Thought I would do a quick update on the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 Tyres, that I currently have installed on my M140i.
It's been a while since I last talked about them more in depth, and I felt that now was a good time to give you a long term update.
How do they feel now they have some wear and tear on them, and would I put them on my car again?
I hope you enjoy the video, and I will see you again In the next one!

PS5 on my tuned M140 here, fully agree on the wet and dry grip. Great tyre. Super Sports were literally dangerous 😅

Super sports were fine until you wore them down to 1/32 and then in the wet, they were dangerous.

My new 140 came with PS5 which made me very happy. Long time fan of the pilot sports having used them on a variety of rear drivers since I first experienced PS2 and said goodbye to Pirelli Pzero forever. 😂 The wet grip is so important. I’m uk too and it’s totally worth sacrificing the nth degree of dry grip and even feel for the noticeable improvement in traction. On the Goodyears. My wife used to have those on her Mk4 Supra and they really were special. In the dry.

I may have missed it in the video, but how many miles do you estimate that you will get from the rears? I am running Assymeric 6, and they are a fantastic performing tyre but they are wearing relatively fast even with a sedate driving style. 7500 miles and they are almost on the wear bars (It doesn't help that they had only 6mm when new)
@roadreg1820
@roadreg1820 3 месяца назад
Probs at least 10,000/12,000 depending on driving style. Yeah the starting tread definitely doesn’t help!

@@roadreg1820 I will have to do some sums to see which works out the best value as the Goodyears are considerably cheaper. Performance wise there doesn't seem much to choose.

I have read professional reviews that the PS5 are redesigned PS4 with focus on wear performance making the PS5 wear the best in class but possibly not much improvement on anything else (not that you can improve on much other than maybe the noise levels). The PS3 were good and made it well worth the money for the grip/wear, the PS4 were only just worth getting as the wear was poor but grip excellent, the PS5 are meant to correct that wear issue and should last (they say) for about 30k. But obviously where, what and how you drive will influence that.

I'm new to driving and have a Golf MK8. I've been looking at the PS5 as my new tyre but they only seem to do XL in the 225/45/R17. Will they be good tyres or should I find a tyre that isn't reinforced? Sorry if this is a silly question but it's all new to me. Thanks!

How was the ride quality? Some sidewalls are so stiff it compromises the ride quality on a daily driver.

Very, very good. These don’t have stiff sidewalls. They’re marginally stiffer than the PS4’s but it’s not really noticeable.

Changed from OEM MPSS (5mm+ still left but edges worn and in the cold/damp they were crap, but EPIC in summer!) to PS5. SO disappointing as they're clearly a Touring tyre. So much understeer, no feel and quick wearing rears which I changed to GY AS6. Night and day! Huge wet/cold grip and SO quiet, and sporty feel.

Man do I hate those tires. Got them on my M3 after they were recommended by nearly everyone and they wore out much faster than expected and don't handle that well... I'll be going back to Dunlop Direzza III's soon.

Yes the PS5 is more a comfort oriented tyre and NOT a sport type as the PSS or PS4S Direzza is a pure track tyre PS4S or PSS are somehow between PS5 and Cup2/Direzza

It is exactly what OT mentioned. RWD + PS5 = Best for wet traction. It will give you a lot of security on your GT86. You can push the corner much harder on your wet and dry, with a trade off of precise handling, a bit too comforted steering, grippy with understeer. Most importantly, your rear won't slide as regularly as you might like, especially when driving an 86.

Great tire for everyday you have to go super sports for nearly $600 a tire here for the high performance ones. Dope car too, wished they still made 1ers for North America. I miss my 09 135

I like the F1A6 better cos it's a much quieter tire. The PS5 is very good grip in the wet and dry. It's the best in the wet and dry. Just too noisy for me. Wear rate is a bit better on the PS5 too. F1A6 wears a little more than PS5. Comfort wise they are quite similar surprisingly. But noise is a deal breaker for me

@@roadreg1820 i drive like an 80 year old so no where push the car to its limits. Normal commute is 80km a day with 60km on highway at speeds between 90-120kmph. Once or twice a year, I will drive through the Autobahn and I drive at 180-220kmph. The label said the Michellin Primacy is rated C on Fuel Efficiency, A on Grip and 69db. For me the most important is Grip(Safety) followed by low tyre noise and fuel efficiency is a bonus. What other tyres are out there that does better than the Primacy 3? Thank you for your advice.

Moot tire here in the states, since Michelin does not want U.S. to have them, at all it seems, and even IF and when they do, they will never let us have the 215/40-17 size which is PLENTIFUL over there in the UK, and in Europe. ☹👎
