'Un monde sans art serait aveugle à lui-meme.Il serait enfermé entre les bornes de règles simplistes.C'est pourquoi quand ils s'installent, les totalitarismes censurent, interdisent et brulent.Ainsi crèvent-ils le regard de la pensée,du reve,de la mémoire et de l'expression des différences.La terre d'ou naissent les artistes'.
'Autant l'Art est noble, majuscule, simple et beau, autant l'artiste est miniscule, objet de dédain et souvent de rejet'.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, Sir. I always say that it is my dream to be there and be like you and the other artists, even though it seems nearly impossible. It is such a delight to know that we use the same materials at some point, it makes me feel a tad closer to that dream. You and the artists at the square are really amazing. Will continue working hard to honor your greatness.
Absolutely right. A likeness is not enough. Searching for the soul, the psychologic aspect of the person will make a better likeness. And a better portrait. Too many think a likeness is enough.
All portraitists should aspire to capture the facade and the reality behind the facade. But it's not easy. In general, I would say it's easier with elderly people.
Bernard is still very active at the Place du Tertre. He features in my Place du Tertre Review video 2021-2023 Part 1 (47:30) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-08tTEt-Zf_k.htmlsi=dMTmqfVBIilW5adj
Knowing when to stop is important no matter what medium is used. Yes, pastel drawings can get muddy, which is why it's important to be careful when using certain colours. Overuse of black can make a drawing dirty very quickly. But mistakes can easily be corrected with pastel, either by just smudging and redrawing or by using a putty rubber. On the other hand, if you are working in a medium like pen and ink there is little room for error.
Hello Davy! After watching your videos, I would love to have a painting done by Majid (sp?) , Stephane, or Agatha. Do you know what is the best day or time to get a painting done by one of these artists? I am particularly interested in a watercolor painting.
Hi davy how are you? ? .i am your follower. Why did not you upload videos frequently? I am eagerly waiting for your finger strokes. I am from india. But currently working in kuwait. I have been studying sketches and portraits simultaneous period every day. Your portrait was admired to me. I am mesmerized . Now i have comleted one monk portrait. Can send through your mail box? ??
I will learn this style of portait with pastel soon. Every artist is unique in their own way. My favorite was the Twin boy's.. keep them coming my friend
Walking through Place du Tertre 06/23/2024 with a colleague and his wife we happened upon Davy Lim. Had no intention of sitting for a portrait, however Davy Lim seemed a bit intrigued with my mutton chops and Australian hat rustic look. My colleague encouraged me to sit for Mr. Lim, and so I did. While Mr. Lim created my portrait an increasing number of people stopped to watch and photograph as he drew. I saw several thumbs up with several comments, "It looks just like him." and "Very nice.". His finished work was amazing. Although Mr. Lim shows the talents of others in his videos, I can attest that his own artistic talents are exceptionally refined. Thank you for drawing my portrait Mr. Lim, it is now framed and looks wonderful.
Well, that's a surprise! I remember you well mate and I really enjoyed that drawing! We spend a lot of time drawing kids so it's terrific when a model who has some real character agrees to pose. Thanks again and great to hear from you!
Wow. Amazing. Now i have been studying. And concentration about portrait. I am addict to davylim's portrait. What happend davy lim. I did not see him. Is he alive? I am krishna from kuwait. But currently working in kuwait i am a amature artist. And are you from which country??
July and August are peak season periods, but it is a bit early to make reservations. If there is an artist in the video that has impressed you, I would be happy to contact that artist on your behalf.
Superbe reportage.
Thank you for your positive feedback. The Place du Tertre funny man you are referring to is Vladimir. It's great to have him at the square, and he does keep everyone amused, but he is a very talented all round artist and takes his painting/music/videography very seriously. Check the link:ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tQd6o0BrtEE.htmlsi=MX2ZS-VpbH3crCq8
Many artists still prefer grey paper, and it is a style that is still popular with clients. Everyone has their personal preferences and at the end of the day it's the quality of the portrait that counts, not the style.
Wooahhh!!! Glad to see place du terte and the magic of its art. We have been waiting for these videos since 2 years ❤❤ Can i please know the average price of a colour portrait by Agnes
These videos are pure gold for a person (like me) who studied art and drawing. A lot of years ago a visited Montmartre and, well, it's a true joy for me see that is still a wonderful place. Just subscribed. Can't wait for new contents ❤
Thank you for your positive comments. I really enjoy filming and editing these videos. I have to work too, and I've missed some great drawings being created. I will definitely try to upload more content in 2024. Thanks for your subscription .It costs nothing and does help the channel grow.
Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to upload new videos. Your videos have become invaluable lessons for me. It is my dream to be like you and the other Place du Tertre artists. Having the chance to sketch there may be a farfetched dream, but I still keep on practicing, doing my best each time to honor you and the other artists. The no. 47 Conte pencil now has a special meaning. I have the same one in my rig. I also have the same flesh colored Conte pencil, and it is of the same size, too! My colleagues told me to let it rest, but I wanted to keep on using it. Happy to see someone doing the same in your video.
Thank you for your comments. There are so many who would love to draw at Montmartre. Unfortunately, it's not easy to get authorization. But it's not impossible. If I can find time, I will make a video on this subject. To be authorized, you have to declare 'artistic' income tax, have a valid 'carte de sejour' or French nationality/ EU nationality. A video on the materials we use might also be of interest...again, time is the issue. Keep enjoying your art, whatever your preferred materials, and good luck!
Eres grande Davy!.
Sir, your work as well as your channel is a treasure that must be preserved. Thank you for enriching us and thanks to all the portrait artists from la Place du Tertre!
Thank you for your positive feedback. Without the cooperation of the portrait artists of Montmartre, this channel is not possible, so it is above all my colleagues who must be thanked and complimented. Your comments and "likes" and subscriptions are welcome because it does help the channel grow.
These videos are truly golden. I don't know how many times i've watched your videos. You have to keep documenting la Place du Tertre for the ones like me who are not able to see those pieces of art. I genuinely admire your effort. As an upcoming portrait artist, i can fairly say that these videos is kind of a school to me. Thank you and please post more oftenly Davy Lim.
The idea is to inspire and teach, and if these videos help out, then I'm thrilled. I promise to get more videos out this year. It's not really an "effort" as such. Editing footage is actually a lot of fun. Thanks for your comment!
Davy, another extraordinary video! Congratulations! It's incredible how you always manage to capture the atmosphere of Place du Tertre and the talented work of the artists there so well. I've been following your RU-vid channel for a long time, and I must say that each video is a true joy for the soul. I appreciate your work and the way you capture the beauty around you. I wish you much success in your future projects and all the best to you and your family!
Hi Adi, I think you were one of my first subscribers over a decade ago! Thanks for your kind words. I love making these videos and hope to make many more, but I'm getting a bit long in the tooth now, and it takes a bit longer. Very best wishes to you and your family too!
