impressive continuous insertion of super relevant quotes for each claim you made, only so many can edit videos this tight-knit and take the time to put in the bloopers! I never not love RU-vidr bloopers
Your video is amazing and I’m very proud and thankful that you made it❤ I am one of those RAREEE beings that purposely looks for long-ass in-depth movie analysis videos on RU-vid that are an hour long or longer (the longer the better in my opinion). I about crapped my pants in excitement when I saw this thumbnail. I’ve watched other long videos breaking down this exact movie but YOU brought up points that nobody else ever did, and I love that so much! I’m very much invested in what yours and other’s opinions are on movies, so thank you so very much for creating & sharing this video. I know I’m just one voice but I really hope that even one voice is enough to keep you going❤ And good for you for reflecting on yourself and your own videos☺️ I love your voice, your humor, and your bloopers at the end!😂
Thank you VERY much for your encouragement. One of the things that kept ME going, while creating this video, was the fact that I, also, enjoy listening to long movie analysis videos. My next video, about The Incredibles 1, is pushing over 4 hours long, so far. That video still needs another month or two of editing work...
@@aemovieguyreviews that genuinely excites me so much! I cannot WAIT to see it!! Please please please keep going, especially if this is what you’re passionate about :)
I liked the movie when it released and I still like it now. I’d say it’s more or less as good a the first one, but the first one has some deeper themes and more impressive storytelling. Incredibles 2 does capture the same aesthetic, and the Jack Jack stuff I find really funny. In regards to Bob being unprepared for looking after the children, I just imagined it was something he had done but not much. He worked at Insuricare for a long time, meaning the amount of time he spent actually looking after the kids was possibly limited.
Thank you, I enjoyed your explanation a lot. I remember when I watched the movie for the first time and came out of the cinema. I was thrilled to see one of my favorite movies again after so many years, but I couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed. I didn’t know why, but your video really pointed out the things that subconsciously bothered me.
I'm working on a LONG Incredibles 1 video, right now, which was meant to be my final word on The Incredibles series. So, the news of Incredibles 3 was overwhelming and funny. I hope Incredibles 3 turns out great. If the production isn't rushed, I'm optimistic.
{56:06... why do you continue to call her "he" after finding out? and, "he's a woman? biologically?"... you mean her sex, is female, right? because a "biological woman" isn't a thing. oh, and, the joke after, ough. didn't know who that was, but reverse image search tells me she's amy schneider, a trans woman. hm. i'm having trouble reading your intent here, so, genuine question, what are your thoughts on trans people, and gender-nonconforming people such as Brick?}
I agree. The law was wrong ethically. Maybe I should have just stated that directly. When I said The Incredibles were wrong "legally," I meant it as an important distinction, trying to imply that The Incredibles were not wrong ethically, because the law itself was unethical.
1) goodness thank you for this long video I love long videos especially videos that review and criticize cause they are always bangers 2) honestly I wish the kids got like their own main section in a movie where the kids deal with the crime and the parents are trying to find out what’s up and blah boah
I think the biggest issue with the Incredibles 2 has to be how it fails at world building, I mean I know about the whole Supers being banned thing but the goverment's insurance plan for when Super Villains attack makes no sense, They're just gonna let them strike and then cover the damages? What about the Casualties? What about the Injured? I think they could've showed us more of that side of the public that want Supers back, like people who lost family and friends due to these Villain strikes
I never considered the “Evil Helen” idea before but now I’m thinking about how cool it would have been if it was revealed halfway through the movie that all of Helen’s reckless and hypocritical behavior was because of mind control (or if you want to go more nuanced, maybe have it so that Evelyn was doing some kind of subconscious manipulation that drawed out Helen’s most conflicting/hypocritical desires), and then have Helen break free from the mind control so that she can grapple with these conflicting beliefs that have been drawn to the surface
45:26 I agree generally, but showing the Lilo and Stitch one was certainly a choice lol Am I missing something or was it not done to prevent kids from also trying to hide in drying machines
I can agree that the original animation was irresponsible. Though, I'm still conflicted about altering the movie, after the fact. Mostly, if the original version isn't made available, at least as an extra -- with a "warning." Shaggy snorting whipped-cream can fumes shouldn't have ever been included, either. Yet, my preservationist-side doesn't like the idea of erasing these mistakes, completely. In both cases, yes, changing these scenes was a responsible decision for their younger target viewers.
