As one of the leading conductors and pianists of our age Daniel Barenboim is well known for his ability to challenge his listeners into taking an intense interest in music. He is now pursuing this approach for the first time with a number of formats specially developed for RU-vid:

In the case of both "5 Minutes On" and "Deconstructed", Barenboim will explore works and basic musical terms, explaining them at the piano.

In the case of Barenboim Explores, Barenboim will discuss current political, cultural and social events similar to the blogs on his website, sharing his thoughts and ideas with his viewers and encouraging them to join in a dialogue with him, to share their views and to give him their feedback.

This piece is all about nostalgia, a typical "non ti scordar di me" like the mad scenes in the Bel Canto operas.

Please make the videos longer. The 1)playing is soul soothing, the 2)interpretation is uplifting and the 3)background and history deepens the appreciation for the piece, the composer and your rich experience Maestro. We sppreciate this honor greatly. Please keep those three components of the videos going.

The inability to listen to textual conversation all at once is termed "interruption". It is a common technique used by the far right extremists every day in the corporate media. It is extremely successful by shutting down opposing views. This is how Nazism/Brexit/Zionism/Stalinism succeeds. In music, it is enriching to listen to both/all three elements in all ways. Listening to one line by itself, as I do in my own practice and also by listening to all the other musical elements and musical colleagues both together all at once as well as separately and individually AND both not listening/focusing on myself and my contribution but also listening to myself. The more prepared I am in my own part the more automatic and unnecessary it is to listen to myself. This enables me to have the ability and freedom to blend/match/oppose and react/introduce with others inn a meaningful conversation of the whole. We can and may repeat the experience with the same skeleton of the music in different ways with each performance. This is part of the reason that every performance of the same music is different and original. This is strong evidence to support live music ofer recorded music. I always thought that "discussion" meant the interaction of two or more individuals not one person spouting out. The same goes for "conversation". Language is so limited and such a poor representation of thought abd mind. Words and text are not communication but may help to communicate. Online is even more restricted and limited and grossly unsuccessful. Virtually everyone using dating apps fail to understand that and judge each other having never met and knowing Virtually nothing about each other. The West Eastern Divan orchestra is a failure because Israel stands for the oppression of Palestinians through apartheid, racism, colonialism, prejudice, hate, exceptualism, arrogance/hubris, slavery, segregation, separation, walls, genocide, extermination, crimes against humanity and pure homocide murder and killing babies because unless total 100% extermination is not accomplished, the Palestinian, even one single individual left alive not liquidated will be an enemy of Israel forever. Now Israel has created 8 billion enemies. We are ALL Palestinians ow. Whither music? Whither love? Israel refuses to allow entrance for the West Eastern Divan orchestra to enter let alone to give concerts. Israel is toast, finished, done FOREVER and ever. Amen.

So thankful that Maestro Barenboim was able to pass on to us these vital connexions to this distinguished composer/conductor: Boulez seems to have had few personal relationships that led to an understanding of the logic behind his fascinating music. The composer apparently operated in an utterly private world that did not allow room for public explanations of his music. What is the reason behind his choice of notes? Why this discretion when it comes to the nuts and bolts of his musical philosophy? Maybe the maestro's two guests can elaborate more on this. For instance, that moment in the 9th. Symphony's Finale at Bar 330 where Beethoven uses a F Major chord (Gott) is in some ways inexplicable given the D major key but at least we know that there's a subdominant region that includes the F natural so necessary to that chord!

Daniel Barenboim swings round on the piano stool and there at once is that sure touch. Mozart requires both boldness and delicacy. Mr Barenboim lives in that zone of grace and breathes its air like a native.

As some commentators mention Winton Marsalis - who is great: watching Till Brönner here with Barenboim is wonderful. Brönner has been one of the most gifted contributors to Jazz and Jazz trumpet playing over the last decades. He’s is absolutely on par with the great Marsalis :)
