Join me for a watery hike to the top of Upper Yosemite Falls during the melt off of the epic Snowpack in Yosemite National Park in May 2023. Have you hiked the trail? Let me know in the comments below! And please like and Subscribe!!
Great job! I’m so lame, I’ve lived in California all of my life and I haven’t even visited Yosemite yet. I’ll visit soon but I’m too old to go on that hike lol. Great footage.!
Yes! I have hiked this trail years ago, and made it to the top with a friend! It was the hardest hike I have ever done. Slippery rocks, sheer drop next to the falls, but wow, what a view, and what a memory! Thanks for bringing it all back.
I did this hike just over 20 years ago, in early summer. Now that I'm a 68 year old grandma and more cautious about things it, I know it's not a hike that I, personally, will be able to do again. So it was wonderful to see so much of the trail and remember being at those spots. The exposed switchbacks near the beginning were the hardest part for me when I did it, just due to lack of shade. Thanks so much for sharing this, I really enjoyed it
68 is not THAT old. There are still plenty of more moderate hikes in Yosemite, and elsewhere, that one can do that are nearly as scenic. You are never too old to enjoy nature!!
Thanks for the video. I just did the math and realized that I did that hike Memorial Day weekend 50 years ago. Great memories. Tough hike but well worth the effort. No way my old body could do it again but dammit I did it then.
Even though it has been 58 years since I did that hike, I still vividly remember it. In all my many adventures since, I still remember how epic this was, and thanks for bringing it all back. Truly a magnificent waterfall in a breathtaking area.
The one time I wanted to do the Yosemite Falls trail it was closed because of rock slides. I've done the Mist and Glacier Point trails but maybe someday.
I'm so glad to see your video. My friends and I are going to Yosemite this weekend and I liked how you shared about the weather conditions and things to look out for on the trail. We have microspikes just in case. Your video helped inform us. We feel ready for the trip!! Thank you for every detail you included including how long the hike takes, the sketchy parts, and the temperature/weather and date at the beginning. With the changing landscape, all of these details are helpful!
I am so glad you filmed this. I have been wanting to go to Yosemite, but didn’t realize it was open again. I’ve not done that hike, but would love to. I’m glad you have done it before so to be able to maneuver the trail properly. Well, mostly. You do a great job with the videography. I enjoyed the camera being facing Half Dome during your passing by. Yosemite is nothing less than spectacular at all times. I especially enjoyed the view from the top. Wow! Amazing and spectacular. Thank you so much for this! I won’t be able to go this year because my cat now has a medical condition that will prohibit me from being gone. 😔 So this was really a blessing. Thanks Rob. You gave me a dream come true vicariously. Stay safe out there. Great job. Alicia
I did that hike back in 1976 when I was in my 20's and in great shape...and it kicked my butt!!...hardest hike I ever did....better do some serious workouts on stairclimber before attempting it. Not sure if the trail has changed after rockslides a few years back..maybe easier...maybe not..
Early spring is the best time for the Upper Falls. Accross the bridge and further up the trail is worth the extra effort. Please Panorama. Great stuff. TY
I have a trip planned to Yosemite next week and have been nervous about trail conditions with all the flooding. Seeing your videos has made me much more excited about hiking opportunities with all this snow melt!!
Awesome 👏 waterfall! We did this hike last year in May and the flow was good, but nothing like this. I believe this is the tallest waterfall in North America. One of the great places in the USA 🇺🇸
I also did this trail a few times in my 50s. and then on to the trail past half dome and then the trail to 120. I long for hiking as challenging as this again
Lovely me and my friends just done half dome trails and cable climb July last years during summer and hard and so beautiful inside. Yosemite is my favorite park in California ❤
Last time I was up there, 10 or so years ago, I was able to swim and lounge in the stream before the falls drop over the edge. That was later in the summer when it was drier.
Thanks for sharing this. I’ve wondered what the conditions are like up there and I’m looking forward to getting up there again. IMO it’s a pretty grueling hike in hot summer weather.
I did that loop in the summer of 1974- the entire thing back down to my car, in one day. I notice those same cheap-ass flimsy railings are still there. There used to be all kinds of signs telling people not to go under or over the railing because you will slip (from the spray) and go over the falls.
I did that hike years ago, in dry weather and I've never seen water like that over the trail! One thing I think that is important when doing this hike is to remember to wear sunscreen and also wear sunglasses. The reflection off the snow can really bother your eyes, especially at the end of the day. Thanks for taking us along!
Did this hike on Friday 7/14/23. It’s a brutal hike that’s for sure. But the view when you get to the top is amazing but the way down was brutal on its own. Never will forget this hike
Great hike! Way more accessible this June. Interesting to see the conditions just a few weeks earlier. Have you been to the ‚oh my gosh‘ point? We missed it. Would love to see it featured in one of you future videos. Keep on hiking! ✌🏻
I appreciate your video. What a professional video. I felt I was walking along with you. When you reach the top of the falls, it brought tears. What an amazing sight. I will never, at my age, be able to hike to see this. You made it possibly for me to experience this magnificent part of Yosemite. Thank you
Hiked the same trail to Yosemite Point back in October - slightly different falls! Just a trickle of water and young folks swimming in the pools just above the falls! Thanks for taking me there again in spectacular conditions!
In August of 1972 I hiked down the Yosemite Falls Trail from Tioga Road. As we looked from the trail over the mouth of the falls, there were people swimming right to the lip of the falls. The water was so low the Falls was barely a trickle. Quite the contrast from this week.
Amazing! Thanks for this video ! I’m sure you won’t have done this less than 5 hours if it wasn’t for the snow and filming . So rewarding being on top of the mountain 🏔️! 🫶🫶
Great video ! You took a lot of efforts in the video shooting. This is the only video I found on youtube that clearly shows the last section of the trail, especially the switchbacks through the rainforest. We hiked the trail this weekend and turned back at that point.
Did this 5/15/23, just a week later, much less snow and many more hikers. 76 yrs old in and in reasonable shape but it still was quite an effort for me. The toughest part was the decent with VERY tired thighs. Advice to my contemporaries, the first portion(40%?) of the hike-climb to Columbia Rock will tell you if you can get to the top, listen. The view of the base of upper falls is just a little farther up and is spectacular. A great alternate final destination.
Thanks for this video! I did this hike in 2000 (when I was alot younger) and wanted to try it again this fall..you gave me the burst of enthusiasm to see those views again!
Fifteen years ago I developed an auto immune disease that made me gain a lot of weight and left me perpetually exhausted. Thankfully I’m working with a new doctor who is helping me to get my energy and strength back, but I doubt I would ever be able to do that hike. Sad because I never got to do it when I was at the height of my health. I am living vicariously through you and your hike. Thank you, thank you!❤
Thank you for giving us a beautiful view of the trail to Yosemite falls I am 63 years old and know that I will never make it there I love Yosemite national park we try to go every few years, thanks again,.
Great video! I've been camping in Yosemite with my parents since I was a young kid (I'm now a septuagenarian😂), but I've never hiked to the top of Yosemite Falls. I think starting from the valley might be too steep for me now, but I'd like to try backpacking from Yosemite Creek trailhead.