{@@aemovieguyreviews ooh yknow what, i really like the idea of including the unaltered scenes as bonus features! (and if a movie needs enough changing, perhaps include the whole original cut somewhere. just not in an overtly apparent spot in the menus so that kids don't immediately see it, if it's kids' media, cuz you can't as effectively warn against the dangerous stuff that was censored in such a case). both scenes needed changing, _absolutely,_ but not at the cost of erasing the original media :v.
We got Disney plus now there's no excuse for not having adventure with Frozone... I hate spelling out his name & constantly realizing the word Fro is in it. 😩🤮
I can't help but feel that the issues with Helen in this movie wouldn't have been so bad if we didn't live in such a feminism centric society. Pixar knew that focusing this movie on Helen and her being a powerful flawless woman would help this movie sell above and beyond the fact that it's an Incredibles sequel. Something we've been waiting 13 years for. They also tried too hard to make it appealing to young kids, knowing kids wouldn't be able to sit through a movie much longer than they made Incredibles 2 to be. So there were two factors that hindered how much character development Helen got. If they had tried to focus on the story and those 2 issues, they could have easily stretched a better, more compelling version of the story into Incredible's 2 and 3. Sadly, it's all about the money and not the story anymore.
I love the enthusiasm you put in each review especially the incredibles 2 in depth review and this one i can see the difference in editing from first review i can feel the passion you put in each one of your reviews.
Honestly, this whole movie had such chance but it was totally destroyed I wish they could've gone with the very simple potential of 'Evelyn isn't the villain for evil, she's the villain for heroes' She's only being Screenslaver to help give Supers a bigger chance to be seen as worth it She's crafted the Screenslaver persona as a method of giving Supers a villain to work against to prove themselves as worthy of being loved and being supported She obviously fails but she's still regarded as being essential to starting the real legalization of Supers
They took a year off of Incredibles 2's production to give Toy Story 4 more time. And both movie still ended up disastrous. With Toy Story 4, somehow, ending up being the worst movie I have ever seen. Even with the extra time.
That's funny. I only put midroll ads on the video within the last week or two. I spaced them out manually. So, I hope they aren't too bad. Alas, the ad revenue, so far, has just paid for the mic equipment used to make the video. :P
I'm going to confide in it though because I really like what you say. In fact, I think how you describe a different take on the story is exactly what I want to see in my take of Spider-Man. Now the name I came up with. I'm Afraid to say I've been burned before Because people's current perceptions about L.G.B.T superheroes. That being said, I still feel like I should go through with it because. I plan to do what those weren't planning to do have an argument. About one person's decision not to change the world, but to change themselves. And whether that really is right or wrong. I myself am trans and I think the character of Spider-Man really fits that very well because the reason I decided to transition More into my femininity is because I would see terrible things happening to the people I care about. And if you think about all the terrible things that happened to Spider-Man. Imagine what's going on inside of his head. Everyone that he cares about. Has either died or could die at any given time. In ways that go beyond the imagination and not the fact that he has seen those things that go beyond the imagination means that he can now imagine them. How does this not drive him insane? the way I stop myself from Committing suicide because I couldn't take it anymore. But When fooling around with some friends I discovered something in my "bird brain." (Not a feather furry or whatever you would call someone who's a bird. Just describing a simplistic bird-like nature.) I discovered when I tried on women's clothes and make up and jewelry. All those terrible thoughts went away because, like a crow, I was distracted by a shining object. It might be silly, but it works and it keeps me alive. And if there's an infinite version of Spider-Man why couldn't a version adopt the same strategy? Speaking of strategy that's what inspires villains, the very fact that there is at least a superhero Means words are not as powerful as actions. The cops are useless Against someone who can Literally Dodge bullets, With their spider sense which means that any legislation or law Holds no power against a individual like this. So people that think what the main character is doing is wrong Must take initiative into their own hands. Such as a man who thinks that The existence of such an individual super or not is a sin. So they make a deal with an entity capable of giving them the ability to write this wrong. But that entity has a way of taking control of them and Use them too Inflict harm and pain onto what this villain would Think of as innocent people. Showing how the act of igniting such punishment is In itself, a sin. Also I want to shake some things up the Idea of Spider-Man. I don't think it needs to be faithful because this is innocence of variant. If Loki can be a crocodile in one timelime then. Does Spider-Man or spider whatever need to be bitten by a spider? What if synthesized webs through it got into the bloodstream? Now they got super powers. They are no ordinary kid They are Spid- I can't even say that with a straight face. Sorry I couldn't resist. Let's "bastardize" one thing at a time.
