As an avid hiker and outdoors enthusiast, I am fortunate to hike in some of the most incredible national parks and have vast experience and tips for others wishing to visit these parks and hike these trails. In particular, I have a lot of videos from the trails of the West Coast of the USA, namely at Yosemite, Mount Rainier and Joshua Tree.
In 2016 I hiked the JMT (John Muir Trail) in California and in 2017 the High Sierra Trail, whilst I hiked the Wonderland Trail in 2023.
In 2024 I have plans for a backpacking trip in Yosemite and will be hiking the Wonderland Trail in summer 2024.
I 'd really appreciate it if you could like and subscribe to my channel and comment on your hiking experiences.
Hey Rob. Thanks for the video. Was the lodgepole campground full when you were there? It looks fairly deserted (except for you and the bear!!) We are headed there in september which is why I ask. thanks!!
What a gift you were able to have a safe bear encounter! I love that you chit-chat with them, I do that too. I've learned from experts that, when things feel uncomfortable, it's best to get a bit aggressive and yell/bluff chase them. Black bears will almost always run away from aggressors.
How long did it take from start to finish? I did a similar thing once where I camped at sunrise lake then in the morning did clouds rest. such a beautiful and unique hike. few places on earth have that geography
@@RobHikes def still bring spikes just in case, but be prepared for a wonderful time! I was just there in June with my oldest son and had a blast… video in queue!
agree with you I just have a connection with yosemite than i cant explain. i go back every year there is no where in the world i want to travel but yosemite 😅 good thing my family agrees with me
German viewer here; thanks for posting! Will be touring Yosemite mid August. Looks like the rest rooms are very decent there (no vault pits), so my small son will not be overwhelmed by stench…
I’ve been to Half Dome twice and Clouds Rest twice and I have to say I like going to Clouds Rest, incredible views without the crowds. It is like going on the top of a giant dinosaur.
Literally the price for the location. I used to stay outside (oakhurst) and wasted 2hr just driving back and forth from the airbnb to the park so this time I decided to book the tent. Will stay there in the next 2 weeks. Thanks for the review!
I’ve lived in CA since 2020, spent tonnes of time in Yosemite and various other wilderness areas, and I’ve NEVER seen a bear! It’s become a bit of a running joke amongst my friends. I have heard one sniffing around my tent though! I didn’t get out to go say hello :)
It's really luck of the drawer, I didn't see any all summer last year, then two in one day in the fall! I'm heading to Yellowstone later this year and hope too see a good few!
@@RobHikes thank you for your response I just booked a tent and parking can be really though this time a year so I was worried. Do you have any idea what time check in is?? I haven’t received my confirmation email yet.
Yay, Rob, glad you're back!! Thanks for bringing me such gorgeous reminders of Yosemite between my own visits! Question: were you not able to take the JMT down all the way from Nevada Fall? I was disappointed the Ice Cut was closed early April when I was there....sounds like it still is? I always take JMT descending, too. Happy trails and travels to you :-)
Hey! Yes the trail is closed from Clark Point to Nevada Falls still, no sign of when it will reopen yet. Happy Trails to you and thank you for watching :)
Any info on parking your car when staying in these tents? I will be going this summer with our 24' Airstream Interstate van and may need to staff to help locate a longer spot.
I managed to park in the Curry Village lot. They have signs clearly on the way to Curry Village, there is some consutrciton there at the moment but I managed to park no problem.
Just Lovely!! Your channel deserves more. It seems You need help with your RU-vid channel. My advice is to SEO your channel and videos. Otherwise, views and subscribers will not grow organically. 💯🤝
Hi Rob, I've done all these hikes but never all connected. You're a beast! I really love the views on Four-Mile and like your perspective/appreciation of them, too :-)
