RadioKrafter is a channel primarily focused on simple examples and tutorials of software defined radio (SDR), phased array beamforming, RADAR, and Python. The goal for most of these videos is to demonstrate concepts and provide a "hello world" starting point for these subjects. But it is definitely not the only way, or even the best way, to do these things! Leave a comment with other suggestions or any issues you see. Let's all learn this together!
You can also follow my blog series on these topics here: ez.analog.com/tags/DIYRadio
Jon Kraft is a field applications engineer at Analog Devices. However, the thoughts/opinions/suggestions on this channel are his own, and not necessarily those of Analog Devices.
I'm unfortunatly on the wrong side of the atlantic. Thanks for all your content. - Guess in 5 years this hardware will be in the entry sets, so a good time to learn the Theory now 🥰
Hey Jon, I’ve noticed your python GitHub examples (which are super instructive BTW) run quite a bit slower on my stock phaser board than what appears in your videos. Have you perhaps overclocked your pi 4 a bit? I am running the latest downloaded ADI phaser image and updated software.
No I'm not running the programs on the Rpi. I prefer to run, and edit them, on my desktop computer. So just connect Pluto (via USB) to your desktop computer, and ethernet from computer to Rpi). It will run much better, especially for processing intensive things like CFAR. Also, for technical support on Phaser/Pluto (and much faster replies!), please use this forum: ez.analog.com/adieducation/university-program/
Keep in mind that transmit pulses can come from other sources than your locations as long as you can synchronize ( post detection for passive non transmit organization imaging ) your receivers and know transmitter locations for your math .
Hi Jon, I was wondering if i could ask for your help? I’m trying to build a golf simulator, which requires me to use Radar to track the ball (roughly one inch diameter, with radar sensor ~1m away. I like your setup, but i think its firstly too advanced for what i need, and secondly its more expensive than i would like. Is there a cheaper, still accurate but less complex, system that you could recommend to me? Thanks so much for your help.
BladeRF is a really great SDR, but I don't know how to set it up. If you can ask them for help on how to use with Python/Matlab, then all the other programming should be similar.
The Phasers are hard to keep in stock, but post your question at the link below, and ADI will try to help you find one: ez.analog.com/adieducation/university-program/
Either you are very knowledgeable, used a huge amount of time thinking out the material presented, here or both. This is so well paced and presented making it a pleasure to follow. Thanks for your time and effort.
Cantenna's For the win! i've been experimenting with them to directing and extending wifi signals, InstaSubbed! i like your way of talking and thinking. :) Looking forward for the rest
@jonkraft I'd be curious to know how your detection setup(s) could be integrated with the type of imaging seen over on the "John Lenard Walson" Channel???🤔
Jon this is such a great series! I’ve got a Phaser and this is the perfect way to get familiar with the hardware. I am very much looking forward to the final video. I suspect you are super busy getting ready for the May Hands On Phased Array Workshop. I wish I could attend but cannot.
I work in digital design. Recently, due to project requirements, I had to learn more about embedded systems, specifically SDR. Actually, I feel a bit bored with this field. However, luckily I came across your channel. Keep it up, sir 🔥
very informative video. could you make some videos on Ti IWR1443 mmwave radar basics and signal processings like how we can generate the micro-Doppler signatures?
Can you also implement the same thing with only a pluto with 2tx&2rx as getting a phaser is not feasible for everyone. Also tell me if it can be implemented only with pluto.
Yes, CFAR is just looking at the FFT of the radar returns, so you can do that with just a Pluto. Pretty much everything I'm doing in this video series can be done with just a Pluto. Only at somewhat lower performance, i.e. chirp BW, etc.
this is a nice example of methodologically how to go about solving this sort of engineering problem taking a very rough solution and step by step refining and extending it to meet required performance specs
What the effective detection distance in such radar based on pluto? or like EVAL-CN0566-RPIZ, i'm Ukrainian developer, we looking something like this for make small AWACS like drones for detect iran-drones SHAHED 136
Jon, I'd like to buy a Phaser. I can't find one in stock, and it's been three months since you made this video, so supply is still an issue it seems. That's great that everyone is interested in this stuff, and well done to you. Could you possibly help me out finding one, though?
Hi Paul, sorry about that. We've hit a snag in a production, and have sold out of inventory. But I hope to have more in stock in a month or so. Those that have placed an advance order from Digikey or Mouser have had the best luck in getting their orders filled as soon as product came back in stock.
