Good comparison. Would you take a proper track-like hothatch that’s light and nimble with some decent power, but FWD, or a higher powered hothatch that isn’t as serious, but has RWD??? As a guy who owns a MK7 GTI 6spd, is FBO, IS38, custom tuned, WMI, all the suspension goodies, etc., and much faster than a stock TCR, unfortunately, I probably would still choose to go the RWD route. RWD is just funner, especially when modded correctly.
In a straight line which is the quickest.. I would say definitely the BMW M140. As anyone had a race in a straight line which involve these two cars. Before you say that TCR is better on the bends.. I just wanted to know how is the quickest to 60 and to 100 mph.. As I said M140 would win out right in my opinion that B58 engine is a Beast..
Err, all road cars have a diff 😉, I assume you meant an open diff?... scratch that, I heard you say later a LSD, that's not a factory fit is it? How many miles had your car done on those tyres? I agree that wet grip is important, personally I think a little more so than dry grip (even though I track my M3 occasionally, last time on Monday at a rain soaked Bedford!), I'm also in the UK so I get what you mean about the whether! lol
Really fun down to earth video, you have a new subscriber 😃 2 great cars. I have a red Clubsport 40 and the special edition GTI's are very enjoyable cars.
@@markjones-ej8tm The M140i has a bit more adjustment, if you have electric seats but I would say the TCR is probably more spacious, driving position wise.
I've just sold my TCR for a Mk8 Golf R. Have to say the TCR is a great car, you need to have DCC which allows you to adjust the suspension. I hardly ever noticed any torque steer on mine so i'd say you need to get that looked at. There are some good roads around there but far to many average speed cameras now hey 😉 Good work chaps.
@@duncanh997 Very nice! I do like the Mk8 generation, however I’ve heard the interiors are a bit of a step down in quality compared to the MK7.5. I think if I spent time in the TCR I would be able to dial that tourqe steer out just by being smoother and being used to the car. Better tyres would help too. I think AJ has plans to get PS5’s on there soon.
@@andrewjohnston2901 exactly, it all depends on your driving style too. If you power hard out of a roundabout or junction, that will be where its noticed.
@MrVideeeooo The TCR is a great car and was a real wrench to sell it. If i compare the 2, you can feel that the TCR was lighter and was ever so slightly more nimble. Where the R changes things up is grip, pulling out of junctions, wet weather, roundabouts etc, having that playful rear diff really gives you a sharp front end. Both my TCR and R have DCC, so i can compare ride quality. I would say overall, from softest settings to the hardest settings, the R is a slightly softer smoother ride with the TCR always feeling slightly firmer. Now, reflecting on both cars. When i sold my TCR i had big doubts whether i was doing the right thing. The TCR looked amazing where as the R is more stealthy. However from the moment i took the R off the forecourt, i have not looked back or missed the TCR once and that speaks volumes.( I dont have any issues with the infotainment system either.)
In the more fun to drive question no one mentions the front and rear wheel drive aspect. I personally think rear wheel drive cars are more fun. But that's just me (an owner of a M140i 😛)
@@Tunners26 in certain aspects yeah, but with a few tweaks it becomes the car it should have been. Remember you could get an M140i for 31-33k brand spankers back in the day. That’s unheard of now.
@roadreg1820 I just borrowed my brother's 2017 non-petrol particulate filter for the week! His dynoed 393 BHP stock. It was good to spend some time in it, as I have a 2018 Focus RS. It allowed time to really compare the two hot hatches. B58 both fantastically smooth yet savage above 4k. Hard to make a direct comparison, as the auto ZF really changes the style of the driving.
@@Tunners26 397 stock!? That’s insane!! To be honest, I’m a huge fan of the Focus RS. Probably one of the best chassis on a hot hatch, and paired with a manual, it’s one hell of a driving experience. Completely night and day to the M140i. The M140i is a baby grand tourer, soft but punchy. The RS is a rally car for the road!
@roadreg1820 Yep. Stock. They reckon the PPF introduced from 2018 onwards eats about 25 to 30bhp. More emissions, more performance! M140! Certainly the performance bargain of the decade. Nice to have 2 in the family. Just had PS5's on the rear of the BMW and the grip is night and day improvement 👌.
Great comments on Touch-On. Thank you for the update. Perhaps you could do a comparison between Touch-on and Infinity Wax Synergy boost another snow lance on, spray off sealant.
@@morganfreeman4726 I haven’t because I only use distilled water and I had the coolant changed a few months after this video, and the cap changed.

Good video. I was almost talked out of B8s, since people complained about a harsh ride. But I also hate the jumpiness in my Giulietta and would love to reduce that.
Got a 3dr 2.0 XT-R '05 4WD. Fun to drive (maybe a bit too fun sometimes). Going to be thirstier than the 2WD. Would've liked the locking diff off the mk1 (a model which has it's own charm). Gearbox is solid, but not great for quick shifting take-offs (due to 4WD I guess). Later model has cruise control, airbags and a 10th cubby (for sunglasses?) above the auto dimming mirror. 140,000+miles and the oil still never looks like it needs changing at each service. Most fun car since my mk1 MX-5(Eunos) and tons more practical (ok, I'm getting old) - I'd buy them both again.
Mark 3 series 2 and yes in 1989 that exhaust came as standard. The Ford brochure other wise known as Max Power and later Fast Ford carried all the optional extra listings and tips on how to destroy your car. Vans with just enough room inside form two seats or modified hatchbacks with no room for the shopping
@@gothicpagan.666 Don't comment made up crap dude. Thats a stainless steel exhaust which is none standard and is too long for the car which suggest it could be for a Ford Orion or maybe a saph Cars a fake anyway.
Very great job Reg! For your next videos, it could be possible to fix a camera on the pedalbox to film your footwork and to include these shots in full screen please? :)
White is the best colour. The black M Performance decals beneath the doors look excellent on white, obviating that side profile blankness [similarly a light grey M2 yesterday looked rather like a picture frame without a picture]. The wheels: any colour but black -- keep these for winter tyres -- so 436M Ferric Grey. Red leather & a sunroof would have bin nice. The point of the three-door, apart from having more usable doors than the five-door, is instant convertible status at any speed, with the sunroof, because the windows are large. And such a [fully-loaded] M140i is rarer than most Lamborghinis. I've only ever seen one. Tending to complete conversion to gentleman driver, maybe *unlined* leather gloves, no perforations, elastic, straps, studs, just plain thin leather. Chester Jefferies used to do them but went out of business, because people who should have bought from them didn't.
Oh man Reg I was looking forward to this but wtf is that 360 camera haha. You know there is software that will let you just have a single 16:9 angle, it's not the best resolution compared to a dedicated GoPro of course, but it lets you have multiple camera angles from 1 camera
@@amacke4736 The M3 touring felt very confidence inspiring. It handled like an M car should, and the added grip from the X-Drive really helped it in the mid corner and corner exit. The engine is relentless !
EPIC, Reg! Happy birthday, young lad🎉. Geez, that 360 camera was a bit of an acid trip when it came on😂Would love to do this as I've done Brands Hatch and Dunsfold. My list would've been m2🤢, m8 and m4👹 but was very keen to hear your thoughts on the m135i! Cheers pal💯
@@captainsweatpants5229 Thank you! It was for my 30th last year but celebrating then too. Ah man, trust me I wasn’t happy about that dam 360 camera. I was frustrated they wouldn’t just let me get some reliable footage from my go pro. I’m gonna do a follow up video on this! Thanks buddy!