33:25 I would say it's Dehumanizing. I say this because there are Inherent lessons in every story. But there's also Unintentional lessons when there's a mistake. What we can learn from this mistake in particular, is How perfection is inherently, flawed and makes a person into some 2 dimensional idea of what a person should be instead of what a person actually is Many times and many industries like this or completely different than this. We'll fire someone because they don't meet the model that we see in Helen. And seeing that model personified shows what is supposed to be expected of us and how that's unreasonable to ask of us Because that model lacks inherently what it means to be human. To be terrible at some things, so you can be great at others. Your mind and body has to brush back-and-forth between different things and perspectives. Gradually over time Otherwise you " Stretch" yourself too thin and you don't catch anything. But if that's the model of how they want us to be and what do we become?
I think a really interesting thing you could do is have her enjoyment become kind of an addiction. And the guilt be some kind of withdrawal. Constantly looking for some bad guy to punch. Until she starts seeing The bad guys, even when It's an innocent Person. Is destroying Her reputation and that of all other Superheroes, much Like a celebrity Succumbing to alcoholism. Feeling like they needed to do their job. Except in this sense, it is their job and In every sense, they are celebrity, but they're not an actor they're a cop. You see where I'm going with this?
I haven't even finished the video yet but-- The mic quality, staying focused, jumping right in with no delay, specific clips shown to support points, jokes included, smooth transitions, thorough research, helpful time stamps, reading and responding to feedback, the sheer amount of editing and time that had to go into this... Are you really a one man team?? Bro deserves 500K subs at LEAST. Great video!
It’s daunting that about 15 minutes in to a three hour essay there’s already something significant (I believe) to discuss. But here goes: 1. You reiterate Helen’s reply to Bob (16:10) and state that Helen “..understood that Bob meant fairness…” and you seem to agree. But that wasn’t what Bob meant at all. He wasn’t defending their actions vis a vie the law. He was responding to Dash’s question, which was about morality, not fairness. He was saying that regardless of the context of their actions, what they did was morally defensible, and even, at least for the adults, possibly morally necessary. 2. Helen did not shut down the dinner debate by, as you say, “…threatening violence” (16:44). By “threatening violence” I have to assume you mean she was threatening to become physically confrontational with Bob…I mean, what else could you have meant? But that’s not what she was doing at all. Let’s put your interpretation into words for a moment: “Bob, unless you stop talking about this right now, I will do something to you that I’ve never done before. I will physically assault you. And I’ll do it in front of our children.” I hope that makes the - to put it mildly - improbability of your interpretation clear. Instead, she was inadvertently demonstrating the extent of her frustration with unintended, momentary physicality. She lost control, in a non-violent way, of her anger. It wasn’t acceptable, obviously, as a form of communication or behavior. But it was hardly threatening violence. 3. LGBTQ acceptance? (45:00) What are talking about? Is it because their costumes are colorful? I’m a gay activist and even I don’t see it. 4. Your observations around how the film addresses technology are insightful and, more to the theme of your thesis, effectively demonstrative, helping to validate your point. But I would add, from point of fact not necessarily in defense of the movie, that attacks on television as being highly corrosive of many aspects of individual development, family life and the civil society were as common in the late 50’s through the 70’s as attacks on cell phones are today. The term “boob tube” encapsulated the idea (that television captures attention and diminishes the intellectual capacity of its viewers) and was omnipresent for decades. TV was the cell phone of its era. 5. Finally finished, and this essay proved well worth the time. So many great ideas on how to improve Incredibles 2…it really made me regret the time pressure the creative team was under. It also makes me wonder about so many other Disney films and tv shows that failed or at a minimum, failed to reach their potential. It’s a long list, and I think many of the problems have a similar origin.
