On this channel, you will discover what it is like moving to Florida and specifically the Florida Gulf Coast. -How to choose the right neighborhood for you. -What it is like to purchase New Construction in Florida - Life in Sarasota and Gulf Coast Beaches.
You could not give me a home in Florida. As much as l love the coast, moving to any part of Florida is not an option for me. The trauma that one experience year after year is not worth it.
Ian - Idalia - Debby - Helene - Milton. 4 hurricanes and 1tropical storm in a little over 2 years. Mabye the town, county, state, or FEMA could offer to buy out damaged properties.
If I was looking to buy in Sarasota right now, I would look at the neighborhoods that were fairly unscathed during these three storms and the houses that held up. Arlington Park for example is where I have a house that sits 6 m above sea level. There are also a lot of really big trees and a lot of landscaping and underbrush between Sarasota Bay and around Arlington park. That helped a lot to mitigate damage from the high winds during Milton and I'm not aware of any significant flooding in that neighborhood. I know my house was unscathed from all three storms. I don't carry flood and raising water Insurance because I am in zone D. I just had a new wind mitigation and 4 point inspection done on my house after milton, and it reduced my insurance significantly, for them to see that my house has held up and is in a good location to be insurable. I'm not trying to brag because I was free and clear from significant house damage. I feel bad for the people who have suffered from these storms. I'm just saying that going forward, certain zip codes, based on how resilient they were from these last three storms, could become more coveted places for people to live going forward.
Good luck Florida, i hope you dont ask for Federal Dollars while continuing to vote for Republicans who dont beleive in climate change and funding the Federal Government.
Overpriced homes made of sticks, hurricanes, flooding, sea levels rising, sink holes, global warming, insurance crisis, De Santis! What could possibly go wrong! Don’t worry Lisa, a fool and their money are soon parted and there is a sucker born every minute. You’ll be back in business in no time!
Sure. I would still like to move to Florida. But..... Home prices will need to come way, way down before I buy in Florida. The prices are too high for such high risk.
Definitely reconsidering living on the coast. Original plan was a gulf access home. Now I'm thinking maybe better to buy a few miles inland and buy dry storage for the boat. Absolutely not giving up on retiring to the gulf coast.
You might want to reconsider that. I'm inland Lee County, so I didn't experience too much damage from Ian, but it's been 2 years of recovery on the coast and then this. You're better off just vacationing
No thank you it’s too hot and too humid and the bugs and the storms with global warming will only get worse and more extreme unfortunately people in the south will see with time I will stay in the northeast
My wife and I are retired and well-off we have rented homes in Fort Meyers and Sarasota in the winter, I have acquired some very nice audio/ movie room equipment, I fully understand THINGS can be replaced. we were considering moving to florida but the past events have made us decided to stay put and continue rent instead of seeing everything on the front lawn... your going to get ripped off by every contractor / retailer for years to come
I was in the area during the last week of August checking out various communities and every friggin day there would be a thunderstorm usually in late afternoon. I thought if I just avoid the Laurel Meadows area I would be okay. Wrong! An entire block or two on Tamiami in Venice was flooded. It flooded so fast it scared the crap out of me. I gave up on the idea of retiring in Florida and now I'm waiting for a new house to be built in Vegas. The home insurance they quoted me is a whopping $509 a year. :)
Wow, that is really amazing. I am sorry Florida did not work out but I completely understand and that makes perfect sense to me as well. Best of luck. Thanks for watching.
After being thru a few hurricanes in the early 2004 over on the east coast Jeannie and Frances both hit within a couple weeks, when we decided to move back to florida we knew that coming to Sarasota we wanted 2nd floor, concrete construction and at least 10 miles away from coast line so I think those sales will be fine but along the coast you have to know ya get what ya get it’s always going to be vulnerable
Hi Lisa, we have not met yet, but I will be an EL neighbor in the new year. The hurricane season is scary stuff, but it appears the location managed pretty well, except for the walkway! Tragic to see the impact to sites that I grew up vacationing year after year (LBK, St. Arm, Siesta....). Sending prayers.
The west Coast of Florida has been decimated and it is a real game changer for real estate anywhere near the water. My home got a little flooding with idalia and then totally trashed by Helene. Im a life long resident and im done period. IMO this is just the beginning as these storms like Milton go from a tropical storm to a cat 5 mega storm in 30 hours! You are dreaming if you think this isnt a major negative for the real estate market. Who in their right mind would buy any ground level home on the water which makes up the majority of the market. And two story homes got trashed too. Just look at the drone videos. People forget??? Really like ian idalia debby milton helene all in 2 years. You're dreaming. As a life long resident in Florida im done! Youll see homeowners insurance for a modest house at 20k.
