (v2.0 on the DUO, and v2.1 on the Transmitters), but the output modes aren't beeing displayed. The Version number shows the above-mentioned Firmwareversions... Pls send help. Best regards from Munich, keep up the great work!
I'm sure there used to be a shortcut for this on the F4, or maybe an old version of the firmware - you could press and hold both record arm buttons, and it would enable, just like you do to link tracks to stereo.
