it´s true but it´s also true the fact that it would be stressful been a kind of "youtuber" and try to explain the sense of music to people who hasn't tools to understand or enjoy So, thank you very much maestro for do this to us!!!

Vera Tsybokov does a very useful analysis of this piece which is better from a practical mastery point of view.

Very interesting explanations, really. Perhaps it would have been even more interesting if the Maestro had reminded us that Debussy makes use of the French folk melodies "Nous n'irons plus aux bois" and "Dodo, l'enfant do." Those who know these songs will have recognized them. Otherwise, his interpretation is perfect.

I have the feeling that he didn't even need to review the piece and just remembers it with the most important features for us to learn from. It's as though I invited him to my piano and ask him to play something that I know, and he would respond, "Oh yeah I played it when I was 13 and here it is..." That is such a great musical/internet experience. BTW the piece is based on two simple French kid's song, which I remember as a child.

The Maestro Barenboim comment about Romeo and Juliet and this piece by Debussy was very suggestive - thanks a lot!!!

This way it sounds much more like a an impressionist painting and not like a technical etude. Very, very nice!

I think these 5 minute videos are perfect. A sample, short and concise, delivered in the most modern idiom (You Tube). If you go to any concert or (especially) opera, most of the concert goers are old... a sea of white hair I recall when I saw Parisfal with Nagano years ago in LA. Today's younger people typically listen to pop music, with an average time span of 3-4 mins. So these samplers are perfect. Hopefully it will open someone's ears and light that fire of the love of classical music.

Young people are catching up, don't worry! When I went to see Valentina Lisitsa play live in Buenos Aires, the audience was filled with just as many young people as there were old. And when she started playing Liszt's 2nd Hungarian Rhapsody on the encore, you could just feel the excitement of all the young people in the crowd

These are some of the best videos on youtube. Thank you. Could you make a video on the history of western harmony: from bach to mozart, to Beethoven, Chopin, to the late romantics then on to Debussy, Gershwin, then Schoenberg, Stravinsky all the way up to post-modern composers? I honestly do not know of any books that have treated this subject with any authority which I find very surprising. I would love to hear your wisdom on this subject. many thanks hank

The ending - last 2 measures - in my thinking - indicates - Next to last measure - The sun finally breaks out and the rain ends in the garden. Last measure - the rainbow explodes out in the midst of the sunlight and hones in on the rain-soaked garden.

Daniel Barenboim said that the music was not related to a particular country, but respectfully I disagree since there are quotations of popular French songs. I think that these gardens are in France.

Maestro, in terms of composing do you believe creativity outshines raw talent? Or does the composer have to have a great amount of talent to compose his or her pieces in order for them to be considered "good"? Thank you!