1. I don't disagree with you. So, perhaps I should have phrased things better? I was using "Fairness" as shorthand for "moral fairness." I interpreted Helen's, "Whether it's fair or not." to mean that Helen understood that Bob thought the law was morally unethical, yet Helen still acts dismissive towards Bob's moral concerns. Acting dismissive about morality, in front of the kids, is a big deal for Bob. Rethinking things, I see that "fairness" is about honest impartiality. The concept of "fairness" should/can be moral, but "fairness" isn't a synonym for morality. I can see that mix-up leading to a miscommunication. 2. I can agree that "threatening violence" was inaccurate. My earlier phrasing was better -- "She's slams her hands on the table, violently, to stop the conversation." 3. This was probably a bad inference, on my part. I've come to associate the idea of "identity" with LGBTQ, (the phrase "identity politics") lately. I coupled that, with the fact that these Misfit superheroes have untraditional character designs, that some are more masculine women & others effeminate men, that Voyd's voice actress seemed to be relating her character to LGBTQ in interviews, and the fact that the X-men franchise has made such parallels between superheroes and gay rights, in the past. Based on all that, I jumped to a conclusion. Other commenters have pointed out that the idea of "identity" is more universal than LGBTQ. I used to know that, too. 4. Thank you. I agree that I was very dismissive of TV's ill-effects. I probably should have cut my line: "Just...the TV?!" Though, I do still wish the movie had illustrated TV's negative daily influence, outside of the Screenslaver, to better support Evelyn's motivation. 5. Glad the video improved, after those 1st 15 minutes. Thank you for watching & for your thoughtful feedback.
@@aemovieguyreviews , Thank you - that was clarifying. I just re-read my comment, and I regret that my points of criticism easily overshadow my praise for your essay. The fact is, you’ve produced what is likely the definitive analysis of the weaknesses of Incredibles 2. I don’t agree with all of your points, but you’ve convinced me on most of them. There’s something particularly enriching about finally understanding what had been only vaguely perceived…I’d enjoyed the film when I first saw it, but felt it fell well short of the first. I hadn’t put enough thought in to why, but even if I’d tried, I don’t think I could have dissected and recompiled all the elements necessary to develop an accurate picture of the problem. But you’ve managed to make it admirably clear. The video must have taken a huge amount of time and effort, but the result is absolutely outstanding.
I dont lile the use of the whole "my opinion" defense of your video at the beginning. Either have enough confidence to stand on your arguments or domt make them at all.
Another commenter agreed with you. I had considered cutting out "In my opinion," at one point. Ultimately, the review does often skew away from objective and into my feelings/reactions, and I wanted to emphasize that distinction at the start. Perhaps there was a better way to make that clear upfront? Without coming off as a blanket defense? Disagree with "don't make them at all." I understand that the "my opinion" disclaimer annoyed you, but this video was worth making for many viewers & myself, despite my lack of self-confidence. Thanks for the food-for-thought.
@@aemovieguyreviews Hey thanks for the reply, and you make good points. I enjoyed your video overall and while I still think that the video would have been better by striving to not need to include the disclaimer, I still overall thoroughly enjoyed it and will look for more on your channel. I think if you want to include subjective arguments they should be in their own section. Making the blanket statement 'my opinion' means that the entire video falls under 'subjectivity', and that's just not true as you make very good objective arguments about the movie. The 'don't make them at all' section of my comment should probably not have been included, and I think I was just getting off work and too irritated. Sorry about that. I don't agree with that part of my comment on reflection. Overall great video and looking forward to more. Edit - just want to emphasize that I vehemently dislike Incredibles 2 with all my being, I almost walked out in theaters when Bob was defeated in hand to hand combat with the moleman underminer.
@@boomer.beasley I'm glad that you still enjoyed the video. Thank you for the feedback. I was a bit "triggered" by your comment because my next video is about "pacing." The intro to that video will include the phrase, "my perception of the movie's pacing." I don't mean it as a blanket defense, but your comment has me second-guessing myself. Hence, my "food-for-thought" reply. A portion of the next video will be talking about the different ways viewers might interpret the "pacing" of a movie. And, I want to communicate upfront that I'm going to be fair/objective, but also talk about how I "perceive" it. Hopefully, that's not as annoying as, "in my opinion" -- that phrase is nowhere in the intro. Your comment came at a fun time. Take care.
@@aemovieguyreviews Would like to reiterate that my original comment was much harsher than an ideal communication from my end. I look forward to your next video, and congratulations on the success of this video! p.s. While I appreciate you replying to comments and it's a good practice, I recommend (for your mental sanity) ignoring rando accounts like mine lol
