The Providence and Worcester railroad also use this yard, I also thought that they owned it and not csx and Amtrak, never knew, even though the Providence and Worcester is setup over there where Amtrak is, I also like the polar bear
The best memories as a childhood were at Rocky Point! My favorite though was hearing them call your families name over the loud speaker then running to eat what seemed like an endless supply of Clam Cakes and both New England and Manhattan Clam chowder!! ❤❤❤❤❤
I would go paddling by that place in a canoe in the late 60s . I worked with a John Peabody on nuke subs. I'll bet hes one of the 9 kids. Full circle. Lol.
You are an excellent documentarian! I love your style and commentary. I am a lifelong Rhodes Islander and never heard of this, although there are a couple of other notable spots. One was a Cold War era Nike missile battery in Foster and the other is at the URI Bay campus where they have a working reactor
Very high levels of cancer in the area especially brain cancers in the area. The area where the incident happened has the lowest background radiation in the area while areas down wind still have unusually high levels of radiation such as alton and ashaway
nature doesn't "have a way iof forgiving and forgetting" nature is, at best, indifferent. it doesn't forgive, and it doesn't forget. it simply doesn't care. nature plays the long game, simply waiting for the chance to reclaim what once belonged to it. if most of humanity were to be wiped off the face of the planet, even the bare concrete and asphalt cities would begin to be reclaimed by nature within a decade.
Growing up, my parents couldn't (wouldn't?) afford Boston Red Sox tickets, so we spent our summer nights here. Such fond memories. Thank you for sharing your memories with us.
The saddest thing is nuclear waste recycling is super important, but it's not focused on because if stuff like this and the fact that it can produce weapons grade refinements, but I think that's better than burying it
I so miss Rock Point! My wife and I had a date there back in the 80's when we was teenagers (we are still married by the way) I also miss Paragon Park (we live in Ma) Awesome Docu brother!!! Sad ending but very well narrated!! Oh white chowda all the way!!!!!
This was a really well done mini doc. Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together. I was only 6 when it shut down but I vividly remember clam cakes and chowder with my parents there and watching my dad ride the corkscrew.
I went every summer and my cousin worked there I went on the free fall like 4 times back and got sick 🤢 great times great times and always girls every where
Jason you said RI isn’t an island but I am sure you know it is…. I live on Rhode Island which is Aquidneck Island in Narragansett Bay….sounds confusing but it isn’t. The rest of what we call RI is actually Providence Plantations, Aquidneck Island was the capital and city and the large land area was farming or plantations…. The real name was changed by our first woman Governor who of course was super woke…….. no there were never any slaves on the plantations, that was just what the English called farms…….. woke ruins everything
Lot of good memories. First time I ever rode a free fall. Got in a fight, saw an awesome ozzy cover band the night was gonna see metallica james the singer got burned and went there instead.one time someone stole my stereo out of my z28. Left the t tops off. Hot summer night.
We could easily rebuild the pier, and generate thriving business revenue from consumers across the northeast who are seeking nautical themed food, gaming, and live entertainment. Instead we have small minded bureaucrats who let this property languish as a disgusting flat and barren park that pleases no one but the tree hugging environmentalists.
I was so bummed when this place closed down. I begged my dad to buy the roller coaster and put it in our backyard. lol We went every year when I was kid right up until closing. Wish it was still there and always wonder what kind of upgrades they would have made over the years if they did survive.
We went every year as kids, nothing like gorging yourself on clam cakes and then going on rides. I remember being to short to go on the free fall one year and the next year my grand father brought blocks of wood to put in my shoes so I could go on it the next year.