Wow a Real Estate Agent who is addressing the Hurricane(s) issue. Most PAUSED their channel and keep pushing sales. Thanks for caring and acknowledging the pain folks are suffering.
@@QuangWynn2711 I’m buying … but not off the pain and suffering of those who have lost so much… MOST BROKERS are actively IGNORING the hurricane and don’t mention it at all… one said “ our Internet went out for four days, how odd in the day and age we live in.” Just say we got hit by hurricane and our power was out. Don’t ignore the H word.
Left Sarasota after Ian. Had winter condo inland, but insurance and hoa fees rose disproportionately to main home. Prices higher too such as Whole Foods. Add that infrastructure not there to handle the post COVID growth. Traffic really bad for such a small town. But the great winter weather almost makes it tolerable. Shame the climate is likely to get worse. Good luck Florida.😊
We wanted to retire in Sarasota area to be near grandkids. What scares us about Florida is all the insurance cost , plus houses are still to expensive. Really like you and your videos
Thank you so much for watching. If Sarasota is where you would like to be don't be scared away. We have lots of beautiful communities that are more affordable. I wish you the best.
Had planned on moving to Sarasota. With all the insurance issues and the price of homes and now hurricanes, we aren't considering FL anymore. It's over for us.
I own a small painting business in MN. I recently acquired an LLC for Florida as well. My plan was to stay in the Sarasota area near Siesta Key starting in November. However, not sure how the hurricane will affect business. If there is that much damage and cleanup, not sure of anyone will be looking for interior or exterior painting for a while?
There is always lots of work for contractors in this area who do quality work at reasonable prices. Make sure you get state certification as a contractor if you need it.
Hi, Thanks for reaching out. What has occurred with these hurricanes is horrific, however please note the destruction is NOT as widespread as the media makes it out to be. And most people are re-building and homes inland had very minimal damage. The hardest part is relaying the truth from reality in the area.
I live in the northeast and have experienced several hurricanes . I owned a waterfront restaurant for 38 years. One of the hurricanes hit us hard and was originally forecast to take a different track, but as hurricanes do it turned and hit us hard. I had about five feet of water inside the building. Most all of the equipment was destroyed. Our dock was all torn up,but the next morning we got together and put it all back together. I had been interested in finding a vacation place in your area as we have friends and family living there. That being said we weren’t looking at new construction and worried about the associated insurance costs . We didn’t want to self insure either. So for the time being we might just rent rather than buy. Thanks for doing this video.
Thanks for reaching out. I agree with the decision to rent for a bit before purchasing to make sure it is where you want to be. Also, you mentioned how people come together and put life and homes, business back together. That is exactly what we are seeing. We always come back and better. This area is beautiful.
statistics would suggest the odds are now lower for more storms hitting the area. or, you could say the trend is rising and going in the wrong direction. Hmmm. Sarasota is on my short list of relo locations, or it was. Not sure what to think now. Enjoy you and your videos immensely!
Thanks for watching. Sarasota is a beautiful community. What has happened is devastating and keep mind however that the hardest hit were the beaches and most of Sarasota is back and functioning quite normally already.
Don’t think I would buy anywhere in Florida. Massive storms, insurance companies pulling out or massive premium increases, condos that have little or no contingency funds, out of control HMO’s. The fact is many businesses are considering moving away due to storms. 20% of homeowners have to self insure due to policy cancellation or massive increases. Honestly I suspect parts of Florida will have to be abandoned.
DEI issues are pervasive throughout thiw video and why a huge group of people are leaving. That governor mandates the schools teach Soviet history and cancels the history of diverse populations. Having a state try to erase populations of people is a huge reason to leave. Not sure how you could miss it...never mind....it makes sense, carryon'
In Miami, Traffic has increased exponentially in the past 3 years. It definitely helps to be/ speak Spanish . To get any job, or to communicate with any type of repair person, medical professionals or your cleaning person. Expect books to be removed from school libraries, teachers to be under paid - we are currently 5,000 teachers short because they can’t afford a place to live.
Sorry for the loss of your Dad. We rent every Feb./March in Siesta Key. Glad we don't own with the current state of Florida HO insurance and devastating hurricanes.
