To be honest just the fact that Sam wasn't in this already put me in a foul mood to watching this film. Now I'm not sure I want to watch it at all. Curiously, one of the biggest critcisms of the original reboot was that Lara had been allowed to progress way to rapidly into action hero status after her first kill, as the player is essentially required to kill at least half a dozen men in her path, if not more, before she can leave the level, rather than forcing Lara to pick her battles, or even giving her the plausible option of sneaking away. Here it seems they didn't just not address this criticism, they flat out exacerbated it by not giving her any time to build into that hero as you described. The film overall just seems like wasted potential.
I just got back from seeing it, drifting off frequently for the first 45 minutes or so, so yeah I agree completely with this review. It's just really bland with no interesting characters. I was hoping Walton Goggins might save the film, but they stupidly made his character a disinterested skeptic. Booooooring.
The cinema was absolutely packed, it was a pretty small screen with people eating smelly nuts near me and lots of rustling preventing me from getting a good kip. People kept coming in up to 10-15 minutes after the film started squeezing past us (for some reason there weren't as many trailers as usual). I just broke my vape after spilling my green tea in my bag while shopping so I couldn't even get baked :(. So yeah, fuck the whole Tomb Raider 2018 film experience.

That was an honest mistake on my part. Her name is Lara in the film. I started calling her Laura at the beginning of the recording, and I only realized my goof halfway through. I started correcting myself a few times, but I was just so used to saying the name "Laura." Google search does say that it is acceptable to pronounce Lara as "Laura," but I still feel stupid. The "Lara vs Laura" blooper at the end of the review is taken from the middle of the recording session, when it dawned on me that I was saying it wrong. Sorry if it bothered you, squattingheads.
